TIME STANDS STILL Plays Unicorn Theatre, 4/14-4/29

The Unicorn’s next Bold New Play this season explores the extremities of relationships. Donald Margulies’ play TIME STANDS STILL focuses on Sarah, a photo journalist who has just returned home from Iraq after being injured by a roadside bomb, and her boyfriend James, a journalist who is swamped by guilt after leaving her there alone. When the couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life, everything changes in a flash.

Sidonie Garrett directs this piece which features Carla Noack as Sarah Goodwin, David Fritts as her boyfriend James Dodd, Mark Robbins as their editor Richard Ehrlich and Ashlee LaPine as Richard’s younger girlfriend Mandy Bloom.

TIME STANDS STILL previews April 11, 12 and 13, and runs April 14-29, 2012. This will play on the Unicorn’s Mainstage located at 3828 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64111. Performances Tuesday through Thursday are at 7:30 pm, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm. Donald Margulies’ many plays include Brooklyn Boy, Sight Unseen (Produced by Unicorn Theatre in 1994) and Collected Stories. He received the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Dinner with Friends which was later made into an Emmy Award-nominated film for HBO, and Collected Stories was presented on PBS. Currently, he is adapting the novel Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides into an HBO series. Mr. Margulies has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, The New York Foundation for the Arts, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He was the recipient of the 2000 Sidney Kingsley Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Theatre by a playwright. In 2005 he was honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters with an Award in Literature and by the National Foundation for Jewish Culture with its Award in Literary Arts. Mr. Margulies is an alumnus of New Dramatists and serves on the council of The Dramatists Guild of America. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1954, Mr. Margulies now lives with his wife, Lynn Street, a physician, and their son, Miles, in New Haven, Connecticut, where he is an adjunct professor of English and Theatre Studies at Yale University.

Director Sidonie Garrett most recent directing credits at the Unicorn include In The Next Room or the vibrator play, Iron Kisses and The Retreat from Moscow. She is also the Producing Artistic Director of Heart of America Shakespeare Festival.

The cast includes Carla Noack as Sarah Goodwin (Unicorn Theatre Debut), David Fritts as James Dodd (Recently at Unicorn: The Seafarer, Nickel & Dimed and The Memory of Water), Mark Robbins as Richard Ehrlich (Recently at Unicorn: Next Fall, Faith Healer and The Retreat from Moscow) and Ashlee LaPine as Mandy Bloom (Unicorn Theatre Debut).

The creative team includes Scenic Design by Jason Coale (Previously at Unicorn: The Clean House and The Velvet Rut), Lighting Design by Alex Perry (Recently at Unicorn: Hungry, Next Fall, Red, and Two Jews Walk Into a War), Sound Design by Richard L. Sprecker (Recently at Unicorn: Projections design for Hungry, The Salvation of Iggy Scrooge and Distracted), Costume Design by Jon Fulton Adams (Recently at Unicorn: Hungry, Red and Two Jews Walk Into A War), Properties Design by Gary Campbell (Recently at the Unicorn: Next Fall, Hungry, Red and Two Jews Walk Into A War), Dramaturgy by Vanessa Campagna (Previously at Unicorn: In The Next Room or the vibrator play) and is Stage Managed by Jinni Pike (Recently for Unicorn: Next Fall, The Salvation of Iggy Scrooge, Red and Ruined).
