Is love a science? Fresh from its world premiere and our Fourth Annual New Works Festival, Paradise explores matters of love, faith and culture. Two worlds collide as Yasmeen, an ambitious student at an inner city high school entreats her irascible science teacher, an ex-University professor with a mysterious past, to embark on a neurological study, which leads to questions and challenges that lie at the heart of our own identity, cultural expectations, and personal desires.

[YASMEEN] Female, late teens/early 20s, a precocious Yemeni-American student at an inner city Bronx high school who embarks on a scientific study with her teacher.

[GUY ROYSTON] Male, 30s-40s. Irascible, quick-witted, hard-edged but ultimately tender teacher. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

Jack and Leo give their greatest performance yet as “Maxine and Stephanie” in this laugh out loud comedy by the genius who brought us Moon Over Buffalo and The Game’s Afoot.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears; Will Julius Caesar, the formidable hero of the Roman Empire who now stands to inherit its crown, become a tyrant? In the face of this threat, a group of conspirators come to a shattering conclusion: Caesar must fall. Shakespeare's timeless parable on the corrupt nature of power will take on new life in this original, intimate, and poignant adaptation.

[ACTOR 1 (BRUTUS, ETC.)] Male, Late 20s through early 40s. Honorable and strong-willed. A true patriot who wants to do the right thing for Rome. A man beset by conflicting ideals of honor and rule.

Pulled into a conspiracy to murder Caesar by Cassius and his love of Rome.

[ACTOR 2 (CASSIUS, ETC.)] Male, 40s-50’s. Clever, manipulative, and noble. A man with ambition who fears and loathes Caesar. Manipulates Brutus into a plot to murder Caesar. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[ACTOR 3 (ANTONY, ETC.)] Male, 20s-30s. A handsome playboy. Smarter then he looks. Charming and compelling. A natural leader and someone people want to be around.

[ACTOR 4 (CAESAR)] Male, 30s-40s. Intelligent, perceptive, arrogant, charismatic and exuding authority. A leader of leaders. Potentially with visible frailty. Made first Emperor of Rome before he is murdered.

[ACTOR 5 (CASCA, ETC.)] Male, 40s. Quick-witted and sarcastic with a natural ironic understanding. One of the conspirators who helps to kill Caesar.

[ACTOR 6 (CINNA, OCTAVIUS, ETC.)] Male, 20s. Rash, youthful, charismatic. A natural leader but impetuous and quick to temper. Plays both a conspirator who kills Caesar and Octavius who eventually succeeds Caesar as Emperor.

[ACTOR 7 (LEPIDUS, ETC.)] Male, 30s-50s. A military commander, the weakest of a triumvirate of leaders (including Antony and Octavius). Somewhat petty and a little behind in the political machinations of Rome. Resentful and easily manipulated by greater men.

[ACTOR 8 (PORTIA, ETC.)] Female, Brutus’ wife. Strong-willed and honorable. In every way a match intellectually and willfully as Brutus.

[ACTOR 9 (CALPURNIA, ETC.)] Female, 20s-40s. Caesar’s wife. Plagued by dreams of her husband’s murder, she pleads with him to avoid the Senate on the day of his death. Strong-willed, devoted, and fearful, and a charismatic match for the first Emperor of Rome.

SCAPIN

Leandre is in love with Zerbinette and Octave is in love with Hyacinth but both of their fathers have other plans in mind. Hilarity ensues as the two young men look to the crafty servant Scapin to help them dupe their fathers into a grand scheme that will lead to a riotously happy ending for all. Starring Artistic Associate and Broadway veteran Jeffrey Binder, this funny French farce directed with a modern twist will leave you laughing all the way home.

[SCAPIN] Male, any age. A wily trickster who manipulates and confounds everyone else to bring the lovers together. Must have excellent comic timing and be a good physical comedian. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[ARGANTE] Male, 40s-60s. Father to Octave and Zerbinette. Dutifully-minded, easily manipulated father who has arranged marriage for Octave not knowing he is already married. Duped by Scapin into accepting Octave’s true love. Must have excellent comic skills.

[GERONTE] Male, 40s-60s. Father to Leandre. Quick tempered, miserly, and dangerous. Has chosen a husband for Hyacintha and is tricked by Scapin into allowing Octave to marry her. Must have comic timing and a dangerous edge.

[OCTAVE] Male, 20s. Recently married Hyacintha but learns his father has already chosen a wife for him to marry. Begs Scapin to help him. Earnest, handsome, and in despairing love. Also in desperate straits. A lover in love with love. Must have excellent comic timing.


[LEANDRE/SYLVESTRE] Male, 20s. Scapin’s master and in love with Silvestre. Passionate and hot tempered when crossed, Leandre’s passions swing wildly. Also plays Sylvestre, a worrying servant to Octave.

[HYACINTHA] Female, 20s. Daughter to the overbearing Geronte, Hyacintha is desperately in love with Octave and becomes embroiled in Scapin’s schemes to trick Geronte into blessing her secret marriage to Octave.

[ZEBINETTE] Female, 20s. Fiery and passionate love of Leandre. Unafraid to face off Geronte and also entangled in Scapin’s schemes. Must have excellent comic timing.

It’s been nearly 50 years since the notoriously reclusive Agnes Keller published her first and only book. In the wake of a life-changing event, Agnes’ small sanctuary is punctured by interruptions from a series of unwanted visitors. In this funny and touching world premiere production, straight from the Fourth Annual New Works Festival where it received raves from the Gulfshore Playhouse audience, Agnes must grapple with the inevitability of change, the tangled tethers of family, and the very big question: what does an artist owe the world?

[AGNES KELLER] Female, 50s-70s. Fiery, intelligent, reclusive. She is a shut-in author who is fighting the onset of dementia. Hurt and frightened underneath a tough exterior. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[RAMONA KELLER] Female, 50s-70s. Agnes’s sister. Empathetic and loving (and capable of some tough love), the soul of the relationship between the two sisters. Pleads with Agnes to take in her son, Jackson. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[JACKSON] Male, 40s, Agnes’ son. A recovering addict who is trying to put his life back together.

[KATELYN] Male, Early 20s, an ambitious, clever social media hotshot who is willing to manipulate the people around her to get what she wants.

[DARRYL WASSERMAN] Male, 30s/40s, a shark of a literary agent who has a personal and professional connection to Agnes.

THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP
