Jacksonville Symphony Extends President & CEO Steven B. Libman's Contract Through 2031

The Jacksonville Symphony has extended the contract of President & CEO Steven B. Libman through June 30, 2031. Under the agreement, Libman will continue to lead the Symphony's strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, music education, operations and financial management functions.

Following the completion of the contract, Libman plans to retire after more than four decades of distinguished leadership in the performing arts. As part of the extension, he will work closely with the Board of Directors during his final year to support the search and transition process for his successor, helping ensure continuity of leadership and a seamless transition for the organization.

Since joining the Jacksonville Symphony on February 1, 2020 Libman has guided the organization through a period of significant financial and institutional growth while supporting an era of continued artistic success. Under his leadership, the Symphony has strengthened its financial position, expanded philanthropic support, enhanced community engagement and reinforced its reputation as one of the leading cultural institutions in Northeast Florida.

"During my time as Board Chair, I have seen firsthand the impact of Steven's leadership on the Jacksonville Symphony," said Matt Marcin. "His commitment to organizational growth, financial stability and artistic excellence has strengthened the Symphony in meaningful ways. We are thrilled that he will continue leading the organization through 2031 and grateful for his commitment to ensuring a thoughtful transition for the next generation of leadership."

A nationally respected arts executive with more than 40 years of leadership experience, Libman has built a distinguished career leading major orchestras, ballet companies, theaters and performing arts centers across the country. Throughout his career, he has raised more than $350 million in philanthropic support while developing innovative approaches to strategic planning, fundraising, branding, audience development and institutional growth.

At the Jacksonville Symphony, Libman oversees a $15 million operating budget and a $35 million endowment while leading an organization that serves more than 180,000 people annually through performances, music education and community engagement initiatives. Under his leadership, the Symphony has expanded its artistic ambitions, strengthened its financial position, increased philanthropic support and maintained long-term operational stability.

"Steven has helped build a strong financial foundation for the Jacksonville Symphony," said Music Director Courtney Lewis. "His thoughtful leadership and commitment to the organization have contributed significantly to its continued growth and success. I look forward to continuing our partnership in the years ahead as we build upon that momentum and advance the Symphony's mission."

One of Libman's most notable achievements came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he developed and implemented a plan that enabled the Jacksonville Symphony to continue performing safely before more than 38,000 audience members across 72 concerts. The Symphony was one of only ten orchestras in North America to perform in its concert hall during the 2020/21 Season, preserving patron engagement, sustaining the organization's visibility and maintaining its connection to the community during an unprecedented period. During that time, Libman also successfully led efforts that raised more than $5 million for a special Stabilization Campaign.

"Steven's leadership over the last several years has brought stability and innovation to our organization. Securing his commitment through 2031, alongside Music Director Courtney Lewis ensures that our entire organization can continue to thrive," said Todd Lockwood, Acting Principal of the Bass Section and Chair of the Orchestra Committee.

Prior to joining the Jacksonville Symphony, Libman served as Chief Advancement Officer of Atlanta Ballet, where he led a successful $23.5 million capital campaign and oversaw a $5 million annual fund. He also served as the founding President & CEO of the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana, where he helped establish the $200 million performing arts complex as a major regional cultural destination. Earlier leadership positions included Managing Director of the Tony Award-winning La Jolla Playhouse, Managing Director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and executive leadership roles at several prominent performing arts organizations throughout the United States.

The extension provides the Symphony with long-term leadership continuity while establishing a thoughtful succession plan. During the final year of his contract, Libman will work with the Board of Directors to support the search and onboarding process for his successor, helping ensure a smooth transition and continued stability.

Ever watched the weekly Broadway grosses roll in and thought you could pick the winners? Now you can put it to the test. BroadwayWorld has launched the Producer Fantasy Game, a free, season-long competition that lets theatre fans build a roster of Broadway shows and earn points based on how those productions actually perform at the box office. The draft window is open now.

