Breakdown

Why is Sonya so hesitant to introduce her new husband Michael to the people in her building? Why does the doorman keep calling her about a package in the lobby? Tempers and misunderstanding flare and mayhem ensues as the arrival of Michael’s mother, some nosey neighbors, and Sonya’s best friend Sam force Michael and Sonya to re-evaluate their relationship and decide whether all is fair in love and real estate in the world premiere of this new farce.

SONYA: Female, Indian American, Early-30s to Early-40s, Actress, slightly neurotic New Yorker. Recently married to Michael. She has worked hard to get what she wants and may not be as amenable to changing the life she has created for herself.

MICHAEL: Male, Chinese American, 30s, Writer, more laid back Brooklyn type, a bit of a mama's boy. Recently married to Sonya. Sexy, but in a not-so-obvious way, perhaps a bit nerdy.

SAM: Male, African American or Latin American, Mid-20s to late-30s, a Fa-Bu-Lous gay man who enjoys getting involved in the intrigues of others. A true friend of Sonya's who understands when to break out tough love or a Twix. (Also voices role of FELIPE)

FELIPE: Male, Latin or Filipino, Off-stage Voice. The doorman of Sonya's co-op. Uncertain off-stage voice of conformity under the thumb of co-op President Wendee. Please prepare with and without accent.

DR. LEE: Female, Chinese, Mid-50s to Early-60s, severe Asian mother determined never to have another woman take her place in her son Michael

WENDEE: Female, Caucasian, 40s, a New Yorker who exerts what little control she has by ruling over the co-op with an iron fist. She is nosey, bossy, and a bit self-conscious. She is concerned about, yet unable to handle discussing, her teenage son’s sexuality.
