The Desert Rose Playhouse, the Coachella Valley's live stage company serving the LGBT and gay-friendly community, announces their schedule of productions for the 2013/14 Season. The DRT is located in a wonderfully intimate theatre space at the border of Rancho Mirage and Cathedral City, centrally located for patrons from all parts of the desert. The eclectic season includes two wild comedies, one Gothic Creole Mystery, a World Premiere drama drawn from today's headlines, and a very special Mid-Century Modern musical starring radio talk show personality and vocalist/entertainer Joey English. The production schedule is as follows:

HOUSE OF THE RISING SON by Tom Jacobson

Plays September 27 - October 27, 2013

A sexy and ghostly mystery set in Los Angeles and New Orleans' French Quarter. Anne Rice meets Tennessee Williams in this spooky, romantic, shocking and very witty new play by popular Los Angeles playwright Tom Jacobson. The 2011 Premiere in L.A. was lauded as "a carnival fun 'House' of a play - and a ghostly, entertaining tour." Don't miss the decadent developments!

THE MOST FABULOUS STORY EVER TOLD by Paul Rudnick

Plays November 15 - December 22, 2013

First the Stage Manager calls cues for The Creation, and then it gets complicated... The Garden of Eden has never been so gay! Adam & Steve and Jane & Mabel decide to invent civilization. They travel on Noah's Ark (watch those horny Rhinos!), become enslaved by a Fabulous Pharaoh in Ancient Egypt, and meet up again at The Nativity. Act 2 takes us to contemporary New York City on Christmas Eve and a child is born. Join us for a wildly funny fantasia on biblical themes that takes a good hard look at Love, Faith, Family, and The Meaning of Life.

NITE CLUB CONFIDENTIAL by Dennis Deal

Plays January 10 - February 16, 2014

This intimate Film Noir musical stars Miss Joey English as Kay Goodman, a night club chanteuse who "all through the Eisenhower administration, never once saw daylight". A heady, sophisticated mid-century global adventure that features a smart mix of Vocal Standards and new Jazzy Tunes performed by a five-member company and an onstage trio of swinging musicians. Stars on the Rise and a Diva on the Rocks... with Passion, Lust and Lies... and tight four-hand harmonies.

POSTER BOYS by Dan Clancy

Plays March 21 - April 20, 2014

The World Premiere of a contemporary drama from an internationally acclaimed award-winning playwright. Ned and Will are recruited to serve as plaintiffs and "public faces" for a lawsuit mounted to challenge the legality of California's Proposition 8. The behind-the-scenes pressure of vetting and total disclosure makes them question their existing relationship and their beliefs.

THE HAUNTED HOST by Robert Patrick

Plays May 2 - June 1, 2014

One of the first plays by the most widely produced gay playwright in New York, The Haunted Host pairs Jay Astor, a flamboyant Greenwich Village writer mourning the suicide of his roommate and unrequited lover, Ed; with Frank, a naïve aspiring writer from Iowa a friend has sent over for professional advice and whose uncanny resemblance to the late Ed sends his host into a tizzy. With astoundingly quick wit and wild hallucinatory images, this ground-breaking show celebrates its 50th Anniversary as a cornerstone of our gay literary heritage!

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, with Sunday Matinees at 2 PM.