How It Works

The setup is simple. During the draft window, you pick any six Broadway productions that opened this season. Drafting is non-exclusive, so there is no need to race a rival for a hot title. Any number of players can roster the same show.

From there, your shows go to work for you. Every week, each production on your roster earns fantasy points based on its reported box office grosses and capacity percentages. When Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle nominations and wins are announced, your shows bank bonus points on top of that. And each week you can answer our Fantasy Forecast prediction questions for up to five bonus points per correct call.

Weekly Scoring

Each week, a show earns one base point for every $50,000 it grosses, so a $1 million week is worth 20 base points. On top of that, shows can earn bonuses: up to five points for filling seats (based on how close to full capacity the house ran), six points for grossing $2 million or more (or three points for grossing between $1 million and $2 million), and eight points if its gross jumped at least 15 percent from the week before. A show loses four points if its gross dropped at least 15 percent. If a show goes dark and reports no gross for a week, it scores zero for that week with no penalty.

The Fantasy Forecast

The Producer Fantasy Game is really two games in one. The first is the box office game: drafting shows and earning points from their weekly grosses and awards. The second is the Fantasy Forecast, a weekly set of prediction questions about what's happening on Broadway, where each correct answer is worth up to five points. You can play one or both.

We track them separately so you can shine at either. Your Producer score covers the box office game, your Forecast score covers your prediction results, and your Combined score adds the two together for the overall championship ranking. The leaderboard lets you toggle between Overall, Producers, and Forecasters, so a sharp predictor can top the Forecasters board even during a rough season for their roster, and a roster powerhouse can lead the Producers board without answering a single question.

Managing Your Roster

Your lineup stays at six shows all season, and you have plenty of room to maneuver. You get one free drop every week, three additional season drops to use anytime before the trade deadline, and free replacements whenever a show on your roster closes. New productions open throughout the season and become available the moment they start reporting grosses, so it pays to keep a transaction in your pocket for that buzzy new opening.

Draft within the first two weeks of the season and your roster is scored from opening week, so the earlier you get in, the more weeks you bank. As Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates 35 years as one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time, Senbla and SEGA today announced Sonic Live In Concert (www.sonicliveinconcert.com). This new concert experience brings the music and moments of the beloved video games to the stage.

Featuring iconic moments and music from the very first game in 1991 through today, the production will debut in the U.S. at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on September 26, 2026, before making its European premiere at London's Eventim Apollo on September 30. The U.S. tour will visit more than 30 cities nationwide, and a UK tour will follow in February 2027. More European dates will be announced at a later time. Tickets will go on sale May 29, 2026, with pre-sale tickets going on sale on May 28, 2026.

As part of a global rollout celebrating the franchise's milestone anniversary, Sonic Live In Concert features the most recognizable music from the Sonic universe, performed by a live ensemble alongside rock musicians, vocalists, and electronic elements. The historic, nonprofit Florida Theatre held its annual fundraiser, The Florida Theatre Ball: An Evening In The Tropics, presented by DEX Imaging, on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The organization's signature fundraiser raised more than $200,000 in support of the arts and culture in Downtown Jacksonville.

Look up “holiday music” in the dictionary, and it's likely that there is a photo of the nine-person a cappella group Straight No Chaser instead of a standard definition. For more than two decades, the group has provided the soundtrack of the season, bringing millions of fans to their feet while putting them in the holiday spirit. Year after year, fans anxiously await the moment they can officially hit play on Straight No Chaser favorites. And this year is no different.

Straight No Chaser is back on tour, serving up an all-you-can-eat buffet of holiday music (with none of the calories) as they cross the U.S. from October through December.

