On June 29, Theatre Jacksonville presents a staged reading of Steel Magnolias as its annual fundraiser bringing together local performers and veteran Broadway actresses for two performances only.

The Cast includes Tony award winner Donna McKechnie (A Chorus Line), Tony award nominee Pamela Myers (Company), Tony award nominee Sally Mayes (She Loves Me), Jacksonville native and previous Theatre Jacksonville performer Emily Swallow (TNT's Monday Mornings, B'way's High Fidelity), acclaimed local actress Amy Canning and Theatre Jacksonville's Artistic Director Sarah Boone. Jacksonville funny man Lee Hamby will be reading stage directions. The production is directed by Jean Tait.

This funny and deeply moving play celebrates the bonds of friendship and sisterhood in a small town Louisiana beauty salon where six witty Southern women gossip, banter, laugh and ultimately turn to each other for comfort when tragedy strikes. It's a story of southern strength surrounding characters making it through life with humor, warmth and celebration.

In addition to benefiting Theatre Jacksonville, the special event is to honor J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver for their generous support of the organization. Most recently, the Weavers made possible a major renovation of the theatre's restrooms and the replacement of the main air conditioning system servicing the auditorium and lobby areas.

Steel Magnolias is at Theatre Jacksonville on June 29 only, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now. General Admission Tickets: $35 for either performance. Special $55 VIP tickets are also available for the 8pm performance only: includes post show meet and greet party with the cast on the main stage with food and beverages from Anthony's Gourmet Catering; Tickets are available by calling 904-396-4425 or online at www.theatrejax.com.

Theatre Jacksonville, currently in its 93rd year, has the distinction of being the oldest continuously running community theatre in Florida. Proceeds from this event will go to support the theatre's mission of enriching lives and broadening cultural understanding through community participation in theatre arts.
