BWW Reviews: Guido and the Ladies Who Torment Him - NINE PhotosBWW Reviews: Guido and the Ladies Who Torment Him - NINE
by Amanda Finn

(7/25/2015) - Luisa's husband makes movies. That is the simplest way to describe NINE (the musical based on the 1963 film 8 ½ by Federico Fellini) which follows the story of Guido Contini an Italian director who tries desperately to overcome his recent failings as a filmmaker. Overwhelmed by his desire to have it all, Guido finds himself tormented as well as inspired by the women in his life. Raised in the staunch Catholic way, Guido is well acquainted in the concept of morality, but can't seem to keep himself from straying from the women who love him.

(7/25/2015) - AUBURN, N.Y-The Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival, by special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide, proudly produces the world premiere of the new North American production of SATURDAYNIGHT FEVER.  Performances run from July 22 through through August 12. Based on Nik Cohn's 1975 article 'Tribal Rites of the new Saturday Night' and Norman Wexler's 1977 screenplay it inspired, this iconic time capsule centers around Tony Manero, a Brooklyn youth whose weekend is spent at the local dance hangout. There, he escapes into the admiration of the crowd, a growing relationship and the pulse of the beat that enables him to forget the realities of his life, his dead-end job and his gang of deadbeat friends. This new production delivers all the favorite tunes and dance sequences while bringing out the dimension and layers of the story and the landscape of such an iconic snapshot in American history.  Adapted for the stage by Robert Stigwood in collaboration with Bill Oakes, this new North American version features songs by The Bee Gees, is adapted for the stage by Sean Cercone and features additional music and lyrics by David Abbinanti.

BWW Interviews: Staging MUSIC MAN for a Contemporary Audience PhotosBWW Interviews: Staging MUSIC MAN for a Contemporary Audience
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold

(7/24/2015) - 'I try to do every play I direct keeping in mind both people who have never seen it before and those who might know it well. I ask myself, 'What would today's audience want to hear and how can I tell the story for this a contemporary public?' I actively look for ways to put a spin on even a well-known show like the Music Man so that some things strike the audience as surprises, as fresh and different. I want them not to sing along with tunes they know, but be caught off guard a little and be so busy watching the story unfold that they forget they already know it.' Director/choreographer Marc Robin is discussing his latest staging of Meredith Willson's classic musical, the Music Man, for Maine State Music Theatre. Robin was part of a panel that also included the shows stars, Curt Dale Clark and Lauren Blackman, MSMT's Props Designer Kyle Melton, and the company Director of Communications Carol Marquis, moderated by BWW's Carla Maria Verdino-Sullwold, the fourth such talkback in the company's summer series, Peek Behind the Curtain, which drew a standing-room only crowd.
