Florida's Funniest Comedians is taking over The Hive Black Box Theater for a series of comedy nights from June 26 through August 15, 2026.

Featuring some of the region's top stand-up talent alongside nationally touring comedians, this exciting comedy showcase promises sharp wit, hilarious storytelling, and nonstop entertainment for audiences of all kinds.

Performances take place at The Hive Black Box Theater. Tickets start at $25.

Kick off the series with two dynamic performers delivering an evening of big laughs and memorable stories.

Dean Napolitano, originally from Long Island, New York, honed his craft throughout Florida and the Southeast before earning television appearances on Army Wives, Burn Notice, Good Morning America, Heroes, Las Vegas, and The Shield. A favorite among comedy audiences nationwide, Dean has shared stages with legendary performers including Don Rickles and Joan Rivers.

Joining him is British comedian Joe Latham, whose charm and quick wit have entertained audiences across Europe, cruise ships around the world, and comedy venues throughout the United States. Joe has appeared on the BBC and ITV, written for MTV Europe, and has opened for comedians including Kevin Farley and Michael Winslow. His unique perspective on life in America, combined with his unmistakable British accent, makes for an unforgettable comedy experience.

Comedy veterans and rising stars collide for a weekend filled with big personalities and sharp humor.

Greg Henderson, a Memphis-based comedian originally from Mississippi, launched his professional career after winning the Funniest Person in Memphis competition in 2012. Known for his Southern charm, dry sarcasm, and relatable observations on marriage, parenting, and everyday life, Greg has become a favorite throughout the South and Midwest.

Sharing the stage is Miami-based comedian Julie Baez. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Julie draws inspiration from comedy legends Richard Pryor and Benny Hill while sharing humorous stories about growing up in South Florida. A performer at comedy clubs nationwide, including the Miami Improv, Funny Bone, and The Punchline, Julie is also the creator and executive producer of Funny In Pink Productions, an all-female comedy troupe dedicated to entertaining audiences while supporting charitable causes.

The summer comedy series concludes with two standout performers making waves across the comedy world.

Florida native James Yon has emerged as one of the state's hottest rising comedians. He currently hosts Viral Breakdown on the Afrotainment Channel and has shared the stage with comedy favorites including Joe Torry, Jimmy “J.J.” Walker, Tom Rhodes, and Michael Winslow. A finalist in NBC's Stand Up for Diversity competition and a two-time winner of Orlando Improv's Clash of the Comics, James continues to tour clubs and casinos nationwide.

Joining him is Nik Macik, a Florida favorite who began his career with Comedy Key West before touring extensively throughout the Southeast with the Gold Coast Comedy Tour. In addition to stand-up, Nik is expanding into acting with upcoming appearances in the feature film Fang and the web series Groupie: The Blueprint of a Self-Made Millionaire.

Opera Orlando has announced its 2026 Summer Concert Series: No Tenors Allowed, a trio of intimate concerts spotlighting the three leading ladies headlining the Opera's 2026-27 …ooooh, Opera! season. The start of a new decade for the Opera means a new location for the annual series, which will now be presented at Orlando Museum of Art's Truist Auditorium. Across three afternoons, audiences will get an incredible preview of the voices that will headline the MainStage productions in Steinmetz Hall, paired with wine, bites, and that up-close experience of the power of the human voice.

"Summer in Florida is for taking it easy," said Grant Preisser, artistic director of Opera Orlando, "and there's no better way to take it easy than with your opera friends. The Summer Concert Series is the first event of our season, and in addition to welcoming back our opera family, it's our chance to showcase world-class voices singing the music they love. It's a glass of wine, a great song, and the 'Ooooh!' of delight as the audience experiences aria after aria."

This season the series takes its cheeky title from its lineup: three powerhouse sopranos in the spotlight, with general director and Grammy Award-winning baritone Gabriel Preisser popping up throughout the series to join the fun.

A delightful, exhilarating romp through Bel Canto, Baroque gems, and the American songbook. This afternoon offers a first taste of the soprano who stars this April as Adina in Elixir of Love, the Opera's irresistible season finale set in the golden age of Italian cinema. Australian-American soprano Nola Richardson brings a voice The Washington Post praises for its “crystalline diction” and “natural-sounding ease”—a celebrated interpreter of Handel and Mozart who has been called "especially impressive" by The New York Times and made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall. Expect sparkle, mischief, and music to beat the heat. Ooooh…can't help falling for Nola.

A native of Seoul, South Korea, and currently based in New York City, soprano Yeawon Jun brings a versatile voice and a repertoire of heroines—from Mimì and Musetta to Liù, Nedda, and Micaëla. She earned her doctorate at Rutgers University and trained with the legendary Diana Soviero at the Mannes School of Music. Expect glamour, vibrance, and a voice everyone will be hearing much more from. Ooooh…now that's some fine singing!

An afternoon of yearning, wishing, and transcendence—from Dvořák's shimmering “Song to the Moon” to Puccini's “Vissi d'arte…,” this final Sunday introduces the soprano making her Opera Orlando debut this January as Senta in Flying Dutchman. German soprano Johanna Will has sung from San Francisco to China to the Viennese Opera Ball in New York City, working with artists who include Angela Gheorghiu and Richard Bonynge as the youngest-ever recipient of the Rolex Scholarship at Italy's Solti Accademia di Bel Canto. Having recently made her role debut as Senta in Austria, she brings that same soaring artistry home to Orlando. Expect beauty, longing, and a voice to wrap yourself in. Ooooh…Johanna's voice feeds the soul.

Each concert this season is accompanied by Opera Orlando favorite Robin Andrew Stamper. Currently the artistic director, managing director, and chorus master for Opera Tampa, Mr. Stamper continues a versatile career as a coach-accompanist, chorus master, and opera conductor. He previously served as director of music for the Kentucky Opera, artistic director for the Nevada Opera, music director for Orlando Opera, and artistic director for Florida Opera Theatre.

CITYARTS RETROSPECTIVE: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS to Open at CityArts Orlando

The Downtown Arts District has announced the opening of CityArts Retrospective: Celebrating 20 Years, a landmark exhibition honoring two decades of artistic innovation, community impact and cultural leadership in Downtown Orlando. The exhibition debuts on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 6pm-9pm at CityArts Orlando.

