It’s almost unbelievable for me to admit that this was my first time seeing The Phantom of the Opera. Of course, I knew the iconic songs and had seen countless clips over the years, but experiencing the production live on stage for the first time was entirely different, haunting, and spine-chilling in the best way possible. From the chandelier drop to the monumental set pieces, the show truly lives up to its legendary reputation. The 2026 tour, directed by Harold Prince, serves as a revitalized version of the original production, featuring Maria Björnson’s iconic designs, musical staging, and choreography by Gillian Lynne. It is absolutely ravishing, and Seattle audiences are lining up hours early to witness the spectacle for themselves.

BroadwayWorld Launches Producer Fantasy Game

Ever watched the weekly Broadway grosses roll in and thought you could pick the winners? Now you can put it to the test. BroadwayWorld has launched the Producer Fantasy Game, a free, season-long competition that lets theatre fans build a roster of Broadway shows and earn points based on how those productions actually perform at the box office. The draft window is open now.

How It Works

The setup is simple. During the draft window, you pick any six Broadway productions that opened this season. Drafting is non-exclusive, so there is no need to race a rival for a hot title. Any number of players can roster the same show.

From there, your shows go to work for you. Every week, each production on your roster earns fantasy points based on its reported box office grosses and capacity percentages. When Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle nominations and wins are announced, your shows bank bonus points on top of that. And each week you can answer our Fantasy Forecast prediction questions for up to five bonus points per correct call.

Weekly Scoring

Each week, a show earns one base point for every $50,000 it grosses, so a $1 million week is worth 20 base points. On top of that, shows can earn bonuses: up to five points for filling seats (based on how close to full capacity the house ran), six points for grossing $2 million or more (or three points for grossing between $1 million and $2 million), and eight points if its gross jumped at least 15 percent from the week before. A show loses four points if its gross dropped at least 15 percent. If a show goes dark and reports no gross for a week, it scores zero for that week with no penalty.

The Fantasy Forecast

The Producer Fantasy Game is really two games in one. The first is the box office game: drafting shows and earning points from their weekly grosses and awards. The second is the Fantasy Forecast, a weekly set of prediction questions about what's happening on Broadway, where each correct answer is worth up to five points. You can play one or both.

We track them separately so you can shine at either. Your Producer score covers the box office game, your Forecast score covers your prediction results, and your Combined score adds the two together for the overall championship ranking. The leaderboard lets you toggle between Overall, Producers, and Forecasters, so a sharp predictor can top the Forecasters board even during a rough season for their roster, and a roster powerhouse can lead the Producers board without answering a single question.

Managing Your Roster

Your lineup stays at six shows all season, and you have plenty of room to maneuver. You get one free drop every week, three additional season drops to use anytime before the trade deadline, and free replacements whenever a show on your roster closes. New productions open throughout the season and become available the moment they start reporting grosses, so it pays to keep a transaction in your pocket for that buzzy new opening.

Draft within the first two weeks of the season and your roster is scored from opening week, so the earlier you get in, the more weeks you bank. A DRAG QUEEN CHRISTMAS to Return for 12th Year With 39-City National Tour

“A Drag Queen Christmas” will return for its 12th year, launching a 39-city national tour this November - December. The 2026 edition is hosted by returning fan favorite and theatre star Nina West, and features an all-new merry lineup of drag superstars from the Emmy-winning RuPaul's Drag Race franchise.

SONIC LIVE IN CONCERT to Launch Global Tour With US and UK Premieres

As Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates 35 years as one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time, Senbla and SEGA today announced Sonic Live In Concert (www.sonicliveinconcert.com). This new concert experience brings the music and moments of the beloved video games to the stage.

Featuring iconic moments and music from the very first game in 1991 through today, the production will debut in the U.S. at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on September 26, 2026, before making its European premiere at London's Eventim Apollo on September 30. The U.S. tour will visit more than 30 cities nationwide, and a UK tour will follow in February 2027. More European dates will be announced at a later time. Tickets will go on sale May 29, 2026, with pre-sale tickets going on sale on May 28, 2026.

