BREAKDOWN

New York, 1907. The mysterious “Maestro” who runs the theatre at Coney Island announces a one-off concert by legendary Parisian soprano Christine Daaé. Her arrival in New York with husband Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny and son Gustave, and their subsequent meeting with the ‘Maestro’, bring the cataclysmic events of 10 years earlier at the Paris Opera crashing back into all of their lives.

PHANTOM:
Tenor with a comfortable and lovely high B flat. 30’s.

CHRISTINE:
Soprano to a high B flat. Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s. Now an opera diva, she is a womanly woman who makes heads turn when she walks into a room.

MEG:
Mezzo Soprano. A spunky voice with comfortable belt, mix, and head voice to F sharp. Must be able to belt with a lyrical ability when in balladic mode. Strong dancer. Mid 20s to Mid 30’s. Now a coarser character than she was 10 years ago, she must possess a blend of sexuality and vulnerability in equal measure. We are looking for a gothic, enchanting beauty rather than a stereotypical beauty.

RAOUL:
Tenor. Must be able to sing effortlessly to an A flat. Powerful voice required with an instinct for lyricism. 35 to 40 years old. Now a STOIC, functioning alcoholic with more than a glimmer of his previous self as an affluent and handsome aristocrat. A beauty on the turn. Must possess domineering gravitas and sexuality.

MADAME GIRY:
Contralto with a solid low F. Late 40s to early 50s. Strong willed mother of Meg and ballet mistress of Coney Island Theatre.

ALTERNATE CHRISTINE:
As above...?To play the role at certain performances.

GUSTAV:
10 year old boy soprano.