This milestone celebration marks the beginning of a year‑long series of special events, including the release of a limited‑edition CityArts Retrospective wine, curated in partnership with Assemblage Wine and world‑renowned artist Boy Kong. Guests attending the opening will have the opportunity to taste the wine and purchase commemorative bottles featuring Boy Kong's art on the label, with an intricate design symbolizing CityArts' layered history, its iconic green building and the map grid of its downtown location. In addition to the CityArts Retrospective exhibition, guests will enjoy five concurrent exhibitions; Artivism curated by Alexis Collum, Redefine Gallery, Young Artists Gallery, Café Gallery (June Bunch), Roberto Gonzalez and the Side Gallery (Parker Sketch). The celebration will also feature live entertainment, including a performance by June Bunch and music by DJ Nigel, along with new limited‑edition merchandise designed by local artists Dawrby, Johnathan Stemberger and Etch.

On March 21, 2019, CityArts relocated to the historic Rogers‑Kiene Building at 39 S. Magnolia Avenue, donated by Ford Kiene to the City of Orlando for use as an arts space. With its Queen Anne architectural style and cultural significance, the building inspired the transition from “CityArts Factory” to CityArts Orlando.

BroadwayWorld Launches Producer Fantasy Game

Ever watched the weekly Broadway grosses roll in and thought you could pick the winners? Now you can put it to the test. BroadwayWorld has launched the Producer Fantasy Game, a free, season-long competition that lets theatre fans build a roster of Broadway shows and earn points based on how those productions actually perform at the box office. The draft window is open now.

How It Works

The setup is simple. During the draft window, you pick any six Broadway productions that opened this season. Drafting is non-exclusive, so there is no need to race a rival for a hot title. Any number of players can roster the same show.

From there, your shows go to work for you. Every week, each production on your roster earns fantasy points based on its reported box office grosses and capacity percentages. When Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle nominations and wins are announced, your shows bank bonus points on top of that. And each week you can answer our Fantasy Forecast prediction questions for up to five bonus points per correct call.

Weekly Scoring

Each week, a show earns one base point for every $50,000 it grosses, so a $1 million week is worth 20 base points. On top of that, shows can earn bonuses: up to five points for filling seats (based on how close to full capacity the house ran), six points for grossing $2 million or more (or three points for grossing between $1 million and $2 million), and eight points if its gross jumped at least 15 percent from the week before. A show loses four points if its gross dropped at least 15 percent. If a show goes dark and reports no gross for a week, it scores zero for that week with no penalty.

The Fantasy Forecast

The Producer Fantasy Game is really two games in one. The first is the box office game: drafting shows and earning points from their weekly grosses and awards. The second is the Fantasy Forecast, a weekly set of prediction questions about what's happening on Broadway, where each correct answer is worth up to five points. You can play one or both.

We track them separately so you can shine at either. Your Producer score covers the box office game, your Forecast score covers your prediction results, and your Combined score adds the two together for the overall championship ranking. The leaderboard lets you toggle between Overall, Producers, and Forecasters, so a sharp predictor can top the Forecasters board even during a rough season for their roster, and a roster powerhouse can lead the Producers board without answering a single question.

Managing Your Roster

Your lineup stays at six shows all season, and you have plenty of room to maneuver. You get one free drop every week, three additional season drops to use anytime before the trade deadline, and free replacements whenever a show on your roster closes. New productions open throughout the season and become available the moment they start reporting grosses, so it pays to keep a transaction in your pocket for that buzzy new opening.

Review: SIX: THE MUSICAL at Dr. Phillips Center For The Performing Arts

Four years ago, SIX: THE MUSICAL came to Dr. Phillips Center and immediately became an instant favorite for this reviewer. My original review posited that I’d listen to the cast recording for a couple weeks. That was a complete underestimation, as SIX has become part of my regular rotation on morning commutes. If I’m not listening to 1A on NPR or my oft-played Legends of the Fall score soundtrack CD, it’s likely to be SIX or seven other Broadway albums I always keep on the ready. The sheer staying power of a one-act concert musical has led to its continued endurance on stages in the West End and Broadway, along with tours running internationally to this day. Heck, even a pro-shot of the original West End cast (recorded in 2022) was theatrically released last year in the UK, with a US release set for this coming August.

The enduring popularity of SIX can be found in its unique approach to concept musical. The show doesn’t play within the confines of reality. All these characters are dead, to begin with. And they’re all Renaissance era women who communicate through twenty-first century pop artists. Oh, and they also are pitted against each other in a trauma-dumping battle royale. On paper, the concept seems ridiculous. And yet, thankfully, it works extremely well. History has never felt so exciting, so fist-pumping, so lip-sync-battle worthy. Sure, Hamilton gives us United States history entirely through hip-hop and rap. But SIX eschews any semblance to traditional historical retelling by turning elementary school rhyme into high-energy rock concerts that never fails to engage the audience on an emotional level as much as it does an intellectual one. Not to pit the two musicals against each other, but Hamilton will spend twenty minutes looking into the minutiae of one aspect of our founding fathers, while SIX options up to tell each wife’s story more thriftily through wholly unique approaches of both history and commentary.

An audience could easily eat up a two-act musical in the formula SIX provides – each wife sharing their story through song – but knows to also not give us too much of a good thing. Ironically, giving these women less time than Hamilton does allows the audience to always want more. They never wear out their welcome as a result, while also offering even more commentary on the broader theme of the musical: how women are always, unfortunately, sidelined or dismissed in the first “version” of history. I have always loved this show’s clever way of reframing all the known history of the Tudor era into a relatable criticism of how women are often defined in world events based on their association with men. SIX allows us to finally put the spotlight on their accomplishments and neuroses, informing us how even their choices – or lack of them – still gave them some level of power in shaping the course of human history.

Consider, for example, how Catherine of Aragon (Emma Elizabeth Smith) did absolutely nothing wrong as a wife. She was dutiful, loyal, and a model figure of submission in an era where such qualities were ideal for a spouse. The only thing “wrong” with her was more a biological hiccup than anything else – she conceived a daughter, Mary. She displays her righteous indignation with both Henry and “the system” when she gets replaced with Anne Boleyn. Even if she did everything right, even if she played by all the rules of what a woman should be in her time, she still ended up tossed aside because her gender was otherwise powerless in matters of state. It’s no wonder she felt wronged by her husband, and wanting to curry favor within the fictional SIX concert for leader of the girl group.

