SEEKING

Ten strong actor singers (8 men / 2 women). All characters in this production's chorus will be played by men. See breakdown for more details


PREPARATION

Please prepare 16 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but may not transpose. Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

BREAKDOWN

PASSION

1st Rehearsal: 9/26. Run: 10/27-11/27 (Rehearsals are weekday evenings, and weekends)

GIORGIO: Man, late 20s. Handsome soldier. Shattered and ultimately changed by his unconditional and obsessive love of Fosca. His reputation for heroics precedes him. Strong baritone/tenor.

COLONEL RICCI: Man, 40s–50s. The regiment’s commanding officer. A rather taut gentleman who carries the weight of his position with authority and ease. Baritone/tenor, up to a top G.

DOCTOR TAMBOURRI / THE FATHER: Male, 50s–60s. Doctor: The regiment's attending physician. Somewhat aloof and distinguished older officer. Father: Fosca’s father, in flashback. Baritone, up to a top F.

FOSCA: Woman, 30s–40s. The Colonel’s chronically ill cousin. Intense, complex, deeply intelligent – often obsessed/fitful. Strong mezzo soprano. (ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)

CLARA: Woman, 30s. Beautiful. A married woman having an affair with Giorgio. Rhapsodically in love with Giorgio, yet also melancholy given the confines of her situation. Strong Soprano.

Ensemble parts (all will be played by men) include:

LIEUTENANT TORASSO: Man, early 20s–30s. Often given to laughter and opera singing. Baritone, up to a top F.

SERGEANT LOMBARDI: Man, 30–50. A cook; inured to the soldiers’ jokes about the quality of the food he prepares. Baritone, up to a top F.

LIEUTENANT BARI / THE MOTHER: Male actor plays both characters, 30–50. Bari: Veterinarian with a love of gambling and not much else. Mother: Fosca’s mother, in flashback. Baritone, up to a top F.

MAJOR RIZZOLI / LUDOVIC: Male, 20s–40. Rizzoli: Sober, straight-arrow type. Ludovic: Fosca’s duplicitous husband, in flashback. Tenor, up to an A.

PRIVATE AUGENTI / THE MISTRESS: Male actor plays both characters, 20s–30s Augenti: Private in the army. Has a good sense of duty and cameraderie. Mistress: In flashback, the mistress to Count Ludovic, Fosca’s deceitful husband. Tenor, up to an A.
