Join South Bend Civic Theatre for the humorous and poignant Jar the Floor; a contemporary play by Cheryl L. West, set in suburban Illinois where four generations of African-American women gather for the matriarch's 90th birthday. Feelings boil to the surface and frustrations, recriminations, and thwarted dreams are recounted.

Co-directors Kevin Dreyer and Consuela Howell lead Nora Batteast, Laverne McMutuary, Eula Milon, Kelly Morgan, and Nicole Brinkmann Reeves in a play about the battles between generations, mothers and daughters, black and white and the ties that bind family together in despite of it all.

In the words of the Los Angeles Times, Jar the Floor "explores the legacy of guilt and hostility that is passed from even the mosT Loving mother to a daughter, and at the same time it shows that particular intimacy to be innately funny and wonderful." Called by the New York Daily News, "Smart, hilarious, poignant and meaningful. The dialogue functions like a rollercoaster ride that will have you careening from laughter to tears."

Performances for Jar the Floor will be October 7-16 in the Warner Studio Theatre, 403 N. Main Street in South Bend. Show times are 8:00 PM Friday and Saturday, 3:00 PM Sunday, and 7:30 Wednesday and Thursday. Ticket prices are $17.00 Friday, Saturday and Sunday, $14.00 Wednesday and Thursday.