Next, we have a woman ahead of her time: Anne Boleyn (Nella Cole). For all intents and purposes, she was born in the wrong century. This was someone who knew how to use her own femininity to her benefit. Rather than serve merely as a mistress to the king, she literally influenced him to create the Church of England in order to put herself in a position of power as the king’s wife. And unlike women of her era, Anne Boleyn never shied away from the men who interested her. She could be a flirt, but at the end of the day, she remained faithful to her husband. And, by golly, she tried to give him a son multiple times. Five miscarriages worked against her, along with his suspicions of her having affairs. He fabricated the claim of infidelity in order to use her own femininity against her to justify both her execution and his marriage to a third wife. Why should a wife suffer for a husband’s inability to successfully impregnate her?

Women’s suffering would become the emotional throughline of Jane Seymour (Kelly Denice Taylor). Unlike the other wives of SIX, Jane has become somewhat of an apologist for Henry’s behavior towards them. It could be naivete, or it could be her own form of self-preservation, but she opted to look at Henry through the good he provided for her. She loved him unconditionally, even if he loved his wives with that same conditional need: to give him a son. Jane Seymour was the only one to succeed at that, though it came at the expense of her own life. Had literally any of Henry’s previous wives been successful at siring a son, Jane Seymour’s story could have played out very differently. Yet, because of her husband’s stubbornness and faults and two failed marriages, she suffers and pays for it with her own life.

There is some karmic justice to how Henry wronged his fourth wife, Anna of Cleves (Hailey Alexis Lewis), as he essentially divorced her but still kept her living in relative luxury for the rest of her life. It’s so gratifying to know that a man has wronged yet another wife – all because he wasn’t attracted to her anymore – and now has to pay through the nose for it. Anna of Cleves’s post-Henry life literally was as a lady of the court who still had favour with the king, even if she no longer had to bear the burden of being married to him. Of the six wives, Anna always felt like the one whose only suffering was her pride. Yet she owns her status, knowing that she might have been one of the lucky ones among the notches on Henry’s belt. She didn’t lose her head or her life whilst married to him, even having the last laugh by outliving Henry by a good ten years.

Katherine Howard (Caroline Siegrist), Wife-o No. 5, could perhaps bear the depressing mantle of being the wife most wronged not just by Henry, but by all the men in her life. History typically painted her as reckless, not just because of her age (she was still a teenager when she married a 49-year-old Henry VIII), but also because official records cited her (suspected) infidelity as the reason for her execution. More modern approaches to historical facts paint a different picture. Instead, we meet a woman who’d been groomed, abused, and objectified long before Henry came along. And the “reckless” reputation she once had has now transformed into a tragic backstory, one that shows how men with power took advantage of her – with Henry merely the latest.

Just as karmic justice seemed to reward Anna of Cleves, it also rewards Catherine Parr (Tasia Jungbauer) by sheer virtue of outliving her husband. One aspect of Catherine’s story that I had forgotten was how she never actually loved Henry VIII. Rather, she was always in love with Thomas Seymour (Jane’s own brother), only marrying Henry VIII for stability and companionship as he made her “an offer she couldn’t refuse.” And it’s Catherine Parr who, within SIX, is the voice of reason among the wives. None of them should beat each other up because they all married the same guy. None of them had faults that made them ex-wives. If anything, it’s through Catherine’s less-infatuated view of Henry that the wives realize: we never needed him. And now, we’ve outlasted him. History knows our names just as well as, if not better than, they know his.

Five hundred years of an embarrassing nursery rhyme has become rewritten to allow these women to take back their roles, their actions, their wants and desires. Instead of history painting them as insufficient wives to the man that spearheaded the English Reformation, SIX gives us a more nuanced understanding of how one man – insecure, extremely stubborn, and suspicious – has wronged six women in his life all for his own, selfish pursuits of an heir. The success of SIX rests not in the notion that it is rewriting history, but rather in offering a way to re-examine historical fact to find the hidden truths that were there all along. And, of course, set them to iconic and incomparable songs that teach it all to an audience in ninety minutes. SIX as a story is a cerebral and intellectually stimulating lesson in Tudor era politics. But SIX as a concert? Definitely one of the best experiences an audience member can have.

Even if you’re not here for the approach history, you will never be disappointed in a SIX concert experience. It knows how to deliver great showmanship through their primary six performers, the brazzle-dazzle of their costumes, and the live “ladies in waiting” band that bring It just as much as the ex-wives do. As this was my second time seeing SIX, it meant that I could think about this show less as “oh, what is this about?” and more as “Yay, my favorite song is coming up!” Ranking the nine songs would be a difficult task as each one has their own unique strengths that make them stand out from each other. Whether it’s the clever wordplay of “Don’t Lose Ur Head” or the stirring melody of “Heart of Stone” or the vibrant energy of “All You Wanna Do,” every song in SIX emulates iconic pop and R&B stars of the twenty-first century with great success. Thanks to my rampant playing of the cast recording in my car for the last four years, I knew these lyrics and chords and riffs intimately well, silently lip-syncing along to favorites. Occasionally, I’d even outright sing along to more memorable bops even if I did so off-key and forgetting a word or two because I was so caught up in watching the spectacle. (Sitting in row two and having my quiet sing-along drowned out by those mic’d on stage also helped.)

Truly, it’s the performers of SIX who should be recognized, not my contributions from the audience. The 2026 “Boleyn Tour” cast includes a whole new crop of queens who bring It to every performance, delivering the same energy and diva-ness on the stage as the ex-wives I saw perform here four years prior. Emma Elizabeth Smith’s approach to Catherine of Aragon differed enough from the last tour to feel fresh and new, as she made her version of the first wife play more embittered and regretful. As a result, “No Way” was delivered with this ferocity that made her unforgettable in the role. Nella Cole’s version of Anne Boleyn likewise leaned more into the character’s feisty nature, thus turning “Don’t Lose Ur Head” into the most comically fun number of the night. She had a lot of fun with the cleverness of the wordplay; I still love whenever any Anne Boleyn says “pret a manger” in SIX.

If I were forced to pick a favorite song in SIX, despite claiming it would be difficult, it would always be “Heart of Stone.” Occasionally during my morning commutes to work, I may opt to skip the song in playback because it never fails to make me cry when the lyrics reach “ ‘Cause like a river runs dry / and leaves its scars behind / I’ll be by your side / ‘Cause my love is set in stone.” As a result, I knew to prepare myself for when Kelly Denice Taylor reached those lyrics herself. Needless to say, her delivery – heartrending, raw, and pitch perfect – still left me in tears. A musical like SIX knows how to balance the fun with the fugue; “Heart of Stone” and “I Don’t Need Your Love” serve as the dramatic, heavy anchors that allow the more lighthearted songs to keep us upbeat and energized. Upbeat and energized can also be used to describe Hailey Alexis Lewis’ rendition of “Get Down,” the Rihanna-inspired track that always ends with first-row attendees dancing along at the queen’s orders. Lewis also makes sure to own the choreography of that number, never allowing herself a chance to take a breath or pause, but to move flawlessly along the stage in Anna of Cleves’ glee at how she still “won” despite losing Henry.

Surprisingly, the usually more hyperactive song “All You Wanna Do” as sung by Katherine Howard (and Caroline Siegrist as the SIX performer), had less choreography than the original “Aragon Tour” staging did. Part of me wonders if it’s because Siegrist most recently joined the tour a week prior (having previously worked on the Norwegian Cruise Line tour of the show), so choreography she already knew was not yet adjusted for the various stagings on tour compared to the cruise ship stage she was already familiar with. As a result, her approach to Katherine did allow us to see her more as the victimized teenager that history now paints her to be, someone not as reckless as previous renditions, but with an internal pain and trauma that was now bleeding into the fun of her song. What her number lacked in choreography this time around, she more than made up with a phenomenal voice that definitely gave the song the most pop-ified sound of the SIX musical repertoire.

Finally, there’s Tasia Jungbauer as Catherine Parr, who – for this reviewer at least – was the MVP of the ex-wives. Her Stage Presence alone made her stand out among the performers, while her rendition of “I Don’t Need Your Love” definitely was the standout performance of the night. I may have cried tears of joy at “Heart of Stone,” my typical emotional reaction to the song, but I was left utterly speechless, breathless, at finally hearing the final lines of the song: “Without him, I disappear.” As if the show made even more sense for me now than it did four years ago. Jungbauer makes the audience feel her angst and turmoil in those lines, thus proving that the show saved the best for last with her as Catherine Parr.

With the “Boleyn Tour” still going strong, I feel content making a prediction that a “Seymour Tour” may follow. And perhaps in four years – or hopefully sooner – I will revisit SIX once more. Four years after first seeing SIX, I still remain impressed by how well the musical continues to work. What initially seemed like a clever gimmick – a pop concert starring the six wives of Henry VIII – has instead proven itself to be one of the most inventive pieces of musical theatre of the last decade. Beneath the infectious songs, dazzling costumes, and arena-concert energy is a thoughtful examination of how history remembers women, and who gets to control the narrative. By allowing these queens to reclaim their stories, SIX transforms a familiar nursery rhyme into something more empowering for their her-story, insightful for modern audiences to learn from, and unequivocably moving when experienced in the theatre.

Of course, none of that would matter if the show was not also tremendously entertaining. The 2026 Boleyn Tour cast delivers the same energy, humor, and emotional resonance to their characters that made me fall in love with SIX the first time around. In addition, they bring enough individuality to make these performances feel entirely their own. Whether you're discovering the musical for the first time or returning as a longtime fan who knows every lyric by heart, SIX remains a royal triumph. One that proves history can be far more fun when delivered by six queens with something worth saying through songs that are worth slaying.

Based on the hit Disney film and inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen, Frozen tells the inspiring story of sisters Anna and Elsa as they journey through love, courage, and self-discovery in the kingdom of Arendelle. Featuring favorite songs including “Let It Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “For the First Time in Forever,” the musical celebrates the importance of family, friendship, and embracing what makes us unique.

Featuring a cast of 28 young performers, Frozen follows Princess Elsa, who possesses magical powers that allow her to freeze objects and people — powers she struggles to control. After inheriting the throne, Elsa flees the kingdom, accidentally plunging Arendelle into an eternal winter and placing her sister Anna in danger. Through sacrifice, courage, and the power of true love, the sisters discover the bond that can save both their family and their kingdom.

Under the direction of Riverside Theatre’s Director of Education, Kevin Quillinan, the cast of young performers will spend weeks rehearsing acting, singing, and learning choreography to create a magical theatrical experience for the community.

“Frozen is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and passion for performing,” said Quillinan. “Audiences will be amazed by the talent and energy these young performers bring to the stage.”

Adding to the theatrical experience, the Waxlax Stage will be transformed into the castle of Arendelle, creating an immersive environment for audiences from the moment they arrive. Patrons will be seated family-style at long community tables designed to resemble the grand banquet hall of the royal castle, placing guests directly inside the world of Frozen.

Select performances will also feature pre-show dining with a specially curated Royal Menu served family-style, allowing guests to enjoy a unique theatrical dining experience before the performance begins along with special performances while they dine and before the production begins.

When Frozen premiered in 2013, it quickly became one of the most successful animated musicals of all time, earning more than $1.2 billion worldwide. The film received widespread critical acclaim and won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. The Broadway adaptation opened in February 2018 and became one of Broadway’s top-grossing productions during its run of more than 850 performances.

Review: DOWNHILL THE PLAY at Education Is Cool - Get One, Inc. AS2 Productions, Ronald Diltz II Productions, Cee & Hear Productions

Downhill the Play follows the real-life story of Anderson C. Hill, an attorney for Bethune-Cookman College and a nightclub owner. The production traces Hill’s rapid rise to success and his eventual fall from grace—true to its title, Downhill.

The performances were a clear strength of the show. I had the pleasure of meeting the lead actor, CeeJay Joseph, prior to the performance, and he delivered a compelling portrayal of Anderson Hill. Alongside Joseph, Troy D. Williams stood out as the slick and smarmy Bill Williams, while Dianne Grant brought depth and emotional grounding to the role of Hill’s wife, Sandra.

The script, however, told a different story. Adapted from Hill’s autobiography by Ronald Diltz II—who also served as one of the play’s executive producers—the writing felt uneven. Despite Diltz’s extensive background in theater, the script lacked the cohesion and focus expected from a seasoned playwright.

One of the biggest challenges was the play’s length and structure. Divided into two acts, each containing more than 20 scenes, the production felt overly fragmented. While many scenes were brief, not all of them served a clear purpose. Credit is certainly due to the technical crew, who managed constant transitions with impressive precision—it often felt like they had as much onstage movement as the actors themselves. Still, the abundance of scenes created a sense that every detail of Hill’s day-to-day life was included, yet essential context was missing. I found myself leaving with more questions than answers.

