Ian Sullivan, Artistic Director of The Long Island Theatre Collective is very excited about their 2016-2017 season: "We are proud to present two world premier pieces from excellent young playwrights and a modern American classic written by one of our countries most prolific voices...they feature distinctly American voices and American stories and are incredibly relevant."

The season will begin with a play inspired by Clement Clarke Moore's' A Visit from St. Nicholas, titled 'Twas the Night. It was written by Michael Paul Smith, who writes the successful web series The Residuals. Mr. Smith gives us a small glimpse into his play: "I found myself thinking about Tom Stoppard's brilliant Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead...While the parents in Moore's poem are not nearly as insignificant as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, I had the idea of really exploring the world of that household that night, and went from there". 'Twas the Night will be presented on Dec. 15 - 18 at The Studio Theatre in Lindenhurst.

LITC will produce David Mamet's American Buffalo in the Spring of 2017. This volatile drama won the 1977 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play and starred Robert Duvall in the original Broadway production. It has seen revivals with Al Pacino and most recently on Broadway with John Leguizamo in 2008. This is a story about a planned robbery of a coin collection, the showpiece of which is a valuable Buffalo Nickel.

Original play Is This America? will close the season. Written by Michael G. Rosenthal, it is based on history set in Meridian, Mississippi in the summer of 1964. It chronicles five days in the lives of civil rights activists during the first stage of the Freedom Summer Movement for African-American voting rights. Is This America? explores the thin line between the dream of liberation for an oppressed people and the terrifying possibility of annihilation prompted by hatred, tradition and inhumanity.

LITC will be holding its annual fundraiser on Dec. 3 at The Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale. Tickets for this fundraiser and all productions are available online through brownpapertickets.com.
