Shereen Ahmed to Host 'Acting the Song' Masterclass for High Schoolers at Westport Country Playhouse

Westport Country Playhouse's Masterclass Series will present “Acting the Song,” geared toward high schoolers, on Sunday, June 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Playhouse's Smilow Lounge, mezzanine level.

“Acting the Song” is a hands-on masterclass focused on bringing songs to life through acting. Led by Broadway actor and teaching artist Shereen Ahmed, this session will guide students in connecting emotionally to their material, making clear storytelling choices, and deepening their performance presence.

Designed for high school-aged performers, this interactive class includes a group warm-up, a focused mini-lesson on “acting the song,” small group collaboration, and the opportunity for select students to receive direct coaching with a live accompanist. The session concludes with a Q&A, offering valuable insight into the craft and process. Every participant will be asked to prepare a song of their choice in advance and bring a copy of the sheet music to class.

Shereen Ahmed

Shereen Ahmed is a Broadway and international performing artist whose work spans the world's most iconic stages. She made her Broadway debut in the Lincoln Center Theater production of “My Fair Lady” and headlined the national tour as Eliza Doolittle, which earned her a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle nomination. Her Off-Broadway credits include Franca in “The Light in the Piazza” at City Center Encores! and Adele in Classic Stage Company's “A Man of No Importance.” She originated the role of Ellen in the world premiere of “The Age of Innocence” at The Old Globe. Ahmed has headlined the Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Ceremony in Cairo, performed for President Biden at the White House on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, and starred as Joan Fletcher in “Strike Up the Band” and Iolanthe in Gilbert and Sullivan's “Iolanthe” at Carnegie Hall. On screen, she has appeared on “Law & Order: SVU,” NBC's “New Amsterdam,” and PBS's “Eyes of the World” with the Boston Pops. Named one of 40 Under 40 accomplished Arab Americans in the US and profiled in Vogue Arabia, Ahmed was also a guest speaker at the United Nations, and is a global ambassador for Education for Employment. She holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Towson University. Ahmed will appear in Westport Country Playhouse's production of “Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” in July. @shereen_ahmed

LITTLE BEAR RIDGE ROAD

The theater's 41st season launches in October of 2026 with LITTLE BEAR RIDGE ROAD by Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale). Set on the remote edge of a small Idaho town, this gripping new play reunites a razor-tongued aunt and her long-estranged nephew, when circumstances suddenly force them back into each other's lives. With a crumbling house to sell and years of unresolved history between them, sparks fly, tempers flare, and buried wounds resurface. Bitingly funny and quietly explosive, Little Bear Ridge Road explores the complicated, deeply human urge to reach across the void that separates us, even when doing so threatens to break us open. Little Bear Ridge Road runs October 8 - November 8, 2026.

TOPDOG/UNDERDOG

The season continues with a production of TOPDOG/UNDERDOG, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Suzan-Lori Parks. Celebrating 25 years since its groundbreaking premiere off-Broadway, Topdog/Underdog remains one of the most powerful and provocative works in American theater. This darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity tells the story of two brothers, Lincoln and Booth, names given to them as a joke by their father. Haunted by the past and their obsession with the street con game three-card monte, the brothers navigate ambition, dreams, rivalry, and deep family secrets to uncover the surprising truths that have shaped their lives. This production will run February 4 - March 7, 2027.

THE LEHMAN TRILOGY

The third play in TWH's 26/27 season will be both intimate and epic: THE LEHMAN TRILOGY by Stefano Massini, adapted by Ben Power. Three brothers. One Dream. An empire that would change the world. On a cold September morning in 1844, a young man from Bavaria steps on to a New York dock dreaming of a new life in America. Soon his two brothers join him—and an American epic begins. Spanning two centuries of family history, the play traces the humble beginnings, extraordinary successes, and eventual collapse of the financial institution that would help bring the global economy to its knees. In this theatrical tour de force, three actors bring more than a century and a half of ambition, triumph, and tragedy vividly to life. The Lehman Trilogy received universal critical acclaim, and won the Tony Award for Best Play. This production will run April 1 - May 2, 2027.

