BERNARDO
A proud, strong and handsome young Puerto Rican man (to play early-twenties.) Leader of The Sharks, Bernardo fights for a place for his family and friends. Bernardo is a protective guardian to his younger sister Maria and a passionate lover to his girlfriend Anita. Limited solo singing - range: Bb2 - Eb4. Strong dancer.

CHINO
A loyal and respectful young Puerto Rican man; Bernardo’s second in charge and Maria’s betrothed (to play late teens/early-twenties). Actor could have a more cross-cultural look, implied by his nickname. Strong dancer.

TONY
A child of the street and the former leader of The Jets, Tony now works as a grocery clerk in hopes for a brighter future (to play early-twenties). In spite of a tough upbringing, Tony holds onto a sense of optimism as he searches for something more from life. He finds it in Maria. Strong tenor voice - range: Bb2 - Bb4.

RIFF
