SEEKING

Equity actors who are strong singers and musicians. All the characters in this play are based on real, iconic people, so actors auditioning for the four male leads should bear a strong physical resemblance to the artist in order to be considered.


PREPARATION

Actors should prepare a song of choice from the show for the role they are auditioning for; Jerry Lee must be able to accompany himself on piano; Elvis, Johnny, and Carl must accompany themselves on guitar. Accompanist provided for Dyanne. Those auditioning for Sam should prepare a side provided.

OTHER DATES

Rehearsals in Oklahoma City begin June 12th with performances beginning June 27th. The production will close at the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma on July 1st, and then transfer to Austin, Texas, with rehearsals beginning July 11th. Performances begin July 26th, and closes on September 4th, with shows Wednesdays through Sundays at 7:30pm and Saturday and Sundays at 2:30pm.

NOTE: Actors cast in this production will be separately contracted at both the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and ZACH Theatre.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

They came together to make music. And together they made history. Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins join forces for one night only on December 4, 1956 at Sun Records Studio in Memphis for the greatest jam-session ever. Relive this legendary night as you rock along to such classics as “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Great Balls of Fire.” There will surely be a Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” in the Topfer Theatre for this epic night of music from rock n’ roll’s greatest icons.

Elvis Presley: 20s; male; actor/singer/guitar player to portray Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; should sound and look somewhat like Elvis without being an “impersonator”.

Jerry Lee Lewis: 20s; male; actor/singer/pianist; he was rock & roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” Must be a superb piano player, able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis; fun, energetic; comic skills a plus.

Carl Perkins: mid 20s; male; actor/singer/guitar player (lead guitar); he was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song “Blue Suede Shoes”; Must be an excellent lead guitarist.

Johnny Cash: mid 20s; male; actor/singer/guitar player to portray Johnny Cash at the dawn of his epic career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; tall; should sound and look somewhat like Johnny without being an “impersonator”.

Sam Phillips: mid 30s; male; “Father of Rock’n’Roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a towering and charismatic figure in American music.

Dyanne: mid 20s; female; she was an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend; attractive; great singer with a wide range; sings solos and back-up throughout the show – sings “Fever” in her alto range and covers the high soprano part of “Riders In The Sky”.

Brother Jay: mid 20s; male; Carl Perkins’ brother; plays slap style on an upright bass.

NOTE: the role of “Fluke”, the drummer of the band, has been cast.
