Breakdown

STEVE by Mark Gerrard
As Steven, a failed Broadway chorus boy turned stay-at-home dad, celebrates yet another birthday, he finds himself filled with fear and uncertainty. Is Stephen, his partner of 14 years, cheating on him? Why is one of his best friends dying of cancer? And what, exactly, has he done with his life? A sad and funny portrait of a group of longtime, theater-loving friends as they navigate the many facets of midlife and mortality, Mark Gerrard’s Steve is a biting and bittersweet comedy about relationships and the unavoidable consequences of aging and the passage of time.

Seeking:

STEVEN
40s to mid-50s - a failed Broadway chorus boy/waiter turned stay-at-home dad. A conscientious and devoted father, partner and friend, he's also a handful - emotionally needy, a bit hysterical, always ready to argue. In a growing panic about losing his friend Carrie to cancer and his partner Stephen to infidelity.

CARRIE
mid-30s to mid-50s - a former singer/performer/waitress, now a blogger. Rather recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Longtime close friend of Steven, from shared theater/restaurant work. Single after recent break-up with girlfriend. Ironic, sharp-witted, warm and honest. Like Steven, beset with loneliness and despair, but better at coping/hiding it.

ESTEBAN
mid-20s to mid-30s - from Argentina, in NYC studying dance. Gay, attractive but not hunky, flirtatious and sweet. Graceful, sincere and good-humored, he's serious about his work, be it dance, waitering or volunteering, but wears it lightly. Attracted to Steven. Has a slight Argentinian accent.

The following roles have been cast. Actors may be considered for possible future replacement if necessary

STEPHEN
40s to mid-50s - A lawyer. Steven's partner of 14 years, and co-parent. The solid one in the relationship, good at tending to Steven and keeping his own needs in check. ROLE CAST.

MATT
40s to mid-50s - a former singer/waiter, now holding down a real job. Longtime friends with Steven and Carrie, and long partnered with Franklin, but with an open relationship. Having his own form of less dramatic mid-life crisis: bringing a young trainer into their house, as a third in the bedroom. Works out. ROLE CAST.

FRANKLIN
40s to mid-50s - Matt's longtime partner. The life of the party. Sexually open and enthusiastic. ROLE CAST.