As part of a global rollout celebrating the franchise's milestone anniversary, Sonic Live In Concert features the most recognizable music from the Sonic universe, performed by a live ensemble alongside rock musicians, vocalists, and electronic elements. The setlist includes fan-favorite tracks and an incredible array of music from the very first game through to today accompanied by synchronized HD footage of iconic levels, moments and boss battles from the franchise. Audiences can expect musical Easter eggs woven into the arrangements, adding an extra layer of discovery that brings Sonic's world vividly to life on stage.

The concert also highlights the creative legacy behind Sonic's music from legendary composers Jun Senoue and Tomoya Ohtani, whose work has helped define Sonic's sound across generations.

Review: DEAR EVAN HANSEN at Act Up Theatre

Act Up Theatre and Minnesota State University Moorhead present the regional premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen.

Dear Evan Hansen features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with a book by Steven Levenson. The musical follows Evan Hansen, a high school senior struggling with social anxiety who suddenly finds himself at the center of a tragedy and the connections that grow from it.

The show premiered at Arena Stage in 2015 before moving Off-Broadway to Second Stage Theater and eventually opening on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre in 2016. The production went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actor for Ben Platt.

I had the pleasure of attending the final dress rehearsal before opening night. With only around 50 to 75 people in attendance, you would never have guessed it from the thunderous applause that filled the theater throughout the evening.
Director Craig Ellingson and his creative team assembled an outstanding cast to bring this emotional and challenging production to life.

First and foremost is Josiah Gillen as Evan Hansen. I honestly wasn’t sure if Josiah could top his performance as Jesus in Concordia’s recent production of Jesus Christ Superstar, but he may have done exactly that here. Josiah portrayed Evan with remarkable vulnerability and authenticity. His vocals were absolutely stunning, especially during “Waving Through a Window,” “For Forever,” “If I Could Tell Her,” “You Will Be Found,” and “Words Fail.” Beyond the vocals, his acting and stage presence carried the emotional weight of the entire production with confidence and sincerity.

I should also mention that this production features two talented actors alternating in the role of Evan. After seeing Josiah’s performance, I genuinely hope I can return to see Isaiah Jensrud’s interpretation as well.

Liz Wilhelmi delivered an exceptional performance as Heidi Hansen, grounding the production emotionally from beginning to end. Her rendition of “So Big / So Small” was one of the evening’s most powerful moments, beautifully capturing the exhaustion, fear, and unconditional love of a parent doing everything possible to support her child while struggling herself. She also showcased her incredible vocals during “Anybody Have a Map?” and “Good for You.”

I’ve watched Seth Lamont perform since he was a little kid, so seeing him step into what may be his best role to date as Jared Kleinman was an absolute joy. His sarcastic wit provided the perfect comic relief without ever diminishing the emotional stakes of the story. Seth had the audience laughing out loud throughout the performance, particularly during the email-writing scenes with Evan. His vocals stood out prominently during “Sincerely, Me” and “Good for You.”

Whitney McClain gave a beautiful and heartfelt performance as Zoe Murphy. She brought warmth and emotional depth to the role, making Zoe far more than simply Evan’s love interest. Whitney portrayed a young woman wrestling with grief, confusion, and a deeply complicated relationship with her brother Connor. Her vocals on “Requiem” and “You Will Be Found” were absolutely wonderful.

Drew Relling also turned in a tremendous performance as Connor Murphy. Though Connor has limited traditional stage time, Drew made a lasting impression, balancing anger, pain, vulnerability, and emotional intensity throughout the show. His appearances throughout Evan’s imagination served as a constant reminder of the tragedy at the center of the story. He also delivered standout vocal performances during “Disappear” and “Sincerely, Me.”

The Murphy family as a whole added tremendous complexity and emotional weight to the production. Shanna Franzen, as Cynthia Murphy, radiated compassion and grief, making her desperate longing for connection both understandable and heartbreaking. She particularly shined vocally during “Anybody Have a Map?” and “Requiem.” Clayton Perala, as Larry Murphy, brought emotional restraint and realism to the role, portraying a father trying to remain composed while quietly falling apart underneath the surface. His performances during “Requiem” and “To Break in a Glove” were especially strong.

Olivia Landsverk portrayed Alana Beck with both ambition and sincerity, showing how Alana’s relentless positivity masks her own loneliness and need for purpose. She shared several wonderful scenes with Josiah, and her vocals during “Good for You” and “You Will Be Found” were terrific.

