A.E.A. talent for roles in OKLAHOMA. 3 A.E.A. Guest Artist contracts available, expected to be cast from among these roles: Curly, Aunt Eller, Jud, Will Parker, Ali Hakim, Dream Curly

Preparation
Please bring picture/resume. Bring sheet music in the style of the show in the proper key, accompanist provided. No recorded music or a capella. Non-union please limit song to 1 minute. See breakdown for more details.

Breakdown

Performances to take place at the Kavli Theatre, Bank of America Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Thousand Oaks, CA. There is pay for all roles for ages 18 and up. All roles are available. DIVERSITY: All ethnic types encouraged for all roles. Older teens are encouraged to audition for age-appropriate principal, dancing and singing roles.

Children will be taught music from the show, no need for prepared music. NOTES: Anyone auditioning for DREAM CURLY, DREAM LAUREY, or DANCE ENSEMBLE should first attend a DANCE CALL.


OKLAHOMA! CHARACTER ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

CURLY McCLAIN – To play early 20s. Handsome, likeable cowboy. An idealist, full of hope for a future that includes Laurey. Legit full-bodied voice (Sustained F#).

LAUREY WILLIAMS – To play age 17-19. Lives on a farm with her Aunt Eller. Stubborn, yet sensitive, she is a dreamer who loves Curly, yet is unable to reveal this to him. Saucy yet legit light soprano (High F, possible high A)

AUNT ELLER - Age 45+. Strong pioneer woman. Her years have brought her an almost mystical connection with the land. Must move. Character alto (Low F).

ADO ANNIE – To play age 18-20. A young woman whose new-found attractiveness has left her both confused and uninhibited. Must move well – dance a plus. Comedic mezzo/alto (Sustained D, sings F)
WILL PARKER – To play early 20s. Cowboy who loves Ado Annie. A little slow on the uptake, he sees only what’s straight ahead of him. Strong dancing role – clogging a plus. Tenor or high baritone (Character, sustain high F)

JUD FRY - Age 30-40. Farmhand. His quiet and brooding surface hides an inner rage. Angry at the deal life has dealt him, he lashes out at those he dislikes. Ominous bass/baritone (C#)

ALI HAKIM - Age 30-50. Persian peddler who drifts from town to town, selling his wares and wooing the farmers’ daughters, always leaving before he gets caught. Comic role, non-singing.

GERTIE CUMMINGS - Age 18-24. Competes with Laurey for Curly’s attention. Has a rather distinctive laugh that both announces and defines her presence. A little of her goes a long way. Sings with ensemble.

ANDREW CARNES - Age 45+. Shotgun-toting protective father of Ado Annie. A farmer who would even let his daughter marry a peddler, as long as he comes up with the dowry. Tenor/high baritone (Sustained high F)

IKE SKIDMORE, CORD ELAM - Farmers, age 40+. Sing with ensemble.

DREAM LAUREY and DREAM CURLY- Dances for Laurey and Curly in the dream sequence. Also dance in ensemble. Strong classical dance training.

MALE and FEMALE DANCERS who sing, all ages and types, to portray cowboys, farmers, their gals, dance hall girls, etc. Strong ballet training a plus.

MALE and FEMALE SINGERS who move well, all ages and types, to portray farmers, cowboys, wives, etc. Legit style.

CHILDREN, Age 8 and up, to play offspring of farmers, etc. Must sing and move well. Dance training, including ballet, a plus. All children at audition will be taught a song from the show - no prepared song needed.
