Tony® Award-Winning Costume Designer Ann Hould-Ward is returning to Houston for the first time in over 20 years to revisit her original designs for INTO THE WOODS for the new, re-imagined production of the iconic Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine show. "This is my first opportunity to revisit INTO THE WOODS. I am first struck by how the passage of time only makes things like "Children Will Listen" seem more important and timely! Any show you do is caught in the memories of the life you were living then and the people you shared the show with. I look at this as an opportunity to watch a new, younger, extremely talented group of performers make me hear new things in the script and songs that are now relevant with where I am in life and what I am experiencing in my work and life," said Hould-Ward.

Peter Fitzgerald is joining the creative team as sound designer. Fitzgerald is known for his vast array of work on Broadway including the original production and the 2004 revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, the 1989 revival of GYPSY, the 1990 revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, the original production of FALSETTOS, the original production of VICTOR/VICTORIA and many others. Most recently he was the sound designer for SYLVIA.

Also joining the Creative Team are Karen Sieber as assistant director and associate choreographer and Clint Allen as projection designer.

The scenic design of the show is being created by Kevin Depinet.

"The trick to doing a newly imagined production is to avoid the idea that you're doing a newly imagined production. I believe the key in creating any good design is to understand the story and the vision of what the director wants to do with the production clearly. After those things are established it's typically fairly straightforward to end up with an interesting and evocative environment," said Depinet.

He is particularly eager for one specific aspect of the new design to be seen by the audience. "I'm very excited about the clock/moon scenic element. It's an interesting combination of a few different tricks. We have embedded Led lighting into the numbers of the clock. The trick is you won't see them until they are lit up. Downstage of the clock is a printed moon scrim that hides the clock. It should make for a really theatrically fantastic element!"

Depinet is a Chicago-based designer whose work has been seen on Broadway in productions such as OF MICE AND MEN and AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY and recently gained attention for his work on a production of SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE at the Drury Lane Theatre.

As previously released, this production of INTO THE WOODS will be directed and choreographed by Robert Longbottom and will star Emily Skinner in the role of the Witch. A full cast announcement will be forthcoming. All casting for the production was handled by Stewart/Whitley.

INTO THE WOODS, which will run at Theatre Under The Stars December 6-18, tells a story about Cinderella, a Baker and his Wife, Jack (of 'beanstalk' fame), Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, a Witch and a couple of Princes and a host of fairy tale companions as they journey into the woods and face wolves, giants, and what really happens when wishes come true!