BOTH by Paloma Nozicka, will run June 3 - July 3, 2027. In the CT premiere of this exciting new play, Xochi is dealing with a lot. A difficult pregnancy, a new relationship, and the strain of navigating life within her close-knit Mexican American family who is still grappling with the disappearance of her twin brother more than a year ago. As she struggles to keep her footing, the impossible happens—Sebastian suddenly returns. Her family is overjoyed, but Xochi is not so sure. Where has he been? And why does this version of her brother feel so different from the one she remembers? Haunting, funny, and deeply moving, Both explores the fragile bonds of family, the persistence of memory, and the unsettling question of which truths we choose to believe. Paloma and TWH are recipients of the Joyce C. Willis Equity in the Arts Award from the Roberts Foundation for the Arts.

73 SECONDS

TWH's 41st season concludes with 73 SECONDS, written and performed by multimedia artist Jared Mezzocchi (TWH: Circus Fire, Sandra). Running August 3 - August 29, 2027, Jared shares the true story of his relationship with his mother after she is invited by NASA to go into outer space. What begins as a personal inquiry becomes a far-reaching exploration of family, memory, and the ways we deal with catastrophe. Using analog technology from the 1980s to create a live documentary, this inventive new work asks how we piece together the past, especially when it resists being remembered. The World Premiere of 73 Seconds was commissioned and produced by En Garde Arts.

The Connecticut Theatre Exchange will present a reading of O’Neill Music Theatre Conference Semi-Finalist, Venice Island Performing Arts Finalist, and Vineyard Arts Shortlist selection new musical, “You Are Mine,” by award-winning playwright and television writer Susan Cinoman, based on the music of Singer/Songwriter Maia Sharp, directed by acclaimed director Nelson Eusebio, featuring Nora Fox, Jaypee Macapugay, Adamaris Lopez, Raymond J. Lee, Emilie Roberts, and Sean Hannon, with musical direction by Sarah Fay and arrangements by Zev Burrows, at 4:00 PM at the Thomas Perakos Arts and Community Center on the campus of The Frederick Gunn School.

“You Are Mine” is a new musical about Maryanne, the seemingly in-control hostess at the suburban Copper Door bar and restaurant, trapped by the memory of her former obsession Tracy, an uptown sophisticate, while Dani, the down-to-earth local Subaru dealer, is on her way to Maryanne for a first date. Hearts are broken and the wages are minimum in this relatable love story about friendship, love, and taking the risk to let go and start again.

“Small exchanges make a big impact is our guiding idea at the Exchange. Presenting Susan’s first musical, a collaboration with the talented Maia Sharp, is an exciting project to support,” said Artistic Directors Tracy Liz Miller and Kent Burnham.

HOT SUMMER NIGHTS to Return at Music Theatre of Connecticut with 2026 Lineup

Music Theatre of Connecticut has announced the return of its summer performance series, MTC's Hot Summer Nights. As audiences await the start of the 40th MainStage Season in September, MTC is here to keep you entertained until then with award-winning local, NYC, and Broadway talent on select Saturday nights at 8pm from June through August.

The series opens June 20 with Frank Mastrone & Friends, featuring an ensemble of acclaimed performers including jazz vocalist Richard “Cookie” Thomas, singer and guitarist Dodie Petit (original cast of The Phantom of the Opera), violinist Darwin Shen, and a full band led by Mathew Stolfi. The evening highlights Broadway favorites, American Songbook standards, and classic hits by artists such as The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and Don McLean.

On July 11, John Arden Music Dueling Pianos delivers a high-energy, interactive night of sing-along favorites featuring music by Billy Joel, Elton John, and The Beatles, along with dueling piano staples including “Piano Man,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “Don't Stop Believin'.”