Overall, this production of Dear Evan Hansen succeeds because it never loses sight of the humanity within its flawed characters. Rather than offering easy answers, it challenges the audience to wrestle with themes of loneliness, truth, forgiveness, and the universal desire to belong. It was a moving and memorable evening of theater that lingered long after the final curtain.
I truly hope everyone gets the chance to experience this production.

May Pang's John Lennon 'Lost Weekend' Photos to Be Exhibited at Underbrush Gallery in Fargo

"The Lost Weekend - The Photography of May Pang" exhibition will provide fans a rare opportunity to see John Lennon in a new light, through the lens of someone who knew him intimately during one of the most creative periods of his life. Pang's photos will be on display and available to purchase for two days only. Few people knew John Lennon as intimately as May Pang. Pang was Lennon's lover during the infamous "Lost Weekend" which lasted 18 months during late 1973 through 1975. During this highly creative time for Lennon, Pang took candid photos of Lennon in a comfortable, relaxed environment. A collection of these private photographs will be on display and available for purchase at Underbrush Gallery,1450 25th Street South, Fargo, ND on Tuesday, June 9 & Wednesday, June 10. During the Lost Weekend, with May's help, Lennon had his most artistically and commercially productive period post-Beatles-with the albums "Mind Games", "Walls and Bridges", which included his only #1 Hit Single "Whatever Gets You Through the Night", "Rock and Roll" and collaborations with Rock legends Elton John, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, and Ringo among others. Also, on that album Pang can be heard on the song "#9 Dream" where she whispers John's name in the song. Another song on the album "Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)" was written about Pang.

Pang also encouraged Lennon to reconnect with his family and his friends, which ultimately led to a reunion with Paul McCartney and a memorable jam session between the two Beatles. Pang also arranged for Julian Lennon to visit his father for the first time in almost three years. One of Pang's photographs of Julian Lennon graces the cover of Julian's latest album entitled "Jude."

Lennon also went into the studio with friend Harry Nilsson during this time and produced his album "Pussy Cats." It was during this time that Pang stayed in a rented house in Santa Monica with Lennon and fellow partiers Ringo Starr, Keith Moon (The Who) and Harry Nilsson. Several photos from this time also appear in the exhibition. Other highlights of the exhibition include the only photograph that exists of John Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles as well as one of the last known photographs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together from March 29, 1974. Both photographs have never been available to the public until now.

Pang has also published three books on her times with Lennon including Loving John, John Lennon - The Lost Weekend and Instamatic Karma featuring photos from her private archives.

THE NOTEBOOK North American Tour Adds 26 Cities to 2026-27 Route

The North American Tour of THE NOTEBOOK hasannounced engagements for the 2026-27 season, adding 26 cites to the previously announced route, including stops in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, and Houston. The tour began performances on September 6, 2025, at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio, and has welcomed over 500,000 patrons to date.

Allie and Noah, two people from different worlds, share a lifetime of love despite the forces that threaten to pull them apart in a deeply moving portrait of the enduring power of love. Based on the book that has sold millions of copies worldwide and a film that is one of the highest-grossing romantic dramas of all-time, the musical adaptation of THE NOTEBOOK played Broadway at the Schoenfeld Theatre from March 2024 to December 2024 following a critically acclaimed world premiere engagement at Chicago Shakespeare Theater in the fall of 2022.

THE NOTEBOOK features music and lyrics by multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and a book by playwright Bekah Brunstetter (writer and producer on NBC's “This Is Us,” The Cake). The tool gives editors granular, real-time control over how their digital program renders as a downloadable or printable PDF - the format most often used in lobby printouts, accessibility packets, and press kits.

Until now, the StageMag-to-PDF path was a one-shot export: whatever fit, fit. The new editor turns the export into a configurable surface. Each section of a program including the cast list, song list, director's note, bios, advertisements, sponsor pages, articles, listings and more — can be individually told how to paginate. Editors choose between three strategies per section:

Flow: natural pagination, sections may split across pages.
Own page: start the section on a fresh page.
Fit one page: start fresh and scale the section to occupy the whole page.

A live preview pane re-renders the PDF on every change, so editors see the final printed result as they work rather than guessing and re-exporting.Beyond the strategy picker, the editor exposes a set of advanced controls familiar to anyone who has hand-tuned a long-form print document: hide-element selectors (drop sponsor strips or vestigial nav from the print version), forced page breaks before or after named elements, a draggable section-order list, custom header/footer/watermark text, and a custom-CSS escape hatch for theaters whose programs follow a house style.

