BREAKDOWN
Ruan: Chinese. Male. Mid-late 50s. Ruan is a senior journalist, an editor. He tries his best to pursue justice at work and in the society. He is respectable, calm and normally good at bargaining. Ruan is Tricia’s husband, Johnny’s mentor. He is ‘the sun’ for everyone: the good boss, the good husband, and the good mentor… But he is a realist, so he has fear when he realizes that the oppression is beyond his imagination.
Tricia: Chinese. Female. Mid-late 30s. Tricia is a photographer who is passionate about her profession. She is stylish, elegant but emotionally detached sometimes. She married to Ruan when she was young and never figures out whether it is out of respect or romance. She is attracted to Johnny’s wit and wildness. Tricia has good insight and not fear of making quick decision.
Johnny: Chinese. Male. Early- mid 30s. Johnny is a journalist. He is Ruan’s apprentice, Tricia’s lover. Johnny is an idealist who hates being labeled as one. He is competent but also arrogant. He always acts like he does not know the boundary at work. Unfortunately he does not use such attitude in love, which causes him lots of pain and regret.
Karrie: Chinese. Female. Mid-late 20s. Karrie is pretty. She was once a problematic young girl but Johnny helped her. She once looked up to Johnny and crazy about him. Karrie had gone through many abandons and disappointments in her life. She was devastated by her toddler son’s death. Since then she has been re-educated and motivated by a secret organization, believing what she had learned from her misfortunes could help the others.
Yam: Chinese. Male. 30s. Yam is not a physically attractive man. But he is funny in his own unique way. Yam does not have a real job. He is a computer genius and a hunting lover. Yam is rather simple and direct when it comes to relationship. He treats Johnny as his best friend and is ready to do anything for him. If Yam hadn’t grown up with Johnny, Yam probably would have used his talent on bigger crime. He is desperate to get a girlfriend.
