Ram Gopal Bajaj, Naresh Kapuria and Viraf Pocha Awarded Theatre Honors by the Chaman Lal Memorial Society

Three eminent personalities from the world of theatre were honoured at an evening hosted by Chaman Lal Memorial Society.

Prof Ram Gopal Bajaj was awarded the honour for Overall Contribution in Theatre World, while Naresh Kapuria (Delhi) bagged the award for Excellence in Stage Craft (Scenic design) and Viraf Pocha (Mumbai) walked home with the award for Excellence in Stage Light Design.

The event was held on late Saturday evening at Kamani auditorium here and was was followed by a 40-minute multi-media light, sound and dance choreography directed by RK Dhingra.

Ashwani Lohani (CMD - Air India) was the guest of honour for the evening while Shekhar Sen (Chairman - Sangeet Natak Akademi) was the Chief Guest.

The Chaman Lal Memorial Society was established in 1995 to acknowledge and honour people who have with their different back stage expertise created magical moments on stage for some of the most spectacular presentations of dance, drama and music, among others.

"The society is committed to keep his memory alive by conferring awards to artists who have through their outstanding skills contributed to the theatre world," the organisers said in a statement.

These awards are conferred every year in the memory of Late Chaman Lal, who was a pioneer in the field of inventing stage lighting equipments.