Faith appeared to be an important theme in Hill’s life, but its presence in the play was inconsistent—only briefly highlighted at the beginning and end. This made it difficult to fully grasp its significance in his journey. Ultimately, this felt like a story that may resonate more strongly for those already familiar with the source material. In a conversation with Joseph, he mentioned the possibility of adapting the story into a film, and I agree that this format could offer a more cohesive and focused narrative.

Despite its shortcomings, the production succeeds in one important way. From what I’ve gathered, the creative team behind Downhill is made up of a close-knit group of collaborators who came together with the resources and passion to tell a story that matters to them. At its core, this is what theater is all about: community. Not every production needs to aim for awards recognition to be meaningful. As someone who has spent years in educational theater, this is the same lesson I hope to pass on to my students—tell your story, and build your community.

Pompano Beach Celebrates Juneteenth and Caribbean Heritage Month With Music, Theater and More

The City of Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department officially kicked off its Juneteenth and Caribbean Heritage Month celebrations early with an energy-filled Emancipation Day Celebration on May 23, honoring Florida's historic Emancipation Day and setting the tone for a month of cultural events, live performances, storytelling, music, and community gatherings throughout June.

The celebrations continue across the Pompano Beach Cultural Center, Blanche Ely House Museum, Ali Cultural Arts Center, and other community venues, offering residents and visitors opportunities to experience African American and Caribbean heritage through artistic expression and shared cultural experiences.

“Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the resilience, creativity, and enduring contributions of African American communities to our nation's cultural identity,” said Ty Tabing, Cultural Affairs Director for the City of Pompano Beach.

“Our Emancipation Day Celebration launched an incredible season of cultural programming, and throughout June we continue creating spaces where history, storytelling, music, and community come together to inspire reflection, joy, and celebration.”

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing the end of slavery in the United States. In Florida, emancipation was announced earlier on May 20, 1865, at the Knott House in Tallahassee, where Union Brigadier General Edward McCook read the Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved Floridians.

Review: AN EVENING WITH EDGAR ALLAN POE at Midnight Creative

Edgar Allan Poe remains one of the most iconic American writers, known for his haunting exploration of death, grief, and the macabre. As a theater director, I selected a Poe adaptation for my Fall 2026 production (that will be licensed through Pioneer Drama). In my search for a script that would best suit my group, I encountered many interpretations. This particular production stood out for its vignette-style format, with each piece featuring a single performer presenting some of Poe’s most beloved works.

The stories included “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Black Cat,” “The Premature Burial,” “The Raven,” “Annabel Lee,” and “The Masque of the Red Death.” Of these, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Premature Burial,” “The Raven,” and “Annabel Lee” were performed as musical numbers, while the others were delivered as spoken word. The music, composed by Danny Elfman, added an intriguing tonal layer that complemented Poe’s characteristic sense of unease.

Produced by Midnight Creative, the show was presented outside of their usual speakeasy-style format, for which they are known. Typically, their productions include immersive ambience and signature cocktails that enhance the audience’s experience. While I enjoyed this performance, I couldn’t help but wonder how those added elements might have elevated it further.

The staging itself was minimal: a desk adorned with candles and books, accompanied by a projection screen used to create visual effects for each piece. While some projections were evocative, many felt unnecessary and did not significantly enhance the storytelling.

Costuming, always an area of personal interest for me, was particularly notable. The designs were largely period-appropriate to Poe’s lifetime, yet incorporated subtle modern elements that kept them fresh. I also appreciated the casting choice—most performers were women presenting works written by a male author. This offered a refreshing and unconventional perspective, especially as many of Poe’s stories center on the deaths of women, often from illness such as tuberculosis, reflecting both the historical reality of his time and his own personal experiences with loss.

Overall, this production offered an engaging interpretation of Poe’s work, balancing music, storytelling, and atmosphere. If you enjoy adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe and have the opportunity to see a Midnight Creative production—especially in their signature speakeasy format—it promises to be a memorable and unique theatrical experience.

SONIC LIVE IN CONCERT to Launch Global Tour With US and UK Premieres

As Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates 35 years as one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time, Senbla and SEGA today announced Sonic Live In Concert (www.sonicliveinconcert.com). This new concert experience brings the music and moments of the beloved video games to the stage.

Featuring iconic moments and music from the very first game in 1991 through today, the production will debut in the U.S. at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on September 26, 2026, before making its European premiere at London's Eventim Apollo on September 30. The U.S. tour will visit more than 30 cities nationwide, and a UK tour will follow in February 2027. More European dates will be announced at a later time. Tickets will go on sale May 29, 2026, with pre-sale tickets going on sale on May 28, 2026.

As part of a global rollout celebrating the franchise's milestone anniversary, Sonic Live In Concert features the most recognizable music from the Sonic universe, performed by a live ensemble alongside rock musicians, vocalists, and electronic elements. The setlist includes fan-favorite tracks and an incredible array of music from the very first game through to today accompanied by synchronized HD footage of iconic levels, moments and boss battles from the franchise. Audiences can expect musical Easter eggs woven into the arrangements, adding an extra layer of discovery that brings Sonic's world vividly to life on stage.

The concert also highlights the creative legacy behind Sonic's music from legendary composers Jun Senoue and Tomoya Ohtani, whose work has helped define Sonic's sound across generations.

Pompano Beach Arts to Close 2025–2026 Artist in Residence Program With Grand Finale Exhibition

Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department will present the Grand Finale Exhibition of the 2025 - 2026 Artists in Residence (AiR) featuring this past year's cohort of exceptional artists. This celebration will premiere on Friday, June 5, during the season's final Old Town Untapped and remain on view through June 30.

Representing months of artistic exploration and professional development, this final collaboration highlights the dynamic and diverse works created by this year's resident artists during their eight-month residency at the historic Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCA). Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists in person during the opening celebration and experience the creative energy that has made the AiR program a cornerstone of Pompano Beach's growing arts scene.

“This event represents the culmination of an incredible year of artistic growth,” said Ty Tabing, Cultural Affairs Director for the City of Pompano Beach. “Also, presenting the Artists in Residence Final Exhibition during the beloved Old Town Untapped series creates an exciting intersection of visual art, music, and community celebration while giving audiences the opportunity to connect directly with the artists and their work.”

From October through June, the historic Bailey Contemporary Arts Center pulsates with creative energy through the Artists in Residence program, which provides emerging and established artists with studio space, exhibition opportunities, mentorship, and professional development resources. Throughout the year, each artist is featured as an “Artist of the Month,” presenting individual exhibitions, workshops, performances, and community engagement activities designed to foster meaningful connections with South Florida audiences.

