The award winning Centennial Black Box Players under the direction of Samantha LaCroix are thrilled to be invited to perform For What It's Worth, an original musical, at the Fort Lauderdale Fringe Festival April 22 and 23 at 3:00 pm.

"The diverse, uncensored, live theater event" is sponsored by Broward College and "aims to fuse the art scene with the local community by bringing the true nature of creation to the stage and street".

For What It's Worth has a book filled with melodrama, unexpected plot twists and witty dialogue, written by budding playwright Ryan Freeman and theater instructor Samantha LaCroix.

LaCroix, an opera singer with a Master's degree in piano performance also wrote the music and lyrics of the musical.

The lush and diverse score is influenced by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Jazz, Beat Boxing and Spoken Word and left audiences humming the tuneful songs for days after the musical's world premiere last October at St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Port Saint Lucie, FL.

Since the premiere, songs and dialogue have been tweaked and revisited, in order to achieve even more emotional depth and story cohesion. In addition, clothing designer RayNelle Benjamin Chapman of the clothing line Nfr Ra Denim Collection(pronounced Nefer Rah) has joined the creative team and is lending her expertise to the costumes, including signature bustiers and hand painted pieces.

The more compact revival cast is joined by show creator Samantha LaCroix in the role of Mama, and features both old and new faces, including alumni of the theater program.

The unpredictable story centers on Katrina, a young and naïve dancer who is torn between 3 very different men, each with their own agenda. On her quest to find herself and make her dreams come true, she encounters many colorful characters as well as locations, such as the seedy Coconut Club and a glamorous casino owned by the Cordella Empire.

Plot twists, Jealousy, Violence and Romance abound as the score soars and Katrina ultimately finds her self-worth and changes not only herself, but the people around her.

Tickets are available now at www. fortlauderdalefringe.com, as well as on location @ Broward College Plaza, 225 E Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, and are $12.00. The fringe also offers affordable one and multi day passes. For more information, call (772) 237-1834.