On July 18, S'Wonderful with Christine Andreas offers a sophisticated evening of music from Gershwin, Berlin, Bacharach, Lerner, Rodgers & Hart, and other icons of the Great American Songbook, performed by the acclaimed Broadway and cabaret artist.

The series continues August 1 with Nic & Desi: Broadway to Hollywood, starring Nicolas Dromard and Desiree Davar. The duo brings powerhouse vocals and choreography to a celebration of Broadway and classic Hollywood musicals. Both artists are MTC alumni, returning to the stage where Nicolas appeared in The Last Five Years and Desiree in Cabaret, after careers spanning Broadway productions including Wicked, Jersey Boys, Mary Poppins, West Side Story, and Peter Pan.

On August 8, Katona & Kittredge: Key Changes brings together Ann Kittredge and Raissa Katona Bennett for an evening of storytelling through song, featuring selections from Broadway, pop, and the Great American Songbook. Katona Bennett is a Norwalk native and Broadway's Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, with additional credits including Cats and Parade, while Kittredge's Broadway work includes A Christmas Carol and the original cast of King David.

The series concludes August 15 with Cracks and All by Randye Kaye, a one-woman storytelling performance developed at MTC. The show explores themes of resilience, imperfection, and humor through personal narrative. Kaye is a WSHU Public Radio host, voice actor, author of Happier Made Simple and Ben Behind His Voices, and co-host of the podcast Schizophrenia: Three Moms in the Trenches.

ENDURING SPIRIT Art Exhibit to Open at The Gallery on Grant

The Gallery on Grant will present Enduring Spirit, a new exhibition featuring paintings by Toby Bergman and sculptures by Bunnye Levi. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, July 12, at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal Park, New Jersey.

The opening reception for Enduring Spirit will take place from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the gallery, located inside the Axelrod Performing Arts Center. Bergman will also offer a brief discussion of her work during the event.

The exhibition features two distinct series of paintings by Bergman. One is an 11-piece collection of black-and-white works inspired by Roman Vishniac's pre-Holocaust photographs. The second explores the spiritual role of the Kohanim and Leviim through a series of vibrant paintings. Together, the works reflect on collective memory while examining the enduring spirit of the Jewish people.

An oil painter based in Lakewood, Bergman said her medium allows her to "soften, layer and blur, and capture the subtle values within a face." Through gesture, light, and color, she seeks to uncover the stories within her subjects and invite viewers to pause, connect, and reflect.

The exhibition also includes five sculptures by Bunnye Levi, who lived in Baltimore from 1937 to 2012. Levi studied sculpture with artist Reuben Kramer during the 1960s and worked in a variety of materials, including wire and polished marble.

Among the featured works are Circus, a wire sculpture inspired by Levi's lifelong fascination with the circus and movement, and Paths Taken, a polished marble sculpture reflecting life's choices, including her roles as a wife, mother, and artist.

Randye Krupnick, curator and art director of the Gallery on Grant, described Enduring Spirit as "a museum-like experience" that highlights both Bergman's paintings and Levi's sculptural achievements.

"The viewer will become engrossed in the detail and powerful expressions of the subjects in Toby Bergman's paintings," said Krupnick. "In fact, the viewer will want to explore further the story behind each painting."

1776 to Open at Ivoryton Playhouse Starring Broadway's Mark Aldrich

Ivoryton Playhouse will continue its summer season with the Tony Award-winning musical 1776, starring Broadway's Mark Aldrich (My Fair Lady, Disney's Newsies: The Musical, Ragtime). The production begins with a first preview on Thursday, June 25, officially opens on Friday, June 26, and runs through Sunday, July 26 at Ivoryton Playhouse, located at 103 Main Street in Ivoryton, Connecticut.

With music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, 1776 brings one of the most consequential moments in American history to the stage with humor, urgency, and heart. Set in the sweltering summer of 1776, the musical follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and the members of the Continental Congress as they struggle to agree on the bold and dangerous act of declaring independence from Great Britain.

