IT’S ALIVE! PPTOPA’S YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN IS A MONSTER OF A SHOW!

Pembroke Pines – There’s a monster loose in Pembroke Pines and South Florida theatre lovers will be electrified with this monster of a show! When Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder wrote Young Frankenstein, their satiric movie version of the classic horror film in 1974, they couldn’t have imagined their work would be turned into a smash hit Broadway musical that’s being reanimated in Pembroke Pines by an all star cast, headed by some of the regions finest professional actors over 40 years later. Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts (PPTOPA) continues its run of big-budget, large-scale musicals with Young Frankenstein opening Feb. 26 and running through March 20 at the Susan B. Katz Theater at the River of Grass Arts Park at 17195 Sheridan Street Pembroke Pines.

Headlining the cast is Larry Buzzeo starring as Frederick. Larry has starred in such vehicles as Assassins, Rocky Horror, Take Me Out and most recently in Island City's multiple Carbonell nominated Daniels Husband. His credits include turns at award-winning Slow Burn Theater Company as well as his critically acclaimed one-man Lenny Bruce in Lenny at Tamarac Theatre of Performing Arts. Young Frankenstein also stars the winsome comedienne Gaby Tortoledo bringing beauty, zest and timing to the critical role of Inga. Gaby has performed regularly at Andrews Living Arts and most recently in The Jackie Mason Musical still playing at Empire Stage. Former Actor’s Equity member Erika Scotti, last seen as Mama Rose in Gypsy returns to the PPTOPA stage as Frau Blucher. Del Marrero who has delighted audiences in Hairspray and Willow Runs Chicago adds substance and her brand of comedic flair to the role of Elizabeth. Joining PPTOPA from their recent run in the Entr’Acte Theatrix production of Young Frankenstein are Phillip Santiago as Igor and PPTOPA veteran Christopher Lam reprising his role as the Monster. Young Frankenstein also features Michael Biggs, Michael Schenker, Jerry Tyler, Ted Dvoracek, Robert Lupea, Bernard Lawrence, Karen Blackwell, Shane Combs, Serena Concepcion, Alvin Dantes, Julia Edwards, Patty Fernandez, Barb Goldworm, Melanie Juli, Logan Larroque, George Lupea, Kaelea Elizabeth Murphy, Luis Negron, Greg Polaski, Nic Ramos, Amelia Riches, Emma Schenker and Melissa Burde.

The story of Young Frankenstein follows young Dr. Frederick Frankenstein as he attempts to complete his grandfather's masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor, his lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster -- but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

PPTOPA’s production of Young Frankenstein is directed by Beverley Shanahan whose previous directing credits have included PPTOPA's Oliver, Mikado, Brigadoon and Carousel. Musical direction by Michael Day and Del Marrero and Steven Fuentes are choreographers.

“Young Frankenstein is a huge show that really has everything from comedy, to great music and choreography,” says Director Shanahan. “This show and the Mel Brooks brand of comedy are already beloved by so many people but I really think audiences are going to fall in love with this amazing cast just as much as I have as they really bring this hilarious show to life on the PPTOPA stage.”

Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from Feb. 26 through March 20. Tickets prices are $25 for adults 18 and over, $19 for seniors 62 & over and $15 for children 6 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pptopa.tix.com or by calling the box office at (954) 437-4884. The Susan B. Katz Theater is completely wheelchair accessible and plentiful parking is convenient and free.

PPTOPA productions also feature great value promotional performance nights. For Young Frankenstein, Family Night is Saturday, Feb. 27 and all tickets are $15. PPTOPA’s wildly popular Wine and Wind Down night is Saturday March 5 including a 6:30 p.m. dinner, keepsake wine glass and the show all for just $35. Saturday, March 12 is PPTOPA’s senior matinee with all tickets for just $15.
