BREAKDOWN
HEISENBERG: Produced on Broadway in 2016, starring Mary-Louise Parker & Denis Arndt (who will reprise their roles in the Mark Taper production), ‘Heisenberg’ is a darkly funny and moving study of a relationship between a 75-year-old, self-effacing Irish butcher who resides in London, and a feisty, almost psychotic 42 year-old woman from New Jersey whom he meets on a bench at a railway station. Their relationship develops in an unexpected fashion: she is forever changing the facts about her past life and he is forever trying to fathom them out. When they become sexually involved, a bond begins to evolve between them which takes them on a life changing adventure to Am erica, in search of the woman’s ex-partner.
GEORGIE BURNS *Understudy* Georgie is a 42 year old female - white, slim, attractive. She is a live wire, prone to vast exaggerations about her life and her experiences, but underneath is genuinely looking to be loved and accepted despite her insecurities. Her fascination with Alex makes us wonder if she is using him for her own ends, especially when she asks him for a substantial amount of money. But ultimately, her character begins to change when she learns to trust not only Alex but herself as well. NEW JERSEY ACCENT REQURIED.
ALEX PRIEST *Understudy* 75 years old (playing age).White, male. Originally from Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Alex resides in London, where he has run a butcher’s shop for many years. Gentle and unambitious, he has an emotional (and sexual) reawakening when he accidently befriends Georgie. The chance of adventure as he begins to share his time with her allows us to see a man who is still searching for something more, despite his seemingly contented existence. SLIGHT SOUTHERN IRISH ACCENT REQUIRED.
