Breakdown

GIGI: Requires a clear and fresh lyric soprano, and also a strong mix throughout the mid-range. Does not require high belting. Most important is that the voice sounds fresh and clean, and has a wonderful ease to it. Needs to be 18, spunky and spirited.

GASTON: A classic legit young baritone with a rich and robust timbre. The sound should be warm and lush with a healthy vibrato. The title song should make us melt. 25, handsome and lots of charm.

HONORE: Although there is quite a bit of Rex Harrison style "sprechstimme", the role actually requires an excellent musician. "Paris is Paris Again", and "Im Glad I'm Not Young Anymore" are full-throated classic baritone songs that require a very skilled singer. Should be comfortable to an "F sharp". Very personable and wordly.

MAMITA: A mezzo soprano with the capacity to sing both lyrically and as a character actress. This requires both finesse and tenderness as well as power. The role emcompasses a rather large range. Some finesse and ability to sing tenderly ("I Remember It Well") would be ideal. Grandmother for GiGi, lovable, caring and nurturing - 60’s.

ALICIA: Mezzo soprano with a strong mid-range mix/belt. Should be extremely comfortable musically. Sister to Mamita, strong-willed, determination and bold teacher – 60’s.

LEANNE: Requires a strong mix throughout the range with power and brightness. Late 20’s. Beautiful girl with lots of style. A looker. A courtesan. Knows how to play the game.

DUFRESNE/Ensemble Man: Legit baritone with a large operatic sound. Requires a strong musician. Character actor.

5 Ensemble Men
6 Ensemble Women

The ensemble should consist of all shapes, sizes and ages to represent the city of Paris.