The nine-man act of Walter Chase, Jerome Collins, Seggie Isho, Michael Luginbill, Steve Morgan, Luke Bob Robinson, Jasper Smith, Tyler Trepp, and Freedom Young has served as a festive blend of harmonious voices for more than two and a half decades, having recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. Based on the book that has sold millions of copies worldwide and a film that is one of the highest-grossing romantic dramas of all-time, the musical adaptation of THE NOTEBOOK played Broadway at the Schoenfeld Theatre from March 2024 to December 2024 following a critically acclaimed world premiere engagement at Chicago Shakespeare Theater in the fall of 2022.

THE NOTEBOOK features music and lyrics by multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and a book by playwright Bekah Brunstetter (writer and producer on NBC's “This Is Us,” The Cake). The production is directed by Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hansen, Next to Normal, RENT) and Schele Williams (Aida, The Wiz), with choreography by Katie Spelman (Associate Choreographer on Moulin Rouge! The Florida Theatre and Outback Presents have announced a second show for Marcello Hernandez on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 9:30 p.m. at the historic Florida Theatre in downtown Jacksonville. Tickets are on sale now for the 9:30 p.m. show. Limited tickets are still available for the 7:00 p.m. show.

Marcello Hernández is a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. With a sharp, energetic style rooted in cultural commentary and observational humor, he quickly gained national attention for his breakout performances and memorable characters. Hernández continues to establish himself as a rising voice in modern comedy.

Hernández did comedy and performed short-form pieces on social media channels, such as the weekly review show Only in Dade about Miami on TikTok. He moved to New York City in 2019 to pursue his stand-up career. In 2022, he was selected for the Just For Laughs New Face of Comedy showcase.

In 2022, he joined the cast of the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, becoming the show's first Gen Z cast member. He is known for playing the recurring characters including “Domingo,” the paramour of Kelsey, a philandering bride; “Grant,” one half of "The Couple You Can't Believe Are Together," who appears on the Weekend Update to give dating advice; “The Movie Guy,” a Weekend Update character who teases upcoming movies before admitting that he has not seen them; and “Joaquín Antonio González Hernández Suárez,” host of The Immigrant Dad Talk Show.

StageMag Launches Programmable PDF Editor for Digital Theater Programs

StageMag, the digital show program platform from BroadwayWorld, today launched its new PDF Editor to all producers and stage managers using the service. The tool gives editors granular, real-time control over how their digital program renders as a downloadable or printable PDF - the format most often used in lobby printouts, accessibility packets, and press kits.

Until now, the StageMag-to-PDF path was a one-shot export: whatever fit, fit. The new editor turns the export into a configurable surface. Each section of a program including the cast list, song list, director's note, bios, advertisements, sponsor pages, articles, listings and more — can be individually told how to paginate. Editors choose between three strategies per section:

Flow: natural pagination, sections may split across pages.
Own page: start the section on a fresh page.
Fit one page: start fresh and scale the section to occupy the whole page.

A live preview pane re-renders the PDF on every change, so editors see the final printed result as they work rather than guessing and re-exporting.Beyond the strategy picker, the editor exposes a set of advanced controls familiar to anyone who has hand-tuned a long-form print document: hide-element selectors (drop sponsor strips or vestigial nav from the print version), forced page breaks before or after named elements, a draggable section-order list, custom header/footer/watermark text, and a custom-CSS escape hatch for theaters whose programs follow a house style.

The release also includes paper-level controls including US Letter or A4, portrait or landscape, three margin presets, three type scales, and a "booklet" mode that adds a binding gutter for stapled lobby printouts.

The PDF Editor is available now to all StageMag-enabled productions at no additional cost, under the Share PDF tab in the program editor. Existing programs render with sensible defaults; the new controls are opt-in and per-production.

Florida Theatre has announced a new lineup of events coming to its Jacksonville venue in 2026 and 2027, featuring country music performances and a special anniversary film screening event.

Country group Lonestar will perform with special guest Katie O on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. Known for hits including “Amazed,” “No News,” and “Come Cryin' to Me,” the band has earned multiple Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association awards and has sold more than 10.5 million records worldwide. Jacksonville-based singer-songwriter Katie O, a former contestant on both The Voice and American Idol, will open the evening.

