On Oct 11, NCPA Celebrates 80 Years of Marathi Bhavgeet & Shukratara at the Tata Theatre at 6:30pm. The Singers are Arun Date, Suresh Wadkar, Anuradha Marathe, Dhanajay Mhaskar &Saee Tembhekar. Dhanashri Lele is the Compere and the concept and coordination are by Atul Date.

Indian music finds expression through various categories of popular music, some of which enjoy mass appeal. These include the works available in the regional languages. This thematic presentation has been designed to showcase the gems of poetry and music available in Marathi. The term bhav relates to emotion, and aptly, the genre of bhavgeet refers to songs depicting myriad shades of emotions, brought forth through an aesthetic blend of poetry, melody and rhythm. The event celebrates the momentous journey of over 80 years in the genre of bhavgeet, and the golden jubilee of the evergreen song 'Shukratara'. Veteran singers Arun Date, Suresh Wadkar and others will present a variety of songs including the title song and bhavgeetsthat have ruled the hearts of music-loving audiences. Listeners will be taken on a journey starting with the period during which legendary singers and composers like G. N. Joshi laid the foundation of this genre, and made it popular through media like HMV's gramophone records, to the present day.