Far from a dusty history lesson, 1776 is a lively, human, and often surprisingly funny look at the complicated people behind the founding of the United States. The musical captures the heated debates, clashing personalities, political bargaining, and moral contradictions that shaped the birth of a nation.

“1776 reminds us that American democracy was never simple, quiet, or inevitable,” said Ben Hope, Executive Producer at Ivoryton Playhouse. “It was argued into existence by imperfect people facing enormous pressure, and that makes the story feel not only historic, but incredibly alive.”

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, 1776 has remained a favorite of audiences for generations, thanks to its rich characters, stirring score, sharp wit, and timely questions about leadership, compromise, courage, and the cost of freedom.

Director Kenn McLaughlin says, “The greatest gift 1776 gives us is to make these men deeply human [alongside] powerful debates on race, the threat of civil rebellion, the leverage of popular media, a megalomaniacal leader, economic uncertainty, unpopular war, and fear of change; this is the story of 1776.”

Ivoryton Playhouse's production offers a grand-scale event seldom seen in its intimate, historic venue. Featuring 26 professional actors, 8 orchestra members, and 8 design team members, the founding fathers will be vividly brought to life in a production designed to enchant and entertain.

MUTTS GONE NUTS to Come to Westport Country Playhouse Family Festivities Series

Westport Country Playhouse Family Festivities Series will host the world's most-talented four-legged performers in the comedy dog spectacular, “Mutts Gone Nuts,” on Sunday, June 21, at 4 p.m.

The all-star lineup includes dog trainer Alexandra Côté from “America's Got Talent,” and a host of amazing dogs that will dance, prance, flip, and skip their way right into your heart. Also on the bill is international funny man, Hilby the Skinny German Juggle Boy, with spellbinding juggling tricks combining superb technical skill and wacky comedy in the tradition of vaudeville. The Washington Post deemed the show a “must-see.”

Tickets are $40. Running time is approximately 90 minutes including a 15-minute intermission.

Directed by Kevin Pelkey of Prospect, the play focuses on Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old math whiz on the autism spectrum who lives in Swindon, England. When he discovers that his neighbor's dog has been killed with a garden fork, he sets out to solve the mystery of the crime. Inspired by his love of logic and detective stories, Christopher interviews neighbors and gathers clues which uncovers secrets that go far beyond the dog's death -- secrets that send him on a journey alone to London.

The play earned industry awards for both the London and New York productions including 5 Tony Awards on Broadway. The cast includes four principal players: Cait Farrell and Matt Simmons, both of Milford who portray Christopher's parents; Savannah Hall of Darien as Christopher and Alicia James of Guilford as Christopher's teacher.

Westport Country Playhouse will present “Get Happy!,” a concert celebrating the legendary entertainer Judy Garland, on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. The show was nominated for BroadwayWorld's San Diego 2021 Regional Awards for Best Cabaret/Concert/Solo Performance.

Artist, creator, and producer Jenna Pastuszek will sing music from “The Wizard of Oz,” “Easter Parade,” “Judy Live at Carnegie Hall,” “Judy at The Palace,” “The Judy Garland Show,” and more, along with sharing personal stories about Garland. Musical supervisor is Joshua Zecher-Ross. Pastuszek returns to the Playhouse after starring last year in “Me, Myself & Barbra,” a retrospective of Barbra Streisand's music.

Jenna Pastuszek is an acclaimed performer who has graced stages nationwide. BroadwayWorld Launches Producer Fantasy Game

Ever watched the weekly Broadway grosses roll in and thought you could pick the winners? Now you can put it to the test. BroadwayWorld has launched the Producer Fantasy Game, a free, season-long competition that lets theatre fans build a roster of Broadway shows and earn points based on how those productions actually perform at the box office. The draft window is open now.

