BREAKDOWN

THE FANTASTICKS
Music by Harvey Schmidt, book and lyrics by Tom Jones
Director, Julia Whitworth

First rehearsal: June 27, 2017
Opening date: July 20, 2017
Closing date: July 30, 2017

Synopsis: The Fantasticks is classic simplicity: a boy is overly in love with a girl, and their parents are trying to keep them together by pulling them apart. Add to the mix a rakish (and unreliable) narrator, a crew of actors gone to seed, and a world of moonlight and magic. But when the magic turns sinister, can young love conquer all?

Seeking: Versatile actors who sing with good movement skills — not dancers, necessarily, but folks who will use and take space with authority and abandon: acrobats, suzuki/viewpoints folks, circus skills. Good sense of humor, inventiveness, smarts.

Roles:

EL GALLO – male, 35 to 50
The rakish, handsome, sophisticated gallant and narrator of the show. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, but reveals dark moments throughout. He is the orchestrator of the story, a manipulator, maybe even puppeteer. Although he is charming, he may be malevolent. Maybe a magician. Maybe a carney.
Vocal range top: G4
Vocal range bottom: Ab2

LUISA, THE GIRL – female, 18 to 25
A young romantic idealist who falls in love with Matt. She is inexperienced, but she has gumption. She craves authenticity and seeks a soulmate. Her world has been controlled by her father, but she seeks more.
Vocal range top: B5
Vocal range bottom: B3

MATT, THE BOY – male, 18 to 25
A young man who is searching for love and adventure. A bright guy, but naive and even foolish at times, approaching situations with a false bravado. His world has also been controlled by his father.
Vocal range top: G4Vocal range bottom: A2

NON-EQUITY ROLES
The Boy's Father (Hucklebee) – Male, 40-60

The Girl's Father (Bellomy) – Male, 40-60

The Actor (Henry) – Male, 40-60

The Man Who Dies (Mortimer) – Male, any age

The Mute – female, any age

HENRY IV, PARTS 1 & 2
William Shakespeare
Director, Meg Taintor

First rehearsal: July 25, 2017
Opening date: August 17, 2017
Closing date: August 27, 2017

Synopsis:
It’s been a year since Henry IV gained his throne, and the King is not having an easy time of it. Rebellion is brewing: his former allies have banded together with some of his worst enemies and are working against him. Not only that, but his heir, Hal, is happiest hanging out in taverns with petty thieves, drunkards, and the gloriously dissolute Falstaff.

A fast-paced adaptation of HENRY IV parts 1 & 2, this production features 7 actors playing more than thirty roles.

Seeking: Versatile actors with strong language skills, experience with Shakespeare, vocal and physical adaptability, and a healthy collaborative spirit. All actors will double into multiple roles. Comfort and experience with stage combat is a must, and all actors will sing. Actors must have a willingness to explore the unfamiliar and take risks. A great sense of play and a healthy sense of humor are essential!

Roles:

SIR JOHN FALSTAFF / NORTHUMBERLAND / ARCHIBALD, EARL OF DOUGLAS – Male, 35-55, a multi-character track;
Falstaff: an aging rogue. He is cheerfully amoral and constantly looking out for his own good – but also a friend, father-figure, and confidant of the young Prince. Northumberland: father to Hotspur and brother to Worcester. He was partly responsible for putting Henry IV on the throne and now questions the rightness of those actions. “The Douglas”: a Scottish warrior: proud, strong and one of the best fighters on the field.

HARRY PERCY (HOTSPUR) / LADY MORTIMER / JUSTICE SHALLOW / WARWICK – Female, 25-40, a multi-character track;
Hotspur: a young warrior from the North, praised, honored and respected. His family was largely responsible for putting Henry IV on the throne. He is deeply preoccupied with honor - with being given the respect he and his family deserve. Lady Mortimer: wife to the Earl of March – it is a love match, though they share no common language. (Entire role is in Welsh) Justice Shallow: a country squire. Genial and generous, though vain and not necessarily the brightest bulb. Warwick: a nobleman, ally and counselor to the King.

THOMAS PERCY, WORCESTER / NED POINS / WESTMORLAND / LADY PERCY: Female, 25-45, a multi-character track;
Worcester: a born politician, ambitious and cold, interested first and foremost in the fortunes of his family. Ned Poins: base-born, clever, tricky and roguish, a much-loved friend to Hal, almost a brother. Lady Percy: married to Hotspur and sister to Lord Mortimer. Lady Percy is a match for Hotspur in pride and verbal prowess, and is deeply concerned about his plans to return to war. Westmoreland: a military leader and trusted advisor to the King.

KING HENRY IV / BARDOLPH / OWEN GLENDOWER / CHIEF JUSTICE - Male, 40-60, a multi-character track;
King Henry: won the throne a year ago and has not slept easy since. He is just and pragmatic, and moves with an authority that he has earned. Bardolph: genial drinking companion to Falstaff. Glendower: a warlord and father. Speaks with a Welsh accent. The Chief Justice: the most powerful official of the law in England. Initially at odds with Hal, but becomes a trusted advisor.

PRINCE HAL / EDMUND MORTIMER / THOMAS VERNON / MOULDY – ALREADY CAST
