Rebecca Hershkowitz:

Female 30’s to early 40’s soaring legit mezzo soprano, top A flat A Russian Jewish immigrant, strong willed and very protective of her son, David

Saul:

Male, mid 30’s baritone to F, He is a passionate union organizer, with romantic interests in Rebecca Bella Cohen: Female 20’s, belt mix top belt note D, an immigrant who works in the sweat shop with Rebecca. A bit naïve and gullible

Nathan Hershkowitz:

Male Lyric Baritone, top note G Rebecca’s husband who is succeeding in assimilating in this New World, but loosing much of his heritage in the process.

Rachel:

Female 50’s -60 character woman with belt voice. Funny, lovable with a great sense of humor

Avram:

Male 50’s character actor top note F#, A widower, he is a good man who was a scholar, but now forced to work as a pushcart peddler.

David Hershkowitz:

Male age 10, voice unchanged, top note E, Young innocent and hungry for knowledge of this New World

Ben: Male late 20’s top note A flat full voice, with falsetto to Bb, Romantic interest in Bella, energetic and very anxious to make it in the New World

Hayley Serling

(folk-pop mezzo) - 20 - A feisty, anxious, cerebral and confused college student on the edge of her teenage years and true adulthood. She was very close to her mother, and has an energy that lives somewhere between the cool girl at the record shop, and the anxious girl who wants to be left alone.

Kevin Serling

(folk-pop baritenor) - 46 - A struggling alcoholic and former cop, someone who deals with his feelings by not dealing with them at all. He wants nothing more than to be there for his family, but forces solutions on his daughters instead of confronting the real issues after his wife passes away.

Justin Lartney

(soft-rock baritenor) - 20 - A stoner; always relaxed and going with the flow. Hayley’s best friend since childhood, he is always trying to make a joke to lighten the mood, often times, accidentally, at his own expense.

Sam Serling

(folk-pop mezzo) - 26 - A confident and guarded extrovert. She cares deeply for appearances, and is very much of the mindset that living life to the fullest should be her number one priority. Always putting on a show, often by lying.

Michelle Serling

(pop alto) - 38 - The fun loving and wistful core of the family, she manages to balance the emotional instability of all those around her with enormous nurturing. A great deal of Earthiness to her - she is a memory and has passed away as the story begins.

Cop/Bartender/TV Anchor

30. Actor who can wear many different hats and allow the road trip to occur theatrically by taking on several different characters along the way.

HARRY

Early to mid-30s. Baritone An atypical leading man with an old fashioned flair. Charming, self- deprecating, arrogant, playful, dark. Half young Robert Downey Jr., half young Woody Allen. Can turn on a dime. Very musical and a skilled piano player. A strong actor with a distinct singer-songwriter type voice

LOUISE

Soprano Mid-20s to 30. Goofy, brainy, funny, sharp. Able to be both character-y and leading lady-y. Vulnerable.

PAUL

30-ish. Baritone Sweet, playful, polite, and dryly funny. He buries his anger, but grows in strength and conviction throughout the show. Plays guitar. A strong actor with a singer songwriter type voice

Male 40-55 Lyric Baritone A Comic character actor. Plays all four of the Ghosts – J.P.Morgan, Harriet Beecher Stowe, P.T.Barnum, and Mark Twain.

BOB CRATCHIT

Male, Age 30-35, Bari-tenor. Younger character actor