Country artist Josh Turner will bring his This Country Music Thing Tour to the Florida Theatre on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. The tour supports Turner's tenth studio album and celebrates more than two decades of hits including “Long Black Train,” “Your Man,” “Would You Go with Me,” and “Why Don't We Just Dance.” Turner's latest album, This Country Music Thing, debuted in the Top 10 on the Country Albums chart.

The theater also announced a 40th anniversary screening of The Goonies on Friday, April 2, 2027 at 7:30 p.m., featuring a live conversation with cast members Corey Feldman and Kerri Green. Georgia Teacher Freddie Hendricks Will Receive 2026 Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre Education

Freddie Hendricks, a middle school theatre teacher at Utopian Academy for the Arts in Ellenwood, Ga., is the 2026 winner of the Excellence in Theatre Education Award (EITEA). The award, which has been presented by the Tony Awards in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University since 2014, will be bestowed at the 79th Annual Tony Awards in New York City on Sunday, June 7.

Hendricks is the 10th theatre arts teacher to receive the award. He has been an arts educator for more than 30 years and was an honorable mention for the EITEA in 2023 and 2024.

The EITEA recognizes a K-12 theatre educator in the U.S. who has demonstrated exemplary impact on students’ lives and who embodies the highest standards of the profession. Hendricks will receive $10,000 for Utopian Academy and tickets to The Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall and the gala that follows at Rockefeller Center. His students will also receive a visiting master class taught by CMU Drama professors later this year.

“I am so grateful for this honor. I tell my students, ‘You’re born great. When you find your passion, you’re living in your greatness, and the next step is to be greater,’” Hendricks said. “I found my passion. I believed. I had faith. My mantra is this: ‘Greatness is inevitable when focus marries passion, and the desire is as strong as the need.’”

At Utopian, Hendricks trains students in a “rigorous, ensemble-based program of acting, movement and storytelling.” Their outreach in the community includes partnerships with the NAACP and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center; Hendricks also teaches virtual classes to students based in London, England. He founded the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, a pioneering African American theatre company that helps to empower young artists through socially conscious storytelling. His goal for all students is to help them use theatre as a tool for artistic excellence, leadership and social impact.

Several of Hendricks’ former students have gone on to successful careers on Broadway and in film and television, including two of this year’s Tony Award nominees, Justin Ellington and Kandi Burruss.

The positive effects of the arts touched Hendricks’ personal life, as well. A cancer survivor, he continued working with his students and directing regional shows during his medical journey. Following successful treatment, he returned to Utopian Academy to resume his passion and true love: teaching drama.

“For more than ten years, the presentation of the Excellence in Theatre Education Award has been one of the most memorable moments of our Tony Award ceremony, and this year will be no exception. Freddie embodies everything that this award represents, serving as an inspiration not only to his current class, but to generations of students who have come before,” said Heather Hitchens, President & CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Jason Laks, President of The Broadway League. “It is because of trailblazing teachers like Freddie that this program has continued to grow, and we feel confident in the future of our theatre community knowing that he is on the front lines, shaping the hearts and minds of our young people.”

MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL Will Return to Jacksonville in 2027

The FSCJ Artist Series will present the international hit show Menopause the Musical at the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, February 3, 2027 at 7:30 pm. Menopause The Musical is a celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle of, or have survived “The Change.”

Menopause The Musical has evolved as a "grassroots" movement of women who deal with life adjustments around 40 by embracing each other and the road ahead. What began with 76 women in an Orlando perfume shop-turned-theater laughing, kicklining, and celebrating menopause for the first time became a global movement. The musical shattered the stigma around menopause and turned a once-taboo topic into a badge of honor.

Set in a department store, four women meet while shopping for a black lace bra at a lingerie sale. After noticing similarities among one another, the ladies joke about their woeful hot flashes, mood swings, wrinkles, weight gain, and much more. These women form a sisterhood and a unique bond with the entire audience as they rejoice in celebrating that menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage.” It's the Hilarious Celebration of Women and The Change!

Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, playwright Jeanie Linders created Menopause the Musical to celebrate women at every stage of "The Change." The laughter-filled 90-minute production gets audience members out of their seats and singing along to parodies from classic pop songs of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

The original Menopause The Musical debuted in Orlando, Florida, and ran Off-Broadway for four years, performing for more than 1,500 audiences, followed by a U.S. national tour that is still running today. In 2007, it opened internationally in the United Kingdom and has performed in countries including Australia, South Korea, Brazil, France, Slovenia, and many more. It is also the longest-running musical in Las Vegas history, performing nightly at Harrah's Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Beloved for 25 years and seen by more than 17 million, Menopause The Musical has played every state in the continental U.S., more than 500 cities worldwide, and has been translated into nine languages.

The production's Book and Lyrics are by Jeanie Linders. The creative team includes Director Seth Greenleaf, Music Supervisor and Additional Arrangements Alan J. Review: MORNING AFTER GRACE at Alhambra Theatre & Dining

Recently, during the curtain speech of Damn Yankees at the Alhambra Theatre & Dining, managing partner Craig Smith previewed the theatre’s next production: Morning After Grace. He warned audiences it would be something a little different from the usual Alhambra fare. In his playbill note, Smith elaborates: “Most of the productions you see here are lighthearted, filled with big musical numbers, singing and dancing. This show is a little different.”

That difference is immediately apparent. Morning After Grace leans into real, messy, funny, complicated life. It explores themes of loss, romance, intimacy, and even the occasionally surprising ways families navigate generational differences. Some may call it edgy, but nearly everyone will call it funny.

After such a preface, anticipation was high. Set in a retirement community on Florida’s Suncoast, the story unfolds through three characters: Angus, Abigail, and Ollie.

Kevin Anderson, as Angus, brings an impressive résumé spanning film, television, Broadway, Off-Broadway, London’s West End, and Dublin stages. Yet it’s his quiet, physical performance in the opening moments, before he even speaks, that immediately wins over the audience. The laughter comes quickly, but so does the understanding: this is a story grounded in truth, not spectacle. Anderson’s portrayal is so natural and sincere that the audience can’t help but feel for him.

Opposite him, Hillary Hickam delivers a beautifully balanced performance as Abigail. With decades of experience on stage and screen from New York to Los Angeles, Hickam brings warmth, sharp comedic timing, and emotional depth that perfectly complements her castmates.

While much of the stage time is shared between Angus and Abigail, it is Eugene Lindsey who leaves a lasting emotional impact as Ollie. A Jacksonville native, Lindsey brings both humor and heart to the role, drawing the audience in with a performance that is as touching as it is authentic. His presence adds an additional layer of emotional resonance that lingers well beyond the final moments.

Under the direction of Tod Booth, the production thoughtfully brings Carey Crim’s script to life. Booth and his team strike a careful balance between humor and vulnerability, allowing the story’s more delicate themes to land without losing its sense of joy.

Morning After Grace may step outside the Alhambra’s usual lineup, but it does so with confidence and heart. It’s a reminder that even without big musical numbers or spectacle, a simple, well-told story that is rooted in honesty and humanity can be just as captivating.

Interview: Adam Fields of BEETLEJUICE National Tour

For Adam Fields, returning to Jacksonville with the national tour of Beetlejuice the Musical isn’t just another stop, it’s a full-circle moment. The production will play in Jacksonville from May 12–17 at the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts.

Fields’ journey into theatre didn’t follow a traditional path. After moving to Jacksonville in 2018 just out of high school, he spent time juggling odd jobs and playing college football before discovering an unexpected passion: acting. With no formal training, he dove headfirst into the local arts scene, building experience through community theater companies like Theatre Jacksonville, Orange Park Community Theatre, and Players by the Sea.