How It Works

The setup is simple. During the draft window, you pick any six Broadway productions that opened this season. Drafting is non-exclusive, so there is no need to race a rival for a hot title. Any number of players can roster the same show.

From there, your shows go to work for you. Every week, each production on your roster earns fantasy points based on its reported box office grosses and capacity percentages. When Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle nominations and wins are announced, your shows bank bonus points on top of that. And each week you can answer our Fantasy Forecast prediction questions for up to five bonus points per correct call.

Weekly Scoring

Each week, a show earns one base point for every $50,000 it grosses, so a $1 million week is worth 20 base points. On top of that, shows can earn bonuses: up to five points for filling seats (based on how close to full capacity the house ran), six points for grossing $2 million or more (or three points for grossing between $1 million and $2 million), and eight points if its gross jumped at least 15 percent from the week before. A show loses four points if its gross dropped at least 15 percent. If a show goes dark and reports no gross for a week, it scores zero for that week with no penalty.

The Fantasy Forecast

The Producer Fantasy Game is really two games in one. The first is the box office game: drafting shows and earning points from their weekly grosses and awards. The second is the Fantasy Forecast, a weekly set of prediction questions about what's happening on Broadway, where each correct answer is worth up to five points. You can play one or both.

We track them separately so you can shine at either. Your Producer score covers the box office game, your Forecast score covers your prediction results, and your Combined score adds the two together for the overall championship ranking. The leaderboard lets you toggle between Overall, Producers, and Forecasters, so a sharp predictor can top the Forecasters board even during a rough season for their roster, and a roster powerhouse can lead the Producers board without answering a single question.

Managing Your Roster

Your lineup stays at six shows all season, and you have plenty of room to maneuver. You get one free drop every week, three additional season drops to use anytime before the trade deadline, and free replacements whenever a show on your roster closes. New productions open throughout the season and become available the moment they start reporting grosses, so it pays to keep a transaction in your pocket for that buzzy new opening.

Pantochino Productions has announced its 2026-27 season including two new musicals and the return of a holiday favorite. Co-producers Jimmy Johansmeyer and Bert Bernard, founders of the company in 2010, will return to the stage at Milford Arts Council, The MAC for all four productions.

“The season is a reflection of our mission to entertain, engage and enrich audiences with an array of original, affordable musical theatre,” said Bernardi. “It's an exciting line-up with something for everyone,” added Johansmeyer.

Pantochino will open its season in October with the new musical, The Real Housewives of Sleepy Hollow with book and lyrics by Bernardi and music by composer Justin Rugg. The show is a wildly funny and unlikely mash-up of the popular reality television phenomenon and Washington Irving's class legend. “We're seeing the story of Ichabod Crane, Katrina Van Tassel and of course the Headless Horsemen” through the eyes of the outspoken housewives—this will be a blast,” explains Bernardi. Performances are October 9 through 25.

For the holidays, the company will revive it's award-winning, signature ‘panto' musical, Christmas Carol, the Panto, which debuted in 2022. Dubbed ‘A five-star entertainment—one of the best musicals of the year' by Connecticut Critics Circle member Jim Ruocco, the Bernardi & Rugg creation won seven Broadway World Connecticut Awards including Best Musical and Best New Work. This effervescent retelling of the Dickens classic is chock full of sight gags, one-liners and fast paced fun. The musical also features the unpredictable merriment of Victoria Sautee in a special cameo role. The show plays December 4 through 20.

Pantochino's acclaimed Teen Theatre company will present Urinetown, the Musical by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis. The satirical musical comedy is set in a dystopian future where a water shortage has led to a totalitarian regime controlling public rest rooms. The hilarious tale of love, corruption, greed and revolution will be performed by a cast of local young actors as part of Pantochino's immersive Teen Theatre program. Performances are February 26-28, 2027.

