Nancy Opel Leads FEARLESS VOICE Master Class with KC's Barn Players Today
A MASTER CLASS with Nancy Opel, Tony-nominated Broadway actress and a Kansas City native, titled "FEARLESS VOICE" will be hosted by Kansas City's Barn Players today, May 22nd beginning at 2 o'clock at the Barn Players Theatre, 6219 Martway in Mission. Cost is $100 for participant (limited to 15), or $25 to audit.
Ms Opel will do a nearly three-hour session starting with her "Sure fire 10 minute singing warm- up" that helps manage nerves and improves breathing and hone intonation. She'll give the little acting and singing secrets she has learned from 35-years in show business and will also work with each participant addressing individual needs.
Her MASTER CLASS presentation will be full of information, fun, singing, vocal and acting techniques and is limited to 15 participants - those auditing the Master Class can learn by simply watching and enjoying the program.
Nancy grew up in Prairie Village and Leawood, is a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School and a graduate of the University of Kansas; she trained in voice at Juilliard.
And, it all started in at age 16 in the high school production of The Boy Friend followed by roles in a local theatres and on to Broadway. She was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her memorable performance as "Penelope Pennywise" in the Broadway production of Urinetown.
Recently Nancy starred as Dolly in Hello Dolly at the Ford Theatre in Washington DC --- "Nancy Opel gives a virtuoso performance and is the living, breathing heart of the production" and "Nancy never fails to please as a performer". She has appeared in Evita, Anything Goes, Gypsy, Fiddler on the Roof, The Drowsy Chaperone, Words, Words, Words and other Broadway stage productions as well as on TV in several Law and Order episodes, all to rave reviews. She currently resides in Manhattan with her daughter.
