The School of Theatre at Florida State University has announced its 2015-2016 season. Internationally renowned School of Theatre faculty will team up with the talented students and community members of Tallahassee, FSU alumni, and visiting artists from around the country to present a season that will inspire and entertain audiences throughout the southeast. Through the development and presentation of challenging classic and contemporary work, the School of Theatre at Florida State University continually uses the evolving, live, collaborative art of theatre to develop artists and scholars who have a lifelong passion for the arts.

The season will open with Some Girl(s) by Neil LaBute, running October 2-11 in the Lab Theatre. Directed by MFA Directing Candidate Carrie Colton, Some Girl(s) follows Guy as he travels the country looking up old girlfriends in an attempt to make amends for past heartbreak before he gets married. As his self-ambition is revealed, LaBute invites us to consider what we are willing to do not only for love, but to it in the pursuit of self-fulfillment.

The School of Theatre then brings the beloved classic A Chorus Line to the stage of the Fallon Theatre in October, running the 16-25. This nine-time Tony Award-winning show delves into the dreams and fears of the characters, revealing what they have done and would do for love. A Chorus Line features a stunning book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, with music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban. Under the direction of MFA Directing Candidate Jenna Tamisiea, A Chorus Line is sure to delight audiences young and old.

Next, Twelfth Night, directed by Michael Hayden, brings the immortal words of Shakespeare to life October 30-November 8 in the Lab Theatre. This light-hearted romantic comedy, complete with mistaken identities, misplaced love, and a comedic rivalry, will carry the audience, laughing and sighing, toward their happily-ever-after.

As its annual Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production, the School of Theatre will present The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi, adapted from the beloved tale by Rudyard Kipling by Susan Carle. This delightful take follows a rag-tag group of animal friends in an exotic garden as they discover that they are smarter, braver, and more resourceful together and that the garden is more fun when shared with friends. The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi also features a "Plays on School Days" program in which special performances are presented to local elementary schools and a fundraiser for select Leon County Schools. The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi is running November 19-22 in the Fallon Theatre.

The spring will begin with the upbeat and wildly popular Legally Blonde the Musical. Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the hit Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture, Legally Blonde the Musical, features an upbeat book by Heather Hach, with music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin that are sure to "bend and snap" their way into the hearts of many. Follow sorority sister Elle Woods as she pursues the love of her life all the way to Harvard Law School, where she must use her brains and beauty to defend famous fitness instructor Brooke Wyndham, who has been accused of murder. Legally Blonde the Musical is bringing pink, and lots of it, to the stage of the Fallon Theatre February 12-28 under the direction of Tom Ossowski.

The season will close with Henrik Ibsen's infamous Hedda Gabler, directed by Fred Chappell. One of the world's most famous literary heroines, aristocrat Hedda pushes the boundaries of what she can convince others to do in the name of love, and shows the world that love, in the wrong hands, can result in greatness and in catastrophe. Hedda Gabler is playing in the Lab Theatre March 25-April 3.
