Herzliya Municipal Theatre Presents: The 8th Hanukkah Plays Festival

Uri Orbach's "Dream Fixer", "Chicha" a magical African rhythm tale, Hanoch Reim's "A Little Man and a Dragon", "The Story of the Little Mole (Who Went In Search Of Whodunit)" and a grand production inspired by the musical "Grease" performed by teenagers, all these will be at the Herzliya Municipal Theatre's 8th Children and Youth Theatre Festival this upcoming Hanukkah. The plays will run a number of times per day during December 27 - 29. The festival will also include plays for younger children and a free entrance happening event at the theatre's area.

The Herzliya Municipal Theatre is a professional theatre that creates plays for children and youth, and which its plays are known for their quality and are approved by the National Cultural Education Program. There is an extracurricular activity center at the theatre that holds performing arts classes for children, youth and adults, and the youth group "On the Stage" which is Herzliya's representative theatre group from which many of its alumni are starring today at the theatre and on television shows.

Grease Time - A musical inspired by "Grease" and performed by the representative youth group "On the Stage"

A musical for the whole family with wonderful costumes, a sweeping choreography and all the loved hits inspired by the known musical.

Based on the 1971 American musical "Grease" by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The musical became a huge success, held the record of the musical with the longest Broadway run of that time, and in 1978 was also made into a film under the same name.

The musical is set in 1959 at Rydell High School and follows working-class teenagers as they discover the complexity of love and deal with issues such as criminal behavior, teenage rebellion, sexual exploration during adolescence and being popular. The musical refers to the Greaser youth gang from the 50s which were called that way because of their greased-back hairstyle, and is based on Jim Jacobs' school, William Howard Taft School in Chicago. Warren Casey collaborated with Jacobs in writing the music and lyrics as they attempted to recreate the early sounds of rock and roll.

Dream Fixer - based on the book by the late Uri Orbach

In a small village between mountains and hills lives Alex, the dream fixer. One day someone new arrives at the village, a dream fixer who offers an advanced and computerized service as he brings with him a state of the art dream fixing machine. What happens then to Alex and his acquaintances from the village- is all that glitters really gold?

A musical about what is truly important in the relationships between people.

A Little Man and a Dragon

A little man is wearing the red hat his mother knit him and heads out on his way to the king's castle to find out who is crying at the end of his story. On his way he meets the people of the castle: a guard, a wizard, a cook and the king. With each one of them he switches hats and changes roles and every time he does so he faces the giant dragon that is trying to swallow half the kingdom, and he always wins.

The story of this journey tells about the pour of innocence, of self searching and finding and of how to face the greatest fears with courage and with a smile.

Chicha - A Rhythm Tale

A story about a magical African rhythm tale that leaves no foot indifferent. A musical play from the heart of Africa. Every sound, every chore, everything - is rhythm. The drums tell about the incredible story of Chicha, a girl who knew how to dance before she learned how to walk. Marvelous wild animals, mysterious musical instruments and sweeping dances.
Live music is played on stage by African musicians.

This play participated in the 2016 Haifa Festival and won the Best Actress award.

The Story of the Little Mole - A guest musical play in the festival

A new and original children's play inspired by the famous children's story "The Story of the Little Mole Who Went In Search Of Whodunit" which was originally written in German and translated to many different languages around the world. The play is special for both children and adults and talks about one of the subjects that children are most curious about and does it in a funny and gentle way along with combining witty dialogues and slapstick segments, song and movement.

A little mole peeps one morning from his hole just as someone does their business on his head. The little mole sets out on a journey to find out who is responsible for this act and runs into many animal suspects on his way. Each animal he meets teaches the mole a little more about the big world that exists out there.
