The Beezneez Theater Company is set to return to the Roscommon Arts Centre with an old Irish comedy, JOHNNIE'S BRITCHES, tonight, July 24.

Set in the Rennan farmhouse where, anxious to be rid of their accident prone servant girl, Ned and Bridget are willing to allow her to be married to almost anybody, including Johnnie (britches notwithstanding). However an unexpected letter from America throws all plans into confusion and it is left to Johnnie himself to untangle the web of conundrums that ensue.

Described by Artistic Director, John McDwyer as being as old as himself, JOHNNIE'S BRITCHES is a lovely old Irish comedy which the company has discovered in the rehearsal process to be full of laughs and seems set to be another massive summer hit for the company.

Written by Athlone teacher, PG O’Dea, JOHNNIE'S BRITCHES was a runaway, nationwide hit when first produced in the 1940's and Beezneez bring their distinctive production values to this gentle comedy of another time. Johnnie’s Britches was a national hit in the 50’s and 60’s and there were very few parishes which didn’t witness a production of the comedy. It was brought to the attention of Beezneez by the late author’s daughter and was quickly identified as a play with the same qualities as A Wake in the West which was an enormous Beezneez hit. The company also wanted to take the opportunity to bring audiences back to the roots of Irish drama and this production will certainly live up to the high standards which Beezneez sets for summer comedy.

Directed by John McDwyer, JOHNNIE'S BRITCHES features regulars such as Gerry Farrell (A Wake in the West, Love Is..) and Valerie Traynor (Don’t Dress for Dinner)and with Peter Davey (The Weir) making a welcome return to Beezneez, the company are looking forward to a terrific summer of laughter.
