The Houston Symphony will launch its highly-anticipated Classical season with a performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 5 and the world premiere of Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano's orchestral version of STOMP on September 17, 19 and 20.

Audiences will have the opportunity to hear from Corigliano himself when he joins Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada at the podium for On-Stage Insights with Andrés during the concert to offer commentary about the music. The Houston Symphony-commissioned piece is the adaptation of STOMP for solo violin to STOMP for orchestra. The piece has a bluegrass sound and, as the name implies, includes foot-stomping in time with the music.

Following intermission, the orchestra will perform Mahler's Symphony No. 5. A passionate and large-scale piece, it is considered to be one of the most emotional orchestral works ever written. The exquisite fourth movement, Adagietto, is Mahler's most-performed composition and was inspired by his love for his wife, Alma.

The concert will take place at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). All programs and artists are subject to change.
