The Grand 1894 Opera House's Serious Fun Children's Series presents Bits 'N Pieces Puppet Theatre's production of "Three Billy Goats Gruff" Thursday, April 3 at 10am. Based on P.C. Asbjornsen's Norwegian Folk Tale, this theatrical retelling of the classic children's story is a gigantic puppet production with nine-foot tall, fanciful creations brought to life. Suitable for children kindergarten through 3rd grade.

The age-old story is about three billy goats who set out on a mission to find grass to eat when they happen upon a bridge where an ugly, cranky troll lives. The troll threatens to "gobble them up" if they try to cross the bridge. Thanks to some quick thinking, the goats trick the troll and they all live happily ever after - except the troll who was never heard from again.

First published between 1841 and 1844, Three Bill Goats Gruff reinforces the core values long told and emphasized by our great storytellers. Bits 'N Pieces Executive Director Jerry Bickel is dedicated to influencing the world of tomorrow by enchanting the children of today. Each giant puppet production takes two years to create from script to design to actual building and choreography.

The children's series performances have been designated The Harris L. Kempner Children's Series in honor of Mr. Kempner's lifelong commitment to youth, education and The Grand's programming. They are supported in part by donations to The Grand's Permanent Fund in his memory. Additional support is provided by the following: Dr. Leon Bromberg Charitable Trust, Jamail Galveston Foundation, Robert W. & Pearl Wallis Knox Foundation, Marathon Petroleum, Permanent Endowment Fund Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church , Saltwater Grill, The Commodore on the Beach Hotel and Texas Commission on the Arts.

Tickets are $10 adult, $6 child and school groups are $5 per person with advance reservations.