In April, Pantochino debuts At This Performance, a new musical farce by Bernardi & Rugg. Set in the dressing room of a Broadway theatre, the curtain is about to rise on the most talked-about show of the season. But the legendary leading lady is missing. In the tradition of theatre, the show must go on inciting a series of hilarious, outrageous and side-splitting antics. “This is purely Pantochino,” said Bernardi. “I can't wait for audiences to see it,” he added. The show plays April 23 through May 9, 2027.

Tickets for all performances will be on sale August 1, 2026.

Milford Arts Council's (the MAC) Eastbound Theatre will host a Question & Answer panel on autism spectrum disorder in conjunction with their upcoming production of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Simon Stephens, adapted from the award-winning novel by Mark Haddon.

The Q&A session will take place right after the 2 pm Sunday matinee on June 14 at the MAC, 40 Railroad Avenue S. in Milford.

Cait Farrell, a Special Education Coordinator/Kindergarten Special Education Teacher at Achievement First Bridgeport Academy who plays Christopher's mother and Nyya Bak, a performer on the spectrum who is featured in the production, will be joined by a social worker who specializes in addressing children with special needs. They will discuss Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a neurological and developmental condition that affects communication, interaction, learning, and behavior.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time focuses on Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old with ASD who is from Swindon, England. His plan to find out who killed his neighbor's dog leads him beyond simple detective work into family secrets and a journey alone to London. The panel, moderated by Mark Lambeck of Stratford, will examine how Christopher's behavior challenges his family, teachers and those in authority who struggle to communicate with him.

The matinee audience is invited to stay for this free discussion which is open to the public. The show runs June 12 through June 27, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. Blau House Added to Connecticut State Register of Historic Places

Blau House & Gardens has announced that the Blau House—a Mid-Century Modern residence designed by renowned stage set and theater designer Ralph Alswang—has been listed on the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places by the Connecticut Historic Preservation Council.

The listing recognizes the home's architectural significance, its ties to Westport's mid-20th-century creative community, and the extraordinary garden landscape cultivated over fifty years by advertising entrepreneur Barry Blau.

The listing was made possible in part by a Survey and Planning Grant awarded by the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The grant funded the completion of the professional documentation necessary for State Register consideration.

“This listing is a milestone not only for Blau House & Gardens, but for the entire Westport community,” said Robert Cohen, chair and co-founder of the nonprofit organization. “It honors this rare example of ‘Carpenter Modern' design and the surrounding landscape so that they can be preserved and enjoyed by the public for generations.”

Built in 1962, the Blau House blends modern architecture, New England barn vernacular, and Alswang's theatrical stagecraft sensibilities—creating a home with framed vistas that connect to its wooded ridgetop landscape. One defining feature is a vast glass staircase wall, positioned exactly where paired sliding doors would open on the side of an English barn. Today the house and gardens stand as an example of Westport's mid-20th century creative community.

With growing educational and cultural programs, garden tours, and ongoing preservation work, Blau House & Gardens invites the Westport community to visit, engage, and help steward this remarkable cultural asset in perpetuity.

THE PROM Musical Audition Workshop to Be Held by Little Theatre of Manchester

Little Theatre of Manchester will host a musical audition workshop for performers preparing to audition for THE PROM.

The workshop will take place Sunday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to noon and will be led by members of the production's creative team, including the director, music director, and choreographer.

Participants will receive guidance on preparing for musical theatre auditions, including selecting audition material, choosing appropriate attire, and presenting themselves effectively in the audition room. The workshop will also cover how to prepare sheet music and collaborate with an audition pianist.

Additional topics will include strategies for learning choreography during auditions and practical tips for navigating dance calls.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a mock audition using a prepared song and receive real-time feedback from the creative team.

Participants are encouraged to arrive on time and wear clothing suitable for movement during the choreography portion of the workshop.

Capital Classics Theatre Company's 2026 Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival will feature two productions performed in repertory: the dark comedy Measure for Measure performed in repertory with the magical A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The alternating productions, which will each be performed ten times, is set to run Wednesday, July 8 through Sunday, August 2, 2026, outdoors on the campus of the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford.