The release also includes paper-level controls including US Letter or A4, portrait or landscape, three margin presets, three type scales, and a "booklet" mode that adds a binding gutter for stapled lobby printouts.

The PDF Editor is available now to all StageMag-enabled productions at no additional cost, under the Share PDF tab in the program editor. Existing programs render with sensible defaults; the new controls are opt-in and per-production.

RAGTIME Will Launch National Tour in Fall 2027

Lincoln Center Theater’s Broadway revival of Ragtime, directed by Kewsong Lee Artistic Director Lear deBessonet, announced today that it will launch a North American Tour in the fall of 2027. The tour will premiere at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre in Buffalo, New York, before continuing onto cities across the U.S. and Canada. Additional tour stops and casting will be announced at a later date.

Lincoln Center Theater’s limited engagement of Ragtime has been extended twice by popular demand with performances now through August 2, 2026. The production set a new box office record at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and was recently nominated foreight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Direction of a Musical (Lear deBessonet), as well as five Drama League Awards including Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Direction of a Musical (Lear deBessonet).

The tour of the Tony Award and Olivier Award-winning comedy will tech and launch at The Bushnell in Hartford, Connecticut, with performances beginning September 19, 2026. NEWSIES Unseats LES MISÉRABLES to Win BroadwayWorld's 2026 Ultimate Movie Musical Bracket

After six weeks of voting, BroadwayWorld readers have crowned Newsies the Ultimate Best Movie Musical in the 2026 edition of BroadwayWorld's Annual Bracket. The 1992 Disney film, directed by Kenny Ortega and featuring music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, defeated Les Misérables in the final round, ending the Tom Hooper-directed film's two-year winning streak.

In both 2024 and 2025, Les Misérables was voted as the Ultimate Best Musical of all time, making it the title to beat heading into this year's competition. Newsies, a perennial fan favorite that developed a devoted following after its theatrical release and has since been adapted for the Broadway stage, advanced through six rounds of head-to-head matchups before claiming the title.

Now in its third year, BroadwayWorld's Bracket invites readers to debate, defend, and ultimately crown the greatest movie musical of all time from a field selected by BroadwayWorld editors. Review: MARY POPPINS at Fargo Davies

Director Rebecca Saari and the cast and crew from Fargo Davies bring one of the most beloved stories of all time to life in Mary Poppins. This theatrical adaptation of the classic stories by P. L. Travers and the beloved Mary Poppins produced by Walt Disney premiered in London’s West End in 2004 before moving to Broadway in 2006. The show features music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, along with new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

From the moment Mary Poppins first takes flight, this production invites the audience to believe in magic. It’s a show that has long been a personal favorite of mine, so when Rebecca announced it, the anticipation was immediate. I’d love to tell everyone reading this to rush out and get tickets, but chances are, you’re already too late. If you do have a seat, consider yourself very fortunate.

Clara Kranz brings a poised, confident presence to Mary Poppins, balancing warmth with just the right touch of mystery. Ryder Ulmer’s Bert is charismatic and energetic, serving as both narrator and emotional anchor. He leads “Jolly Holiday” with an easy charm that draws the audience into the world, and his showmanship is on full display in “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” where he anchors the delightful chaos with confidence. Ulmer truly electrifies the stage in “Step in Time,” driving the number with infectious energy while working seamlessly with the chimney sweep ensemble. His connection with both Mary and the children feels genuine, making his performance a standout.

Clara Meline and Joey Alonzo, as Jane and Michael Banks, are the heart of the production. They open with “The Perfect Nanny,” setting the tone with clarity and personality, and continue to impress in “Practically Perfect” as they respond to Mary’s arrival with curiosity and delight. Their participation in “Jolly Holiday” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” demonstrates strong stage presence within large ensemble numbers, while “Playing the Game” allows them to explore more emotional nuance. Isaac Knudson delivers a layered portrayal of George Banks, grounding the production with emotional weight. Both performers maintain strong character choices throughout, adding texture and humor to the production.

Emme Matcha makes a memorable impression as Miss Andrew, commanding the stage in “Brimstone and Treacle” with intensity and presence. Her portrayal provides a sharp contrast to Mary Poppins, and she fully embraces the role’s imposing nature, creating a formidable and engaging antagonist.

