Theatre Suburbia to Premiere 'THE MAN IN THE LOCKET' This Summer

Theatre Suburbia is pulling out all the stops for the World Premiere production of Kris Thompson's early 1900's comedy/melodrama, The Man in the Locket: Truths and Lies at the Bergstrom Circus & Menagerie, winner of its national annual scriptwriting contest.

A deviation from the standard western melodramas, this charming circus story will be directed by Elvin Moriarty, Theatre Suburbia's Artistic Director, and Judy Reeves.

Theatre Suburbia is thrilled to wrap up its 56th season with this colorfully unique and clever story, sure to please audiences of all ages.

Kris Gauger Thompson is the author of The Man in the Locket: Truths and Lies at the Bergstrom Circus & Menagerie, the 2017 winner of Theatre Suburbia's national annual scriptwriting contest. She is the first two-time-winner of this competition, her first winning script, Bad Medicine or Good to the Last Drop, having premiered at Theatre Suburbia in 2014 and later being produced at McKinney Repertory Theatre in 2016. Some of her other plays include Oh Doctor! I'm Pregnant!, Figment with a Capital F, Kitchen Conversations, Passionate Kisses, The Adventures of Gay Man, The Bedroom, You Can Dance if you Want to, and Trick or Treat, Seriously. She's enjoyed production by various theatre groups including Theatre Suburbia, McKinney Repertory Theatre, Theatre of Owensboro, Cone Man Running, Vox Feminina, Scriptwriters/Houston, Not Toronto Players, and Boiling Point Players. She is currently working on a more sobering subject in her new play, Suicide Table. It's summertime, early 1900s and, off the east coast, the young daughter of a wealthy tycoon escapes her conniving guardians and prospective husband in search of the past and the father she can no longer remember. She has only one found clue: a locket with two photos. But her guardians are in league with the villainous would-be-groom and the three have dark purpose. Drawn to the Bergstrom Circus, she begins her quest, joins the circus and finds love. But will she find her father? Will she escape her villainous fiancé? Will true love prevail?

Theatre Suburbia is Northwest Houston's longest running all volunteer playhouse, currently celebrating our 56th season. They have produced nearly 390 shows. They endeavor to provide quality, live theatre to the Houston area, trying to reach as many as possible by providing a wide variety of plays, unique sets, and reasonably priced tickets. The theatre is intimate, seating 100 in a semi "in the round" stage. Every seat is a good one in this charming theatre.

Theatre Suburbia brings seven plays to life on their stage each year, remaining dark for only two weekends between productions. They have produced a variety of works including classics, heavy dramas, dark comedies, light comedies, mysteries, original scripts, children's shows, and the ever-popular summer melodrama.
