Breakdown
SEEKING:
SCARECROW: (Bluesy, tenor) Strong actor/dancer with great physical agility. Tumbling a plus! The scarecrow must have comic timing yet be able to connect with depth of emotion. His character ranges from crazy and spirited to a profound and sensitive thinker.
TINMAN: (Baritone) Versatile character actor who sings and dances well. Must have strong tap skills. He is in search of a heart, but his introspective journey leads him to the knowledge that he’s had one all along.
LION: (Baritone) Strong actor/singer/dancer. He is desperate to find courage and become the “king of the jungle.” He has a beautiful soul who masks his cowardly effeminate nature with false bravado.
AUNT EM / GLINDA: (Alto – Low Soprano, bluesy) Actor will double these contrasting characters. Aunt Em is a strong-willed matriarch who is protective of Dorothy. Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the South, is a glamorous and gracious spirit with “star” appeal. Both roles require strong voice and depth of acting. Glinda may fly (so no fear of heights and must have core body strength).
THE WIZ: (Tenor, pop style) Strong actor/singer/dancer with comic timing and wide range of emotions. He is a poser, charlatan, magician and showman whose is covering up major shortcomings to a mass of people who worship him.
ADDAPERLE: (Mezzo soprano) A kooky, larger-than-life comic actor/singer who moves well. Somewhat clumsy and always sassy, she is the self-proclaimed “Feelgood Girl.”
EVILLENE: (Alto, bluesy) The horrid, larger-than-life, smelly Wicked Witch of the West. This villainous role must be charismatic in her awfulness and have great comedic timing. Strong belt singer who moves really well. No fear of heights.
The ENSEMBLE will be comprised of triple-threat dancer/singer/actors who may play multiple support roles, and sometimes serve as puppeteers. Actors with puppeteer experience is a plus!