In addition to refining their artistic practices, the residents participate in marketing and business development workshops to strengthen their professional careers and expand their impact within the community.

OUT THERE begins with a YouTube-style introduction to Larry’s (Mark Vigeant) current situation—dropped into the Alaskan wilderness, he’s desperate to prove that the young, rich influencers have nothing on him when it comes to survival grit. The reality? Not so much. Simultaneously performed live and broadcast via phone camera to a screen on stage, Vigeant’s OUT THERE is a hysterical sendup of influencer culture, midlife crises, and trying to construct a legacy that says you were here. The camera work is hilariously messy but also very effective; if Jamie Lloyd’s Sunset Blvd. were dropped into the middle of the woods, it might look something like this. Audience members holding branches, leaves, and votive candles become dense trees and eager fireflies. While the predetermined punchlines are successful in their own right, Vigeant’s quick-witted work in responding to the live audience interactions is by far the highlight of the show; his YouTuber dude-bro vocal cadence and feigned enthusiasm is so convincing that you’d be hard pressed not to go searching for his channel post-show. With roughly 20 minutes left in the performance on Saturday, the wearable rig for his phone totally fell apart, becoming useless—and without missing a beat, Vigilant had audience members becoming conveniently located trees and branches on which to rest his phone. A punchline montage in the end displays impressively quick editing skills that really drives home just how unique each performance of this show is. You’ll certainly have the time of your life.

SOLOVELA (Blue Venue)

In the vein of unique performances—you will not get a show that is quite so different each time as SOLOVELA, improvised by Diane Jorge, is. Each performance is comprised of two parts: an interview that Jorge conducts with an audience member, followed by a telenovela-style dramatization of the story that audience member tells, performed by Jorge alone. It’s a seemingly simple concept, but it’s deceptively complex; as the details quickly stack up (names, cities, years, relationships, and events) it’s fascinating to see Jorge’s comic genius churning in real time while she asks for more. On Saturday, an audience member told Jorge about moving to Orlando to help with her sister’s baby, how she met her partner at a farmer’s market, and about a messy gay arch nemesis. (“He’s the villain because he’s a bad person, not because he’s gay, don’t cancel me,” Jorge later calls out.) After quickly titling the story El Mercado de Agricultores del Amor” (“The Farmer’s Market of Love”), Jorge was off to the races, flipping between accessories, voices, and locations, playing up pieces of comedy that lesser improvisational artists may not have ever seized upon. What is truly astounding, however, is the long game that Jorge plays—a relatively complex plot twist involving a flashback and villainous motivations had to have been set up early on in the act, and it all tied together neatly. A “commercial break” halfway through and a never-to-be resolved cliffhanger later, Jorge proves to the audience why she brings SOLOVELA to Orlando Fringe with a string of distinctions; she’s really, really good at this.

POEMS FOR GOD (Pink Venue)

Created and Performed by Victoria Watson Sepejak

It’s a rare thing to be invited to throw things on stage, but that’s exactly what kicks off POEMS FOR GOD—Sepejak, in full snow day attire, arms the audience with bean bags of myriad size and waits for them to inevitably be tossed their way. This is not just a fun way to open the house; it also breaks the tension of what to expect and totally erodes the fourth wall between audience and performer, preparing those in the house for what is to come. What follows is a series of seemingly totally unrelated, chaotic, and wildly uncomfortable sketches (or poems, as Sepejak calls them) presented by an angel who is attempting to “save all woman” on Earth. The term “uncomfortable” here is not derogatory or derisive—in fact, it’s high praise. Whether it’s exploring the inner lives of the villagers in the opening number of Beauty and the Beast (“Marie! The baguettes! Hurry up…bitch!”), exposing pedophiles, visiting The Village of Aborted Babies, or an ode to Aveeno body lotion, Sepejak has a brilliant way of forcing skin-crawling discomfort with the audience and absolutely reveling in it, all to side-splitting effect. A great majority of the show involves audience participation, and this reviewer ended up portraying Sepejak’s father, serving as a cautionary tale for hungry kids, and raining body lotion onto Sepejak as they “Flashdance” in a metal chair bathed in red light. POEMS FOR GOD is an anarchic, uproarious hour, but disorganized it is not; Sepejak retains total control all the way through a conclusive feminist Free Willy sequence tinged with It’s a Wonderful Life. This brief tour through Sepejak’s twisted, hilarious mind leaves the audience wandering back into the festival in a hysterical daze—and it is well worth the trip.

ODYSSEA’S FAMILY TREE (Orange Venue)

Upon entering the Orange Venue for ODYSSEA’S FAMILY TREE, a very distinct aesthetic is presented in the ragged imagery; gossamer fabric hangs from a line and drapes over unmoving bodies on stage; it evokes a haunting southern gothic. The plot here is relatively simple: Odyssea discovers what is presumably a family scrapbook of photos and letters, and ghosts of those who wrote them proceed to illustrate what they contain with pole dance. While the plot is not the draw here, it’s still very light on any sort of through line, and is really only supported by blackout narration between pieces; a dark narrative sketches pictures of a violent, consumptive sort of love. The performers are mesmerizing in their acrobatic athleticism—what these folks can do with their bodies is truly remarkable. Their astounding strength and control (along with some clever choreography) result in some dramatic moments and a few striking images. The dancers go round and round set to a series of slow jams that unwind rather than escalate, and therein lies the trouble. A light narrative is fine so long as there is an arc, and that’s missing here. The ghosts of ODYSSEA’S FAMILY TREE tell their stories and rally around Odyssea, but for what purpose? The final images could either evoke a release of the past or a celebration of it—but then again, perhaps the mixed meaning is the point.

THE $#!T (Ten10 Brewing)

Who among us has it not happened to: a spectacularly ill-timed and poorly-situated bowel movement traps you more effectively than the bars of a cage ever could. For Matti McLean, this is the framing device that opens THE $#!T at Ten10 Brewing. McLean finds himself navigating a series of ACME-level hijinks as a result of a #2 taken in a hostel room just feet away from his American ex-boyfriend; it’s a real freeze-frame “you’re probably wondering how I got here” situation. In the midst of figuring it all out, McLean retraces the steps that brought him to this point—but not just that day. Through a series of vignettes covering over half of his life, McLean examines his relationships, religious trauma, the triumph of finding his tribe, and his own personal shortcomings. He makes the pointed decision to refer to the audience as “you” when also referring to his ex; it’s conspiratorial and forces a sort of active listening to the stories as if the audience was there. With his endearing Canadian accent, McLean makes excellent use of the space between his words, emphasizing the power of pauses and silence not only for comedic purposes, but for heartbreaking beats as well. Brief mentions of kink and polyamory appear, but the powerful thing about THE $#!T is that, at its core, it’s not about who you love so much as it is about how you love them—and, perhaps even more importantly, how you allow them to love you in return.

