Act One
4/10-4/12/2014
Based on the original Folklore, Robin Hood: The Musical tells the story of how Robin first formed the Merry Men as a private army against the Sherriff of Nottingham. Upon his return to Nottingham, Robin is caught up in a feud with the Sheriff after stepping in to protect a child from an angered guard. Robin escapes the Sherriff by fleeing to Sherwood Forest only to be apprehended by an ensemble of bandits. These bandits will be Robin's only hope of protecting Nottingham from the corrupt Sherriff. The only problem is… he's their prisoner. Perhaps Robin will be able to find help from the mysterious yet beautiful young woman who works within the castle, or the kind Friar Tuck who lives in town. Robin Hood: The Musical is a fast-pace, high-energy production filled with numerous laughs and an adventure that will keep the entire family entertained. Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

More than 45 years after Leonard Bernstein chose him to make his debut with the New York Philharmonic, Andre Watts remains one of today's most celebrated and beloved superstars. The Kansas City Symphony is excited to welcome him to the Helzberg Hall stage and join him as he performs the last piano concerto Beethoven himself was able to play. More music from the opera world opens this concert with the overture to Haydn's comic opera, L'incontro improviso. It was Beethoven's mastery that inspired Franck to write his only symphony, which is full of rich orchestral textures and brass highpoints. The joyous, upbeat conclusion of this work is a perfect way to end this early spring program. Bravo & Masterworks Series
