Breakdown

ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS by Richard Bean

Brighton, 1960s. Francis Henshall becomes employed by two men - Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster and Stanley Stubbers, a criminal. Francis tries desperately to prevent discovery of his dual employment by keeping the two men from meeting. However, it turns out that Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe in disguise, her twin brother Roscoe having been killed by her lover, who is none other than Stanley Stubbers. Mistaken identities, mishaps and hilarity are ever present in this English version of a classic Italian comedy.

Charlie ''Charlie the Duck'' Clench (50s) : Old school gangster. Smart suit, loves his family, don't cross him.

Pauline Clench (early 20s) : She doesn't understand much. Sweetly romantic.
Harry Dangle (40+) : Of Dangle, Berry and Bush. Charlie's solicitor, fond of speaking Latin.

Alan Dangle (20s) ; A preposterous, wannabe working class actor. Real name: Orlando

Dolly (30s) : A pneumatic book-keeper. Strong, independent, great with an audience.

Lloyd Boateng (40+) : Chef of the Cricketer's Arms, Jamaican, old friend of Charlie's from Parkhurst

Francis Henshall (late 20s-mid 30s) : ''One Man'' - strong comic, great improv and physical comedy skills, very funny.

Rachel Crabbe (mid 20s) : One of the Guvnors, disguised as her dead brother. Androgynous, menacing, hilarious.

Stanley Stubbers (late 20s) : The other Guvnor. Posh public school boy with a psychopathic streak.

Alfie (actual age 87) : waiter – needs a younger, physical performer who will be hugely aged up. Gets hit in the face a lot.

Gareth (40s) : Head Waiter – a supercilious waiter with a bad toupee.
