For the Mannheim National Theatre of Wagner aficionados Loriot Wagner's Ring designed on 1 night 16 hours Welttheater marathon in 100-meter sprint. The story of the origin of the world in the depths of the Rhine to the Götterdämmerung in three and a half hours.

The idea was first born out of necessity. For season start In 1992, the Mannheim National Theater due to extensive renovation work for 1 ½ years its doors. The Flying Dutchman, Parsifal, Tristan and the Ring could only be performed in concert. Klaus Schultz, who took over as director of the National Theatre in the same year, this distress made to virtue. The Mannheimer Ensemble had its Wagner in the vocal cords and he was able to implement an already years earlier developed with Loriot idea: A humorous summary of Wagner aficionados and Wagner-averse.

The cooperation of Klaus Schultz and LORIOT began in 1980 at the Munich Opera Festival with a contribution to the 800 anniversary of the House of Wittelsbach: IL Trionfo di Baviera; In 1982 he supported LORIOT with his contributions to the 100-year celebration of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. 1985 staged LORIOT at the invitation of Klaus Schultz first time at a theater: Loriots dramatic works (theater Aachen) .1987 played Klaus Schultz in Loriot's first film Ödipussi written for him role of piano playing sublessee Weber. 1999 invited Schultz LORIOT to an evening on which he performs Leonard Bernstein's Candide by Voltaire's novel. This evening took place in the meantime numerous guest appearances.
