Breakdown

Seeking:
Actors for a season of 3 original productions. Some parts will be cross-cast and those actors will be performing in 2 plays. Some actors will perform twice a week, some four performances a week.

Season runs July 3 - September 14. First rehearsals June 20, staggered start dates for each production.

MIRACLE ON SOUTH DIVISION STREET
Seeking:

Clara Nowak
Female, age 60-75, Any ethnicity. Born in Poland but brought to the USA as an infant, the family matriarch, lives (present day) in an old rundown house in the "Hydraulics" section of Buffalo, NY; urban blight has settled in, and this particular dwelling sits behind a neighborhood soup kitchen which used to be a barber shop; there is a charmingly naive Old World peasant air about her.

Jimmy Nowak
Male, ages 35-50, Any ethnicity. Clara's son, the baby, unmarried, a blue-collar, knock-around kind of guy, a garbage man with a secret of his own who loves to tweak his two older sisters, not a dumb guy at all, just not college material.

Beverly Nowak
Female, ages 35-50, Any ethnicity. Clara's eldest daughter, unmarried, stereotypical bowling-mad character, frumpy, stirs up the (family) pot.

Ruth Nowak
Female, ages 35-50, Any ethnicity. Clara's middle child, unmarried, an aspiring actress, gangly, awkward, and not the type men throw themselves at, but she has an appealing positive energy, a little classier than her brother and sister, but not by much, wants to turn the family story into a work of art on stage.

FAMILY FURNITURE
seeking:

Russell
Male, ages 50-60, Any ethnicity. Happily married (or would seem to be), an elegant, well-educated man, adores his wife, his family, and life in general, is proud of his business friends and accomplishments, and lives by what he considers to be respectable and traditional rules.

Claire
Female, ages 45-55, Any ethnicity. Attractive, conventionally educated, civic minded, and a natural leader, has inherited a certain amount of money of her own, now desperately in love with a neighbor in their summer community, and is trying to reconcile this secret love affair with her longtime commitments to her family and friends.

Nick:
Male, ages 20-30, Any ethnicity. Son of Russell and Claire, a sophomore or junior at Williams College, responsible, hard-working, proud of his accomplishments and of Betsy, his recently acquired girlfriend, desperately torn by his growing discovery that his mother is having a love affair which could threaten the pride of his father and the stability of his family.

Peggy:
Female, ages 20-30, Any ethnicity. Daughter of Russell and Claire, older sister of Nick, a senior at Vassar, has become involved with a young man from the local Italian community who adores her, well read, responsible, and a dutiful daughter.

Betsy:
Female, ages 20-30, Any ethnicity. A junior at Bennington College, sees herself and her Jewish parents to some degree as outsiders in the summer community they have recently bought into, proud of her family’s liberal politics and of the long-tested Jewish traditions that come with them, she hopes to be both an educated, liberated woman, but also a moral and responsible one.

THE VANDAL
seeking:

Woman:
Female, ages 40-55. Any ethnicity. A lonely, sensitive woman whose husband has just died of a long illness. Wry and funny with a sad undercurrent to her interactions with others, she is looking for redemption and a purpose in her life.

Boy:
Male ages 17-25, Any ethnicity. A high school senior, creative, funny, talkative and a good storyteller. He is a good son, attached to his father, but independent and philosophical. He is compelling and smart with a witty, edgy sense of humor.

Man:
Male ages 45-60. Any ethnicity. Owns a liquor store. His wife and son have both died. He lives a life of comfortable monotony. Looking for companionship and redemption in a life without purpose. Funny, compassionate and somewhat crusty in his interpersonal style.