Izzy Springer’s Bird Woman offers one of the production’s most poignant moments with “Feed the Birds.” Her performance is simple, heartfelt, and vocally moving, providing a quiet emotional centerpiece that lingers long after the song ends.

The ensemble as a whole deserves special recognition, particularly in the large-scale numbers like “Jolly Holiday,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and “Step in Time.” Their energy, precision, and commitment elevate each scene, creating a vibrant and immersive world. This is especially evident in the choreography by Amanda Perlenfein, which is both dynamic and storytelling-driven, giving each performer a clear role in the movement and ensuring that every number feels alive and purposeful.

Review: TOM, DICK AND HARRY at Harwood Prairie Playhouse

The Harwood Prairie Playhouse delivers a lively and often laugh-out-loud production of Tom, Dick and Harry, a classic British farce by Ray Cooney and Michael Cooney that demands precision, energy, and a willingness to fully embrace the absurd.

Under the direction of Ashley Fredricksen, the production leans confidently into the play’s strengths: speed, confusion, and the ever-escalating consequences of one small lie turning into many. The premise is simple, a couple hopes to adopt a child and must impress a visiting social worker, but the execution is anything but. By the time unexpected visitors, hidden secrets, and wildly conflicting stories collide, the stage becomes a whirlwind of misdirection and comic panic.

At the center of it all is David Lassig as Tom Kerwood, who also serves as the production’s technical director. Lassig anchors the show with a performance that understands the core rule of farce: play it seriously, no matter how ridiculous things become. His Tom begins as a man trying to hold everything together and gradually unravels into full-blown desperation, and that descent fuels much of the evening’s humor. This might be one of David's funniest roles yet.

Sara Ervin’s Linda provides a strong counterbalance, at least initially. Ervin captures Linda’s shift from composed and hopeful to increasingly entangled in the chaos, matching Lassig beat for beat as the couple’s carefully constructed façade crumbles. Their chemistry gives the audience something to hold onto amid the madness.

The real sparks, however, come from the titular brothers. Kyle Hagler’s Dick brings a sharp-edged unpredictability, injecting the story with complications that feel just plausible enough to keep the stakes high. In contrast, Jordan Franzen’s Harry operates on a delightfully off-kilter wavelength, delivering some of the production’s biggest laughs through sheer oddity and impeccable timing. Together, they create a one-two punch of chaos, one grounded in trouble, the other in absurdity.

The supporting cast keeps the momentum moving. Dawn Thompson’s Mrs. Potter, the ever-watchful social worker, serves as the production’s pressure valve, her growing suspicion mirroring the audience’s amusement as the situation spirals. Mickey Porter’s Constable Downs adds another layer of tension, while Kate Folkestad (Katerina) and Jacob Kalvoda (Boris) round out the ensemble with performances that lean into the heightened reality the script demands.

A standout among the supporting performances is Mark Seeba as Andreas, who fully embraces the play’s physical and situational comedy. Seeba’s portrayal leans into the character’s intoxicated unpredictability, most memorably in a scene involving drunken trumpet playing that borders on the absurd in the best possible way. This is one of the evening’s comedic highlights.

Farce is often described as theatrical clockwork, and that feels particularly apt here. Doors open and close with purpose, lines overlap, and the pacing, while occasionally teetering on the edge, largely maintains the forward momentum necessary for the comedy to land. When the timing clicks, the result is a cascade of laughs that builds steadily through the second act.

For local theatergoers, Tom, Dick and Harry is a reminder of what community theater does best: bringing people together for a shared experience that is immediate, energetic, and, in this case, consistently funny.

On April 23, 2026, acclaimed stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze will bring his “Big Dumb Eyes World Tour” to the Fargodome.

The tour features Bargatze, widely known for his clean, observational humor and successful Netflix specials, as the sole headliner. His comedic style—often centered on everyday life, family, and understated delivery—has made him one of the most popular touring comedians in the United States today. About Nate Bargatze

Nate Bargatze began his stand-up comedy career in 2002, initially training in Chicago at The Second City before shifting his focus to stand-up at Jim Rauth’s Comedy College. He performed regularly at Zanies Comedy Club in Chicago and Nashville before moving to New York City in 2004, where he performed at the Boston Comedy Club while working various jobs. His early television appearances included Live at Gotham (2008) and Late Night with Conan O’Brien (2008), and he performed at the Just for Laughs festival in 2008. He released his first Comedy Central special as part of Comedy Central Presents in 2011.

