PREPARATION

Your audition should total no more than 3 minutes. This audition can include any of the following options: 1) 32 bars of a song; 2) One 2 minute monologue; 3) 16 bars of a song AND a 1 minute monologue.

PLEASE NOTE: Scenes and songs from this year’s productions are available on our website as an alternative to using your own material. If this is your first time auditioning with us, we encourage you to audition with your own material.

If singing, bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided (both days), but will not transpose. Please do not sing A Cappella. A reader is provided to read sides.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment, and bring a full size headshot & resume, stapled back-to-back. We will not be able to print material for you on site.

MINT JULEP (20s) – CAST: a saucy young man, son of Fountain Carter

FOUNTAIN “FB” CARTER (60s) – CAST: A noble/tough old man

HENRY CARTER (20s) – CAST: a slave belonging to Fountain Carter

MARY ALICE MCPHAIL (30s) – CAST: older sister to Mint Julep

CALLIE CARTER – CAST: slave and wife of Henry

GENERAL COX – CAST: Union General, tall, war weary, and exhausted

SOLDIER / SAMUELS / GENERAL HOOD – CAST: Soldier will need to play both Union and Rebels at various points / Union aide to General Cox, a stooge / Union General

ALBERT LOTZ / SOLDIER / COLONEL MOSCOE – CAST: German immigrant, middle-aged / Soldier will need to play both Union and Rebels at various points / a confederate recruiting officer

ASLAN: Mid to Late Aged Male. The king of Narnia. Noble, brave, regal, and powerful, but with an underlying passion.

WHITE WITCH: Mid to Late Aged Female. The Villain. Cunningly sweet one moment, then strikingly wrathful the next.

PETER (Young Adult, Male): The oldest of the four children. A young man of integrity who has played the roll of parent from a young age and has a somewhat bossy persona.

SUSAN (Young Adult, Female): The second oldest of the four children. A compassionate young woman who has played the roll of parent from a young age and has a somewhat bossy persona.

MR. BEAVER (Mid to Late Age Adult, Male): A cranky pessimist with a good heart who helps the children in their journey.

MRS. BEAVER (Mid to Late Age Adult, Female): Plucky and boisterous who helps the children in their journey.

UNICORN (Young to Mid Age Adult, Male or Female): Spirited and naïve who helps the children.

CENTAUR (Young to Late Age Adult, Male or Female): Bold and brave who longs for Aslan’s victory of the White Witch.

MR. TUMNUS (Young to Mid Age Adult, Male): Quirky and nervous, the good-hearted faun gets mixed up in the wrong crowd.

FENRIS ULF (Young to Late Age Adult, Male): A wolf, head of the Witch’s secret police.

DWARF (Young to Late Age Adult, Male or Female): The crusty character serves as the witch’s main servant and underling.

FATHER CHRISTMAS (Mid to Late Age Adult, Male): A Santa-like character, though lacking many of the overt stereotypes, leaves a profound sense of hope and cheer.

ELF (Preteen to Young Adult, Male or Female): Father Christmas’ plucky assistant.

WHITE STAG (Preteen to Young Adult, Male or Female): The elusive Narnian creature everybody longs to catch for the good luck it brings.

ENSEMBLE: Aslan’s Followers, Forest Animals, Witch’s Army, Wood Nymphs.

The roles of Lucy and Edmund will be cast at a later date, and will be selected through our affiliate youth theatre, The Theatre Bug.

SISTER ALOYSIUS BEAUVIER (50s/60s, Caucasian): The head nun and principal of St. Nicholas School. She is stern and conservative, and becomes suspicious of inappropriate behavior between a popular priest and one of the students.

FATHER BRENDAN FLYNN (late 30s, Caucasian): The charismatic and personable pastor at St. Nicholas Catholic Church and School, he is well-liked by nearly all. He must fight to defend himself against accusations toward him which are not supported with fact.

SISTER JAMES (20s, Caucasian): A young and inexperienced teacher at St. Nicholas School, with a bit of sunshine in her heart. She wants the best for all students, and is unsure of the conflict between the nun and the priest.

MRS. MULLER (30/40s, African-American): The mother of St. Nicholas School’s first black student. She is fiercely protective of her son, but is wary of the path it took to get him there.

Rydell High Students

DANNY: The leader of the “Burger Place Boys”. Well built, good looking, with an air of cool, easy going charm. Strong and confident. (TENOR)

KENICKIE: Second-in-command of the “Burger Place Boys”. Tough looking, tattooed, surly, avoids any show of softness. Has an off-beat sense of humor. (TENOR)

DOODY: Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude toward the other guys. He Also plays guitar. (TENOR)

ROGER: The ‘anything for a laugh’ stocky type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. A clown who enjoys putting other people on. (TENOR)

SONNY: Italian looking with shiny black hair and dark oily skin. A braggart and wheeler-dealer who is a wannabe tough guy who thinks he’s a real lady killer. (BARITONE)

EUGENE: The class valedictorian. Physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high pitched voice. A nerdy apple polisher, smug and pompous but gullible. (TENOR)

JOHNNY CASINO: A ‘greaser’ student at Rydell who leads a rock’n’roll band and likes to think of himself as a real rock’n’roll idol. (TENOR)

SANDY: Danny’s love interest. Sweet, wholesome, naïve, cute, like Sandra Dee of the ‘Gidget’ movies. Must be able to play sassy and sultry after her transformation. (SOPRANO)

RIZZO: Leader of the “Pink Ladies”. She is tough, sarcastic and outspoken, but vulnerable during a pregnancy scare. Italian, with unconventional good looks. (ALTO)

FRENCHY: A dreamer. Good natured but a little dumb. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance – particularly her hair. She can’t wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. (ALTO)

MARTY: The ‘beauty’ of the Pink Ladies. Pretty, looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Tries to act sophisticated. (ALTO)

JAN: Energetic, bubbly, compulsive eater. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with the boys. (ALTO)

PATTY: Typical all American cheerleader. Attractive and athletic. Aggressive, sure of herself, given to burst of disconcerting enthusiasm. Catty, but in an all American girl sort of way. Can twirl a baton. (ALTO)

CHA-CHA: Kenickie’s blind date. Slovenly, loud mouthed and homely. Takes pride in being ‘the best dancer at St Bernadette’s’. (ALTO)

ENSEMBLE: Six men and six women, all very strong singers and dancers.


Adults

MRS. LYNCH: Older Adult. An old maid English teacher.

VINCE FOUNTAINE: Adult. A typical ‘teen audience’ radio disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast-talking. A veteran ‘greaser’.

TEEN ANGEL: Older Adult. Good looking, falsetto voiced crooner. A singer who would have caused the girls to scream and riot back in 1958. (TENOR)
