Cultural Marketplace Opens the Holiday Season for Sistrunk Community

Broward County's inaugural Cultural Marketplace will celebrate the holiday season and Sistrunk community onSaturday, December 3, from 2 - 6 pm, at Delevoe Park, 2520 NW 6th St. in Fort Lauderdale.
The Cultural Marketplace supports creative and cultural assets of Fort Lauderdale's historic African-American Sistrunk neighborhood by providing a unique gathering place for creative industry entrepreneurs to interact with the community.

Following the Light Up Sistrunk annual event hosted on Dec. 2, by the City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County celebrates the Dec. 3 marketplace with local vendors, live performances and cultural offerings. With Free entry for the public, the marketplace includes:

-Spoken word and poetry exhibitions
-History and culture exhibit
-Vendors; healthy foods; food trucks
-Hands-on art activities
-Storytelling; dance
-Resources for the community
-Mural painting

Also kicking off the festive December month with community pride is theDestination Sistrunk program which encourages residents and visitors to discover Fort Lauderdale's African American history through wayfinding and historic markers; a Black heritage trolley and walking tour; an interactive website; and this cultural marketplace, visit DestinationSistrunk.com.

The Destination Sistrunk Cultural Marketplace is presented by Broward Cultural Division, Broward County Parks & Recreation, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, Broward Municipal Services District; Old Dillard Foundation, Sistrunk Historical Festival, The Trailblazers of Broward County and TOUCHBroward Healthy Community Zones Initiative.

It encourages residents and visitors to discover Fort Lauderdale's African American history and includes: history and wayfinding markers; a Black heritage trolley and walking tour; an interactive website; and a cultural marketplace.