FOOL OF GRACE (Ten10 Brewing)

Unusually for a Friday (or likely any time outside of the festival), the thrumming voice of a pipe organ fills Ten10 Brewing’s B-Side as audiences file into the house for FOOL OF GRACE. The premise is simple: we’re here to attend a church service conducted by Father Andrea Barello. As you might imagine, the service is not your father’s Catholic procedural. Or, perhaps more aptly put, it means to be—if it weren’t for the Three-Stooges-esque mishaps and bits that Barello graces the stage with. Barello’s physical comedy is deceptively simple in its presentation (a tick-tack-toe game played during blessings, for example) but is so effective that it had this reviewer in stitches and tears. This is only matched by Barello’s mastery of prop comedy—whether it’s with a music stand that refuses to cooperate, a Darth Vader mug full of holy water, or an altar candle that he is “lighting up”. This one is also for the musical lovers: the Jesus Christ Superstar theme makes a recurring appearance, and “Money” from Cabaret pops up when it’s time for offerings. When it’s time for confession, Barello invites audience members to come forth and confess their sins. While the intention is surely to level the confessions for comedic purposes, Saturday revealed a surprisingly sharp emotional catharsis in the revelations. One audience member admitted the anger they hold with those who fail to move the world forward; another discussed their distancing from the church but their discovery of spirituality. To his credit, Barello met the somber moment—and then cleverly spun the comedy back up to a fever pitch. By the time the audience is left doing the Macarena, one message is surely come from on high: it’s a real blessing to be one of Father Barello’s “little sheep”.

COLONIAL CIRCUS (Pink Venue)

Created and Performed by Two.2.Mango (Sachin Sharma and Shreya Parashar)

COLONIAL CIRCUS starts with an announcement clarifying that the show is not, in fact, a circus—but Sachin Sharma and Shreya Parashar, known as the duo Two.2.Mango, are clowns of exceedingly high calibre. What first seems unapproachably odd (an unintelligible piece of throat-singing accompanied by curious choreography involving a long sheet of fabric) soon becomes engrossingly funny in its quirk. Sharma and Parashar, in clown shorthand, take on the role of white Brits and tell the history of English imperialism and the subsequent colonization of India. The pair do a genius job of making biting social commentary—people (literally) getting screwed by religion, a comic explanation of what white guilt is (and isn’t), and a skin tone chart delineating who’s allowed on the boat in search of spice—and are totally unafraid of the discomfort it incites. In fact, this is where the act thrives. While some of the laughter in the house is perhaps born of that discomfort, a great deal of it surely comes as a response to the audacity of the bits. (And perhaps that discomfort is a good thing for an Orlando theatre audience to experience.) As things escalate, a somber moment suddenly arises in the aftermath of a fire. With the inclusion of what seems to be a primary-sourced letter from the British takeover of India, Sharma and Parashar have done something staggering: by the time your cheeks hurt from laughing so much, your heart will suddenly ache as well. If comedy thrives on the unexpected, COLONIAL CIRCUS has found a rich vein to tap in the material addressed here.

Community Stages & Cornerstone School To Launch Summer Theatre Camps

Community Stages and Cornerstone School will team up once again this summer to offer a series of immersive theatre camps designed to help young people build creativity, confidence, collaboration, and joyful self-expression through the performing arts.

Running throughout June and July in Ocala, the camps welcome students from early elementary through high school and include both exploratory drama experiences and a full-scale summer musical production.

This June's three-week-long camps, From Page to Stage and Screen, invite campers to dive into the worlds of beloved stories from literature, Broadway, and film through acting, music, movement, storytelling, design, and hands-on theatrical creation. Weekly themes draw inspiration from adventures and characters familiar to young audiences while encouraging imagination over perfection and participation over pressure.

In July, older campers will take the stage in a three-week performance intensive culminating in Disney's Moana Jr., presented at the Dassance Fine Arts Center at the College of Central Florida.

"Our camps are built around the idea that theatre skills are life skills," said Terry LeCompte. "We want young people to feel safe being imaginative, expressive, collaborative, and bold. Whether a camper dreams of performing professionally or simply needs a place to belong and grow, these programs are designed to help them shine."

Programs are led by experienced teaching artists, musicians, directors, and arts educators - including Terry LeCompte, Greg Doss, and Roberta Smith - whose backgrounds span professional theatre, music education, youth development, and community arts leadership.

Community Stages has become known throughout North Central Florida for its highly interactive and imaginative approach to theatre education, emphasising creativity, belonging, and community connection.

Review: THE REVIEW, THEN EVE AND MORE at The Orlando Fringe Festival

THE REVIEW (Peach)

At the top of THE REVIEW, Andrew Broaddus and Martin Dockery enter the stage as two lawyers conducting a contentious performance review. They’re seated center stage within a rectangle of LED lights, and they rarely move from their chairs for the entirety of the hour. Therein lies the magic of THE REVIEW: you won’t even notice. Dockery’s script is so meticulously crafted, composed with such wit, and written with such naturalistic cadence in mind that it is almost impossible to tear your attention away. As you can imagine, there’s much more to the conversation than a performance review—a possible infidelity, family legacy, and technology—but Dockery’s language has a fluidity to it that is lightning-fast yet easy to follow. It helps that Broaddus and Dockery have a natural chemistry to their animosity; they speak to, at, and over one another with such fastidious rhythm that the rapport between the actors is obvious, even if the characters have it out for one another. As the lawyers’ game of cat-and-mouse expands and escalates, Dockery’s script masterfully turns the tide one way and then doubles back as the men cordially struggle for power through professional conduct and conversation that peels back ever so carefully. The precision of every artist involved here is mesmerizing to behold. It’s a breathtaking hour of theatre—and you’ll undoubtedly want more where it came from.

