Girls Only Announces Extension of Its Record-Breaking Run

Girls Only - The Secret Comedy of Women®, the hit comedy that opened January 31 at Main Street Theater-Chelsea Market, today announced that it will add 50 more performances, extending its run until June 1, 2014.

"It seems like Houston women just can't get enough of Girls Only," said the show's on-site producer, Sydney Greenblatt. Last year, the original hit comedy played for five months in its record-breaking run of 99 performances at the same theater.

"This is truly a word-of-mouth show," said Greenblatt. "Girls Only entertained more than 10,000 Houston women on our run last year and now it looks like that total may reach 20,000 before we have to close the doors on June 1," she said.

No further extensions of the show will be possible, according to Greenblatt, because Main Street Theater needs to reclaim the facility for its long-established summer youth programs.

"Girls Only will absolutely, positively close on June 1," she said, "and when it's gone, it's gone."

Featuring Houston actresses Tracy Ahern and Shondra Marie, Girls Only mixes sketch comedy, improvisation, audience participation and uproarious songs and video in a unique examination of all things girly. "It's like Saturday Night Live on hyperdrive," was one theatergoer's summary.

Girls Only was created by Barbara Gehring and Linda Klein, two Denver improv actresses who adapted the earnest and sweetly absurd writings they discovered in their girlhood diaries. The show has since been enjoyed by more one hundred thousand women nationwide.