In 2012, Bargatze released his debut comedy album Yelled At By A Clown, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Comedy Charts. He appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (2013) and toured as part of the Clean Cut Comedy Tour. His first hour-long special, Full Time Magic, was released in 2015 and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Comedy Charts.

Bargatze’s breakthrough came with his appearance on the Netflix series The Standups (2017). He followed this with the Netflix special The Tennessee Kid (2019) and The Greatest Average American (2021), the latter earning a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. He also launched The Nateland Podcast in 2020. In 2023, his special Hello World was released on Amazon Prime Video and became the platform’s most-streamed original comedy special at the time.

He hosted Saturday Night Live in 2023 and 2024, and released the Netflix special Your Friend, Nate Bargatze (2024), which won the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. That same year, he became the highest-grossing comedian, with a record-breaking tour earning $82.2 million. In 2025, he hosted the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards and announced his first feature film, The Breadwinner (2026), which he co-wrote.

Video: KINKY BOOTS Tour First Look

Get a first look at the new non-equity North American Tour of Kinky Boots. Leading the tour is Omari Collins as Lola, Noah Silverman as Charlie Price, Sophia Gunter as Lauren, Jason Daniel Chacon as Don, Emma Dean as Nicola, and John Anker Bow as George. Dargan Cole, Felipe Cristancho-Rodríguez, Jonathan Blake Flemings, Peyton Gaida, Blaise Rossmann, and Scarlett D. Von’Du play the Angels.

The Kinky Boots tour also features Carlyn Barenholtz, Connor Buonaccorsi, Blake Du Bois, Brianna Clark, Jayna Glynn, Billy Goldstein, Brandin Jay, Robert Miller, Val Moranto, Dominic Pagliaro, Thomas Ed Purvis, Kyle Williamson, and Natalie Lilavois Yusty.

The North American tour of Kinky Boots opened on November 19, 2025, at the Clemens Center in Elmira, NY and continues its run across North America, making stops in cities including Boston, Hartford, Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, and Detroit. The North American Tour of Kinky Boots is produced by Crossroads Live North America. The tour’s creative team includes Direction Recreated by DB Bonds, Choreography Recreated by Rusty Mowery, Music Supervision by Will Van Dyke, and Casting by Murnane Casting. The tour production stage manager is Nate Coffey.

The Kinky Boots creative team includes Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book), Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Original Direction and Choreography), Tony and Grammy Award-winner Stephen Oremus (Arrangements and Orchestrations), Tony Award-winner David Rockwell (Scenic Design), Tony Award-winner Gregg Barnes (Costume Design), Tony Award-winner Kenneth Posner (Lighting Design), Tony Award-winner Gareth Owen (Sound Design), and Josh Marquette (Hair Design).

Northern Plains Indigenous Film Festival Returns to Fargo Theatre

The Northern Plains Indigenous Film Festival (NPIFF) will return to downtown Fargo this spring, bringing two days of Indigenous storytelling, cinema, and community programming to the historic Fargo Theatre. The festival highlights narrative features, documentaries, and short films from Indigenous creators across the Northern Plains, along with filmmaker Q&As and professional development conversations centered on storytelling traditions and industry sustainability.

The event is scheduled for April 17–18, 2026, with all screenings and programming taking place at the Fargo Theatre in Fargo, North Dakota. Organizers describe the festival as more than a series of screenings, positioning it as a community gathering where audiences can engage directly with filmmakers and explore how Indigenous storytelling continues to evolve across media and generations.

According to the official festival program, NPIFF is designed to bridge communities and creative voices, stating: “See narrative features, documentaries, and short films specifically selected for this inaugural festival.” The program also emphasizes audience interaction, noting that “every screening turns into a conversation (giving you the chance to talk directly to the creators).”

In addition to film screenings, attendees can expect filmmaker Q&As, industry-focused discussions, and networking opportunities that spotlight Indigenous perspectives in contemporary cinema. The festival aims to connect regional creators with broader audiences while celebrating evolving storytelling traditions rooted in the Northern Plains.
