"The funniest production ever to make you cry." Steel Magnolias tells the story of six strong southern women and one heartwarming story – a story of friendship, love, sharing, determination and sacrifice – a story based on a true event in the life of its author, Robert Harling. “Steel Magnolias” introduces us to women who regularly go to Truvy's beauty salon in a small Louisiana town, a cozy place where all ladies who are "anybody" go to have their hair done. These ladies discuss men, love, age, neighbors, children and life, and they learn that sometimes laughter is the only medicine.

Presented by Broadway In The Hood
Since its inception in 2010, Las Vegas-based Broadway In The Hood has produced original theatrical works dealing with social issues as well as acclaimed community productions of Broadway blockbusters like Dreamgirls and The Color Purple. The organization has been featured on numerous TV shows, including TVOne’s R&B Divas LA and a one-hour PBS special, Broadway In The Hood: Open Doors and Dreams, which was nominated for a regional Emmy Award. The Smith Center has partnered with the group to present its upcoming season.
