In NORA, the time is Christmas eve, 1878, in Norway. Having been ruled her whole life by either her father or her husband, Nora finally comes to question the foundation of everything she has believed in once her marriage is put to the test. NORA is the celebrated director/writer Ingmar Bergman's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's Norwegian classic play, A Doll's House. A Doll's House caused huge controversy when it was first performed in 1879, and though the story remains an astonishingly significant comment on women's rights, Ibsen insisted that he "must disclaim the honor of having consciously worked for the women's rights movement," his task having been "the description of humanity."
