BREAKDOWN

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET
By Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux
Dir: Keith Andrews
1st reh – June 5
Opening – June 20
Closing – July 1

Million Dollar Quartet is the musical inspired by the true story of the recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins at Sun Records Studio in Memphis. Based around that historical event, Million Dollar Quartet recounts how the legends ended up in the same room at Sun Records in Memphis for one of the most memorable nights in music. It brings to light the story of broken promises, secrets, and the once-in-a-lifetime celebration of four friends that is both poignant and heartwarming. Featuring a score of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits.

ELVIS
(20s): actor/singer/guitar player to portray Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; should sound and look somewhat like Elvis without being an “impersonator.” For the auditions, actors are asked to prepare an Elvis Presley song (or a song in that style or from the era) and accompany themselves on the guitar. In the production Elvis sings “Memories Are Made Of This,” “That’s All Right,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Peace In The Valley,” “Party,” and “Hound Dog.”

JERRY LEE LEWIS
(20s): actor/singer/pianist; he was rock & roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” Must be a superb piano player, able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis; fun, energetic; comic skills a plus. For the auditions, actors are asked to prepare a Jerry Lee Lewis song (or song in that style or from the era) and accompany themselves on the piano. In the production, Jerry Lee Lewis sings: “Real Wild Child,” “Great Balls Of Fire,” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.”

CARL PERKINS
(20s): actor/singer/guitar player (lead guitar); he was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song “Blue Suede Shoes”; Must be an excellent lead guitarist. For the auditions, actors are asked to prepare a Carl Perkins or Elvis Presley song (or song in that style from that era) and accompany themselves on the guitar. In the production, Carl Perkins sings: “Matchbox,” “Who Do You Love?,” “My Babe,” and “See You Later, Alligator.”

JOHNNY CASH
(20s): actor/singer/guitar player to portray Johnny Cash at the dawn of his epic career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; should sound and look somewhat like Johnny without being an “impersonator.” For the auditions, actors are asked to prepare a Johnny Cash song (or song in that style from that era) and accompany themselves on the guitar. In the production, Johnny Cash sings: “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Sixteen Tons,” “I Walk The Line,” and “Riders In The Sky.”

SAM PHILLIPS
(25 – 40): “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” and founder of Sun Records. Sam Phillips discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a charismatic figure in American music.

DYANNE
(20s): She was an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend; attractive; great singer with a wide range; sings solos and back-up throughout the show; sings “Fever” in her alto range and covers the high soprano part of “Riders In The Sky” (Johnny Cash song). For the auditions, actors are asked to prepare a song from the era; in the production, Dyanne sings “Fever” and “I Hear You Knockin’.”

MURDER FOR TWO
Book & Music by Joe Kinosian
Book & Lyrics by Kellen Blair
Dir: Jeremy Scott Lapp
1st reh – July 12
Opening – July 19
Closing – July 29

Synopsis: A fateful night. A surprise party. A great American novelist is killed…fatally. A small town policeman with dreams of making detective jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills and find the killer before the real detective arrives! Murder for Two is a perfect blend of music, mayhem, and murder with a twist - one actor investigates the crime, the other plays (all) the suspects, and did we mention, they both play piano?! A witty and winking homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries.

ACTOR 1/OFFICER MARCUS MOSKOWITZ
(25 – 39): an ambitious young officer investigates the crime and also provides voices for two characters in flashback: The Chief, Marcus’ grizzled boss, and Vanessa, Marcus’ former partner.

ACTOR 2/THE SUSPECTS
(25 – 39): a sharp and versatile performer able to transform from role to role on a dime, a vivid, believable and extraordinarily chameleon-like actor-musician; full list of characters listed below.

PLEASE NOTE: The show requires both actors to play piano - to accompany themselves and each other in performance. Although an accompanist will be present at audition please be prepared to play the piano as both actors must be very strong pianists
