David W. Fox, Jr. Named New Goodman Theatre Chairman

Goodman Theatre's Board of Trustees announces David W. Fox, Jr. as its new Chairman.

Fox, who has served on the Goodman Board since 2012-most recently holding offices of Chair Elect, Vice President and Treasurer-follows immediate past Chair Joan E. Clifford. Fox is President of the Global Family & Private Investment Offices Group, and a member of the Operating Group of The Northern Trust Company.

"I am both excited and truly honored to take on this leadership role within the Goodman Theatre Board of Trustees. Fox, Jr. "The collaboration and partnership across artists and educators evidences its commitment to improving life in the Chicago community through the art form. Fox joined Northern Trust in 2012 after 25+ years at J.P. Morgan in New York, London and Chicago, where he was Vice Chairman of Investment Banking, a member of the firm's Investment Banking Management Committee He holds a B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University and has an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business. In addition to his work with the Goodman, Fox's previous board positions include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Field Museum of Chicago, Ann & Robert Lurie Children's Hospital, YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, the Executive's Club of Chicago and the Latin School of Chicago. He is a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago. Fox and his wife, Alexandra, have three children, and live in the city.

Hesse; Assistant Treasurer, Douglas Brown and Secretary, Kathleen Keagan Cowie. Previous Chairs of Goodman Theatre include Stanley M. Freehling, Irving J. Markin, Allen M. Turner, David Ofner, James E. Annable, Sondra A. Healy, Deborah A. Bricker, Carol Prins, Lester N. Coney, Shawn M. Donnelley, Patricia Cox, Ruth Ann M. Gillis and Joan E. Clifford.

In addition to announcing Fox's chairmanship, Goodman Theatre announces four new Trustees:

Laurie V. Bay is a champion of the Goodman's Education and Engagement programs, which have expanded with the addition of the Alice Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement. She and her husband, James, are passionate supporters of the arts and health care organizations. She is currently active with cultural and hospital boards in Chicago, and has served as President of five Women's Boards and founding President of one. Bay received her BS from the University of Cincinnati and resides in Chicago.

Allison Cirullo is General Manager of Edelman's Brand Practice, with more than 15 years of experience in marketing and communications. She is responsible for helping clients-from consumer packaged goods to retail to commodities-build their brands and engage with consumers in a meaningful way that drives business objectives. In almost 10 years at Edelman, Cirullo has led or contributed to the strategic direction of many of the office's key accounts. She has a BA in Economics from the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, and earned her MBA and Masters in Integrated Marketing Communications from Loyola University Chicago. She is currently on the Auxiliary Board for Chicago's Midtown Educational Foundation, and resides in Elmhurst, IL with her husband Mike and two children.

Eric Smith is market president of Fifth Third Bank (Chicago), responsible for the growth and strategic alignment of our commercial, wealth and asset management and consumer businesses. Smith joined Fifth Third in October 2016 from JPMorgan Chase, where he most recently served as chief financial officer of Middle Market Banking. His longtime commitment to the Chicagoland not-for-profit and civic community is reflected through his board service and volunteerism; he currently serves on the board for the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Urban League. He and his wife, Kimberly Taylor-Smith, co-chaired the 2015 Children's Research Fund Campaign and Children's Ball for the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, where they both serve as Board members. Smith is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the Executives' Club of Chicago. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Howard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He and his wife have two daughters and reside in Evanston, IL.

Mason Smoot is McDonald's Senior Vice President, Strategic Alignment and Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team. He also oversees the area of Global Inclusion and Community Engagement. Smoot's previous role was Vice President - U. S. Human Resources where he oversaw the areas of Strategy and Measurement, Talent Management, Benefits and Compensation, and Home Office HR services. A 20-year McDonald's veteran, Smoot was the Vice President and General Manager of the McDonald's New York Metro Region for six years, where he was responsible for leading more than 620 restaurants, owned and operated by more than 140 franchisees in one of the world's most dynamic global markets. He and his wife, Toni, reside in Lake Forest.

Goodman Theatre is a premier not-for-profit organization distinguished by the excellence and scope of its artistic programming and civic engagement. Led by Artistic Director Robert Falls and Executive Director Roche Schulfer, the theater's artistic priorities include new play development (more than 150 world or American premieres in the past three decades), large scale musical theater works and reimagined classics (celebrated revivals include Falls' productions of Death of a Salesman and The Iceman Cometh). Goodman Theatre artists and productions have earned two Pulitzer Prizes, 22 Tony Awards, over 160 Jeff Awards and many more accolades. In addition, the Goodman is the first theater in the world to produce all 10 plays in August Wilson's "American Century Cycle" and its annual holiday tradition A Christmas Carol, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this season, has created a new generation of theatergoers. The Goodman also frequently serves as a production partner with local off-Loop theaters and national and international companies by providing financial support or physical space for a variety of artistic endeavors.

Committed to three core values of Quality, Diversity and Community, the Goodman proactively makes inclusion the fabric of the institution and develops education and community engagement programs that support arts as education. This practice uses the process of artistic creation to inspire and empower youth, lifelong learners and audiences to find and/or enhance their voices, stories and abilities. The Goodman's Alice Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement is the home of such programming, most offered free of charge, and has vastly expanded the theater's ability to touch the lives of Chicagoland citizens (with 85% of youth participants coming from underserved communities) since its 2016 opening.

Goodman Theatre was founded by William O. Goodman and his family in honor of their son Kenneth, an important figure in Chicago's cultural renaissance in the early 1900s. The Goodman family's legacy lives on through the continued work and dedication of Kenneth's family, including Albert Ivar Goodman, who with his late mother, Edith-Marie Appleton, contributed the necessary funds for the creation of the new Goodman center in 2000.

Today, Goodman Theatre leadership also includes the distinguished members of the Artistic Collective: Brian Dennehy, Rebecca Gilman, Henry Godinez, Dael Orlandersmith, Steve Scott, Chuck Smith, ReGina Taylor, Henry Wishcamper and Mary Zimmerman.