“I had never done a show before,” he recalls. “I just started doing the community theater circuit and learning as I went.”

These experiences became the foundation for his future. When the Alhambra Theatre & Dining began casting more local performers during the COVID era, Fields seized the opportunity.

“I didn’t go to school for it,” he says. “But I learned how to rehearse fast, how to know my material right away…it was like a crash course in everything.”

His first professional production at the Alhambra was “It’s a Wonderful Life” and from there he built momentum and credits Jacksonville as the place that made it all possible.

Now, he’s returning home with a major production, performing as part of the FSCJ Artist Series…the very series he once attended as a fan.

“I remember seeing shows like “Wicked” and “Rent” and thinking, I want to be on that stage someday,” he says. “And now I am. It feels surreal.”

This marks his first time performing on the Moran Theater stage, though his younger brother, a student at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, performed there years earlier. “Now it’s my turn,” he adds.

Touring with “Beetlejuice” has been equal parts exhilarating and demanding. As an understudy for multiple roles (including Beetlejuice himself), Fields is responsible for knowing four separate tracks at any given time.

“I’d never understudied before,” he admits. “Now I have to be ready to step into any of these roles at any moment.” Weekly routines of reviewing the material helps him stay sharp.

“You wake up some mornings running lines in your head just in case,” he says. “It’s part of the job.”

Despite the pressure, he describes the experience as deeply rewarding. The cast camaraderie, the travel, and the chance to perform across the country have all made a lasting impact.

“I’ve made great friends and seen parts of the country I never thought I would,” he says. “We even spent a month in California…I can’t complain.”

Though he covers several major roles, his regular onstage appearance is as Otho, a flamboyant and eccentric character who brings comedic energy late in the show.

“He’s basically a fraud…a kind of cult leader,” Fields explains. “And he’s just so fun to play.”

“It really is like being an athlete,” he says, reflecting on his football background. “You have to warm up, stay in shape, and take care of your body.”

Fans of the original film will find plenty of familiar elements in the musical adaptation, but also some updates to make it more current.

“The spirit of the movie is definitely there,” he says. “But the musical puts more focus on Lydia, her story, her relationships, her grief, her growth.”

Songs like “Dead Mom” and “Say My Name” have become standouts and whether audiences come for nostalgia or a fresh theatrical experience, Fields believes the show delivers both.

“It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, and it’s just a great time,” he says. “There’s something for everyone.”

As he prepares to perform for a hometown crowd, his hopes are simple: that audiences show up ready to engage, laugh, and enjoy themselves.

“Come have fun. Be loud. Be part of it,” he says. “That’s what makes this show special.”

For young performers in Jacksonville dreaming of similar paths, his advice is honest and grounded.

“Be lucky. Surround yourself with people who support you. And if you love it, just go all in,” he says. “For me, there was never really another option.”

Six years after stepping into his first community theater role, that leap of faith has carried Adam Fields onto a national stage and back home again.

The Psychedelic Furs are an English rock band founded in London in February 1977. Led by lead vocalist Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler on bass guitar, the Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound to later touching on new wave and hard rock.

The band had several hits in their early career. In 1986, filmmaker John Hughes used their song "Pretty in Pink" for his film of the same name. They went on hiatus after they finished touring in 1992, but resumed in 2000 and continue to perform live. The band released Made of Rain, their first studio album in nearly three decades, on July 31, 2020.

Living Colour is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1984. The band currently consists of guitarist Vernon Reid, lead vocalist Corey Glover, drummer Will Calhoun, and bassist Doug Wimbish (who replaced Muzz Skillings in 1992). Stylistically, their music is a creative fusion influenced by heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip hop, punk, and alternative rock. The band's lyrics range from the personal to the political, including social commentary on racism in the United States.

Living Colour has released six studio albums. The band rose to fame with their debut album Vivid in 1988. Although they scored several hits, Living Colour is best known for their signature song "Cult of Personality," which won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1990.
