Breakdown

This is a story about a boy who dreamed of reaching the stars. He was from a family of farmworkers; people who harvest the crops we eat, who toil under the hot sun for long hours. And although they were paid very little, his family was rich... with love and dreams. Loosely based on the true story of a NASA astronaut, this is one family’s story of determination and destiny and a boy who set out to achieve the impossible.

Roles Available*: NOTE: Play requires bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking actors.

Actor #1 (Male, Latino): José “Pepito” Hernández, a boy of 10. Playful, imaginative and bright. This Character is portrayed by an adult actor.

Actor #2 (Male, Latino): Salvador (Pepito’s father), Teacher #2, and Voice.

Actor #3 (Female, Asian): Leti (Pepito’s older sister), Farmworker #1, Mrs. Young (Pepito’s teacher)

Actor #4 (Female, Latina): Julia (Pepito’s mother), Farmworker #2, Teacher #1.

*Please note that THE ASTONAUT FARMWORKER will be produced under an Equity TYA Tier 1 Actor/ASM contract. All actors who are cast will be responsible for load in and load out.