THEN, EVE (Renaissance Theatre Company)

Written, Staged, and Performed by Billie Jane

Among the glitz and glamor of the Disco Boots set at the Renaissance Theatre Company, Billie Jane stands immaculate in white linen as the first woman, telling a story that you think you know the ending to; and while you might know about the apple, you certainly don’t know what happens before. Eve, enjoying the splendor of the newly created world, encounters scores of animals (and lots of beetles) to name; but when her Best Friend Caterpillar makes the transition to Butterfly, Eve’s worldview crumbles, and a whole new life opens up before her. To say more would be to spoil the show. While the massive stage may have otherwise swallowed a one-woman show, Jane makes excellent use of it; an essential victory for her, given the broad width of the space. (One wishes for a tad more of a technical element here: there’s no music, sound design, or use of the massive screens on stage.) Jane’s script is based upon a fascinating conceit. Some editing could be worthwhile—it occasionally takes the scenic route to get to the point, and some sections feel artificially extended for runtime. While these things may be true, THEN, EVE is still a defiant shout in the face of transgender persecution. It’s an incredibly daring and surprisingly apt choice to utilize source material so often associated with that bigotry to tell this story. In her exploration of disillusionment with a higher power, Jane uncovers a crisis of faith that everyone can identify with at one point or another. Despite the announcement of the intended moral, it’s still easy to take away much more than that from the beatific conclusion.

DOLLEY. F***ING. MADISON. (Ten10 Brewing)

New Generation Theatrical

While it’s not the Battle of Gettysburg or the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the 1814 Burning of Washington was an exclamation mark on the War of 1812 as it neared its conclusion. While President James Madison was in Maryland, his wife, Dolley, was in the White House, attempting to gather important historical artifacts and safely get them out before the British arrived. At Ten10 Brewing, we’re brought into the White House on that very night, with a firecracker starring performance by Hannah McGinley Lemasters as the gregarious North Carolinian First Lady sporting a twang to rival any banjo. DOLLEY F***ING MADISON is a speculative look into what may have happened when British soldiers came knocking. While Lemasters commands much of the stage (and much of the script), this is still very much an ensemble piece with Vanessa Sotomayor as her housemaid, Pearl, and Robie Phillips (a capable swing performance on Thursday night) and Brandon Roberts as British soldiers come to desecrate the capital. The research done in the writing of the script must have been a large undertaking; it is quick, it is funny, and it is whip-smart. Dolley stops the soldiers from burning the house down and congenially invites them to dine; this is, as she tells us, her job—to host parties so that things can actually get done. Over some fine Kentucky bourbon, the conversation swings from British versus American, to men versus women, to monarchy versus democracy; and as the “ideological prattle” carries on, the hard-drawn lines between the Americans and the Brits are softened, providing some very impressive character growth for a single hour and ending with a particularly heated conclusion. Over 200 years after the events depicted, DOLLEY F***ING MADISON serves as a hilarious but historic look at what simple diplomacy—and more women in positions of power—could do for the world at large.

PRIVATE PARTS: THE SECRETS WE KEEP (Ten10 Brewing)

Upon entry for PRIVATE PARTS: THE SECRETS WE KEEP, Joanna Rannelli is not backstage, or even waiting in the wings—she’s right there, welcoming audience members in for the show. (We chatted briefly about what part of Canada she’s from.) This affable, personal introduction to the star of the show is perfectly in line with how the rest of the hour goes: no pretense, no veneer. As PRIVATE PARTS begins, it seems as though it’s about to veer into stand-up comedy territory. But this illusion is quickly dissipated when Rannelli gets into the concept of secrets, asking the audience how many are keeping a secret for someone else, or how many are keeping a persona secret that they’d keep at any cost. (No surprise, most people are hiding something of the sort.) But her point isn’t just about secrets that we keep from other people. What about secrets that our bodies keep from us? Or secrets that we keep from ourselves? Or secrets that we will never gain access to? Do we even want to know some of them? There’s a motherlode there, and Rannelli makes us consider all of this within ourselves as she lays her own secrets—and the search for revelations—in a raw, understated hour. There’s no yelling or screaming at the injustices of her life; just illustrative reenactments, tearful analysis, and an honest disposition. Secret? It’s no surprise that this show already has a litany of accolades—it’s earned them.

SINNERS Joins Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Resort

This fall, fans will be able to experience Club Juke in a whole new way. Following the massive success of the 2025 music-driven vampire film, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Sinners will join Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights with a new themed haunted house experience.

Beginning Friday, August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and Thursday, September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood, visitors can immerse themselves in Sinners with a new Halloween Horror Nights house featuring elements from the film.

The haunted house "will transport guests back in time to the popular Club Juke where they will quickly realize that nothing is as it seems when nefarious, red-eyed vampires Remmick, Bert and Joan appear with their insatiable hunger. As they attempt to evade the vampires at every turn, fans will encounter some of their favorite characters lifted straight from the film, including Sammie, Mary, Annie, Pearline and Cornbread. Caught in a deadly struggle between twins Smoke and Stack and the bloodthirsty vampires, guests must survive the night – because the terror will only relent once the sun rises."

Since debuting in 2025, Sinners has become the highest-grossing original horror film, garnering a record-breaking 16 Academy Award nominations and four Oscar wins. Written, directed, and produced by Ryan Coogler, the film takes place in the 1930s Mississippi Delta, where twin brothers Smoke and Stack return to their hometown to open a juke joint for their community. Celebration turns to panic as a troupe of unrelenting vampires crashes the opening night, threatening to violently curse the guests in a brutal battle for survival.

“It’s been incredible to see audiences connect with Sinners in such a powerful way,” said Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, producers of Sinners and founders of Proximity Media, in a joint statement. “Now, partnering with Halloween Horror Nights gives fans the chance to step even deeper into the world of the film — to feel the music, the atmosphere and the tension all around them. Watching it come to life on this scale has been really special for all of us.”

This year, the Universal Studios Hollywood event runs for a record 42 nights with 8 haunted houses, Terror Tram, multiple scare zones and more. Tickets include General Admission, the Early Access Ticket, which provides entry to select haunted houses beginning at 5:30 p.m. (subject to change), Frequent Fear Pass and Ultimate Fear Pass, which enables guests repeated access to the experience. The Day/Night Ticket, After 2 P.M. Day/Night Ticket, Universal Express Ticket and R.I.P Tour will all include access to the new “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” coaster. Halloween Horror Nights returns for its 35th year in Orlando, running 48 select nights from August 28 through November 1. The event will feature 10 all-new haunted houses, outrageous live entertainment, terrifying scare zones and street experiences – with a few haunting surprises.
