Breakdown

Based on the 1995 Academy Award-Winning short film of the same name, TREVOR is the powerful coming of age story about love and becoming who you are. The story follows a 12 year old Trevor who's fantastic imagination guides his turbulent and humorous self discovery in 1981. The short film prompted the creation of The Trevor Project, the nation's first and premier suicide prevention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING

TREVOR
12-14 yrs. old. Our young hero, TREVOR is an unabashed enthusiast of music, theater, dance and last, but certainly not least: Diana Ross. Despite the feminine labels that his peers eventually (and mockingly) assign to him, TREVOR’s actions/mannerisms are less “girly” than they are distinct, unique and unable to be to be categorized into what his classmates consider to be normal. Bright and imaginative; naive and impressionable; TREVOR oozes heart and soul.. (Principal) Tenor: C below middle C to A above middle C

WALTER
12-14 yrs. old. Trevor’s neighbor and longtime childhood friend. WALTER wears big, chunky glasses and his wardrobe is (obviously) comprised of ill-fitting (sometimes too tight, sometimes too loose) hand-me-downs. WALTER would be equally at home as part of a science fair or a spirited game of Dungeons & Dragons. (Principal) Tenor: C below middle C to A above middle C

PINKY FARADAY
12-14 yrs.old. One of the coolest guys at Trevor’s Junior High – tall, athletic, handsome (the jock heartthrob of the 8th grade). In spite of this, PINKY still has an air of innocent obliviousness about him. He is authentic and empathetic, though not to the detriment of his hard-earned reputation. (Principal) Tenor: C below middle C to A above middle C

DIANA ROSS
20s-30s. DIANA is ethereal, beautiful and strong. She is TREVOR’s personal vision of the pop diva as well as a manifestation of TREVOR’s inner-self and spirit; DIANA can appear and evaporate in an instant. (Principal) Soprano: A below middle C to second G above middle C

JACK
16-18 yrs.old. A young candy striper at the local hospital, JACK is a kindred spirit to TREVOR. Empathetic, encouraging and intelligent, it is obvious to us that JACK views his volunteer position as a vocation, not a chore. (Principal) Bari-Tenor: Second A below middle C to G above middle C

CATHY
12-14 yrs. old. Trevor’s friend at school. Awkward with braces and a mane of out-of-control hair, CATHY is in that painful stage in which she is just beginning to care about her perception and appearance but, still void of social savvy, subtlety and fashion sense, this only makes matters worse. (Principal) Soprano: A below middle C to second G above middle C