The cast and creatives for the 2026 Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival have been announced with many returning favorites and new faces. Most will be doing double-duty appearing in both Measure for Measure and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival stage is set up directly in front of the Bruyette Atheneum on the campus of the University of Saint Joseph located at 1678 Asylum Avenue in West Hartford. In the event of inclement weather, the production moves inside the university's Bruyette Atheneum.

Performances are preceded by festival entertainment and opportunities to visit food vendors, the merchandise table, and exhibits in the University of Saint Joseph's Art Gallery. Called away on a mysterious diplomatic mission, Duke Vincentio places his puritanical and despotic deputy Angelo in charge of Vienna. Seizing the reins of power, Angelo sentences Claudio to death when it is discovered that Claudio's fiancee is with child out of wedlock. When novice nun Isabella, who is also Claudio's sister, begs for mercy for her brother, Angelo agrees to a pardon — in exchange for her chastity. Unbeknownst to everyone, Vincentio has disguised himself as a friar to observe his deputy's nefarious misdeeds. Can Claudio be saved and Isabella's virtue preserved in time? In this dark and still-timely comedy, Shakespeare tackles the intersections of political power, morality, religious hypocrisy, love, and sex.

Among Shakespeare's most beloved and fantastical comedies, A Midsummer Night's Dream is rightly a perennial favorite for a midsummer night performance! Outside of Athens, a magical woodland kingdom finds four runaway lovers, a traveling troupe of bungling actors, and a mischievous company of fairies set on a collision course. In true Shakespearean fashion, identities get scrambled, affections get misdirected, and merry mix-ups abound. Drama Works Theatre of Old Saybrook will continue it's 2026 season with The Aliens by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker. Directed by Patrick Barry, the production opens June 19th with performances through June 28th, 2026.

In The Aliens, two friends, Jasper and KJ, spend their days in the alley behind a Vermont coffee shop discussing music and philosophy. When a lonely high-school student arrives on the scene, they decide to teach him everything they know. The play, which includes songs, is a funny and at times tender look at life and friendship. Playwright Annie Baker's other works include The Flick and Circle Mirror Transformation. The cast features Dan Anderson (Jasper), Nicholas Perry (KJ), and Dylan Morin (Evan).

MEASURE UP Musical to Have World Premiere at Revolutionary Theatre

The first ever full production of Emmy-winning composer/lyricist Sean P. Pallatroni and bookwriter Ellis Gage's fractured fairytale musical MEASURE UP will take place at Connecticut's premiere educational drama program, Revolutionary Theatre - founded and run by TONY Nominee and EMMY winner Mark Mazzarella.

MEASURE UP was originally commissioned in 2024 for a workshop by students at NYC's award-winning acting studio A Class Act NY. It tells the story of a fairytale princess whose perfectionistic life's trajectory is threatened when she realizes she cannot fit into the sacred generations-old dress that her kingdom, per their superstitious tradition, demands she wear in order to inherit the crown. We follow her pursuit of dark magic as a means to alter her body to fit into the dress and fulfill her prescribed destiny. The piece aims to examine the real-world themes of unhealthy behavior in service of society's standards (non-explicitly, the theme of restrictive eating disorders) & the journey to self love through a comedic, fantastical adventure story and whacky-but-catchy Jazz-oriented score. Gage and Mazzarella will co-direct and Pallatroni will music direct.

The cast of students will include Alexis Baez, Norah Beauchemin, Maddie Clayton, Shannon Filon, Madison Howe, William Jackson, Daniel Loubier, Brendan McGillicuddy, Leah Mirambeaux, Michela Paul, Isabella Purcell, Angela Rodriguez, Jullia Rozmajzi, Savannah Yvonne Sullivan, Megan Toth, and Angel T. West. Performances will take place July 23 - 25.
