The Las Vegas Philharmonic's 2016 - 2017 concert season sets the course for discovery and time-honored tradition with sixteen beautifully curated performances by Music Director Donato Cabrera that will showcase the artistry of our orchestra and explore the lush depths of music shared throughout history in addition to significant works premiered today.

"The 2016-17 season continues on the path of discovery set forth when I became Music Director two years ago. The Las Vegas Philharmonic (LVP) will be performing four premieres by prominent American composers next season, which keeps the art-form relevant and Your Symphony Orchestra at the vanguard. I have also programmed music by beloved composers such as Bizet, Haydn, and the waltz king, Johann Strauss, which will be performed for the first time by the LVP. Throughout the 2016-17 season we will be exploring the works of Beethoven and Mozart, not only during our subscription concerts but also during the intimate and popular Spotlight Concerts series. We will also be continuing our survey of the music of Johannes Brahms with a performance, in collaboration with the Las Vegas Master Singers and the choirs of UNLV, of the towering German Requiem. To complement our world class orchestra, we will be featuring exciting soloists from the United States and Europe. Last but certainly not least, we have the iconic Rita Moreno narrating Prokofiev's timeless Peter and the Wolf which will be an honor and treat for our entire community," said Donato Cabrera.

The orchestra will open the new season on Saturday, September 10, 2016 with Cabrera Conducts Mahler, which features a West Coast premiere of American composer Kevin Beavers' Bright Sky, followed by Mozart's exquisite Exsultate, Jubilate featuring the young soprano and alumna of the prestigious San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship, Maria Valdes. The opening night concert will close with Mahler's towering Symphony No. 4. There will be an opening night cocktail party after the performance, ticket purchase separate.

On October 8 and 9, 2016, the Las Vegas Philharmonic will present a Symphonic Spectacular featuring symphonic blockbusters used in American radio, television and film including Rossini's Overture to William Tell, Bizet's Suite No. 1 from Carmen, and more. Cabrera Conducts the Classics on November 5, 2016 with Mozart's first Symphony, composed by young Wolfgang at the age of eight, followed by Haydn's Symphony No. 104, "London" and Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major featuring soloist Tobias Feldmann, who won three prizes at the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition in 2012.

To kick-off the winter season, the Las Vegas Philharmonic presents its annual holiday performances with three concerts on December 3 and 4, 2016. Legendary Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award winning actress, singer and dancer, Rita Moreno lends her vocal talents to the narration of Sergei Prokofiev's timeless classic, Peter and the Wolf and the orchestra performs various excerpts from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, closing with the Philharmonic's traditional audience sing-along.

The New Year begins on January 14, 2017 with an inaugural performance of Michael Torke's Ash, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major featuring award-winning soloist Maria Radutu and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major. We celebrate Donato Cabrera's birthday on February 4, 2017 with Clarice Assad's overture, Nhanderú, a musical portrait of an Amazon basin rain dance ritual, a world premiere by Nathaniel Stookey titled YTTE ( Yield To Total Elation) and Dvo?ák's fantastic Symphony No. 7 in D Minor.

In one of the Philharmonic's most anticipated performances of the season, the orchestra will transport audiences to a galaxy far, far away with Cabrera Conducts the Music of John Williams; Star Wars and Beyond. On March 4 and 5, 2017, the Las Vegas Philharmonic brings the cinematic richness of one's imagination to life with John Williams's iconic film scores including the Suite from Jaws, the Superman March from Superman, Harry's Wondrous World from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Princess Leia's Theme from Star Wars Suite, Battle of the Heroes from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Main Title from Star Wars Suite, Theme from Schindler's List and more.

On April 1st, the Las Vegas Philharmonic presents Brahms's immensely popular German Requiem featuring The Las Vegas Master Singers, UNLV Concert Singers & Chamber Chorale, along with soloists Alisa Jordheim and Will Liverman. Other works in the spring performance include the premiere of Jennifer Bellor's 898 Hildegard and Schumann's Overture, Scherzo and Finale. The orchestra concludes its 2016-17 concert season on May 27, 2017 with Mozart's last opera, Overture to The Magic Flute, Strauss's Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra featuring rising star, Liam Boisset and Bruckner's magisterial Symphony No. 6.
